I’m becoming a FNP to get ahead of patient’s chronic conditions so they don’t become worse. I love educating patients in laymen’s terms. Also for the advanced role, to know how to properly treat conditions and refer when necessary. The autonomy and ability to teach in the future are bonuses! Great video!
So I am considering becoming an acute care nurse practitioner. All of my experience is in acute care either in ED/ICU as a paramedic/RN. So what program did you choose and at what pace would you recommend? I am having to do DNP because that is where all of the colleges are going now. I want to get it done but at the same time I want to have the time to do well in my classes rather than feeling rushed or pressured.
Thank you for your advice. I am thinking of primary care adult because I really like it and I dont have any experience in the ER. I am trying to make the decision between NP and nurse educator. But it sounds like as an NP you can teach too. I am up in my age (50's) and that is why I am trying to make the best decision possible. Thank you.
I'm your 600th subscriber. I'm about to start the RN program in the fall and aiming to be a NP. I'm binge watching your videos now and really like the thought of doing travel NP along with my wife who will also be an RN (possibly NP) in the future too. Have you thought about doing that in the future if you end up getting married? Would you be able to bank more cash from housing/car allowances and such? Thanks in advance and keep those videos coming!
Thanks for the sub!! Really appreciate it! I have thought about that! It’s definitely a viable option. I have 2 friends (married) they both just do locums in Alaska. One works 6 months and the other comes along. And then they switch. It works for them! It would be a really cool dynamic if I could swing that one day!
Love your content. Starting fnp next fall but not sure if i want to be outpatient my whole future career. Are fnp’s able to specialize in acute care down the line? Like a certificate?
Great video. I want to become a practitioner because of the independence of the role. Yhe ability to know the disease process and the proper tx. I want to be able to teach at a university in my older age as well. In psychology though and thts why I will go for pmhnp. My education background is psychology. I love it.
As an NP, how do you set up your travel assignments? Do you use an app like nursefly? A specific company? Or do you set up contracts with hospitals directly? Thank you.
Hey I am not going to FNP school for the money but that is some serious bank you are talking, but I actually have never heard of NPs making that much, is that 200-300k mostly seen in Travel NP only or just emergency NP in general?
That is mostly travel NP. Definitely not an employed/full time NP. NPs tend to make more in the emergency setting in general, more along the lines of 120-150k a year. However, as a travel NP, you can make significantly more.
I have been a travel nurse before, planning to get my MS-FNP soon. I am curious...How does travel NP work ?? 12 weeks schedule? Can you do nine months travel NP and live oversea for three months? thanks
Hi thanks for watching. Travel NP is much different than travel RN. You can work several shifts to several months. It really just depends on the contract, nature of the job, and where the job is located/specialty area. It can vary widely with each position. Some jobs you can only stay a few weeks, and some you can commit to for several months.
So basically you can work how many days you want to work? Still having the same monthly income? I’m confused! Can you explain how the scheduling works?
Haha good questions. Yes- I work whenever I want, or chose not to work at all. Income is NOT the same each month. This is one of the challenges. You have to plan ahead if you become a travel NP. I work hard for a few months, and take a few months off. It makes it easier to have finances planned out, and when you work hard for a few months, put money back for when you’re off for a few months. I hope that makes sense 😁
@@DavidWarrenNP How long did it take for you to achieve that and how much time did you take after you RN before going back? sorry about all the questions currently doing accelerated nursing program!
I’m not formally trained as a emergency NP. I did a fellowship with an emergency medicine physician group as a new grad, and then took the AANP ENP exam.

Definitely a thing. Best hidden secret out there.
In NP school, weighing my options. Thanks for this.
Thanks for watching!
Do i need to take the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program to work as an ER NP?
Thank You Man

@@DavidWarrenNP Very cool. I'm really looking forward to doing that. I've been discussing it with my wife too, and she seems to like the idea also.
@vemtaz you got into the actual RN program?
@@francisfree5242 Yes I did. I actually finished my first year already

Improve our healthcare system, I enjoy school & challenge and will go on for DNP 🤓

I have both certifications- FNP and ACNP

What’s ur NP degree specialization?????
Hi! I am certified as a family nurse practitioner, adult acute care nurse practitioner, and emergency nurse practitioner.
