Hi ...I personally think that being overweight for a long time puts more pressure on the knees then Running does. To start with only slow jog can never cause harm to any joint .. if it's done after proper warm up. The hard surface of road can be compensated by the cushion in our Running shoes. If you are a Beginner just try to run your natural way just to get accustomed to Running.

Many mobile running apps are there, i use Runkeeper App. Since I run on same route, so I am aware of each km on that route and then for time watch can be used. Oresle I run with my mobile in hand.
Start gradually with run walk then after few weeks go in increasing your mileage. Also focus on strength training, drills, flexibility. Warm up & cool down is equally important. 👍
