I feel I'd like to point out that there's no competition here or with any of my covers. I appreciate all feedback and some of you have been immensely flattering (thank you) but the constant "she's better/ you're better" argument doesn't really serve anyone. I just don't approach music in that competitive way.
If I'm making a cover, it's always from a place of incredible love and respect for the artist and the song. It's kinda like cosplay where I'm sewing and fitting my own version of a well known costume but maybe changing some of the colours and the fabrics to make it my own because lets face it, I'm not Annie or Kate Bush or David Bowie or any other musical genius I've covered. I'm me so I might as well make it fit me. It's a tribute.
Those people are my Gods, I look up to them in awe and worship their incredible talent. You can't compete with Gods.

This cover has spoiled me. I heard this long before I heard the original, and now, no other version feels right. Your haunting rendition is just so gorgeous and fitting, filled with the longing and love of Dracula for his queen, it's just right.
I fully agree all other versions and covers sound like absolute garbage when comparing how she put this together and her voice just no competition 😂
I think what's interesting about this is that it evokes a different mood from the movie to Annie Lennox. Annie Lennox's version captures the gothic side of the story and the haunting dark desire Dracula has for Mina in movie. This version has more folky sound which brings out the fantasy and mysticism of Dracula and the vampire as a creature in mythology and the genuine love between Mina/Iilona and Dracula. Very beautifully sung.
Actually in the book it is Nina not Mina.

Ikr it feels so sultry yet so sad and haunting...
I love this version because it feels like the one that would play in the middle of the movie. Like this is what Mina would sing when she begins to remember her lost love. This feels like a present sort of passion. The Annie Lennox version is darker and sounds more like someone who has lost both their love and the hope of any returning. It's perfect for the ending of the story. That song plays for a Mina who remembers her love and knows she will live the rest of her life without him.

This does give a different perspective on vampires in general. This proves that they are not the way we humans them to be and the way we made them out to be.
A truly beautiful song from a most amazing & beautiful movie. Anything involving vampires is a winner all the way for me. & just seems that the darker the subject of the movie the more softer the music often seems to be. Love the simplicity of this song. Nothing exceptionally fancy about this song it just fits with the movie in some weird type of way I think? Kudos all the way around a most beautiful hauntingly pleasant surprise indeed.

Dracula is actually one of my favorite books. To me, its just a very tragic love story about a man who lost touch with his humanity but had enough of it to fall in love. Unfortunately, because he was deemed a monster he was unfit to love Maya and was killed.
Are we talking book or movie here?
There wasn't a weird Dracula/Mina romance in the book, and it's always felt very forced to me when they try to add one in movies. It detracts from both of their characters. The only scene they share in the book is very explicitly an allegory for sexual assault, and portraying that as love is downright disturbing.
Nina was her name in the book.
" A man who lost touch with his humanity but had enough to fall in love " This hits me incredibly hard, thank you for that. This is how I was when I met my girlfriend/wife. We became seperated because of my temper and issues but I changed and she is coming back into my life and I have let myself appreciate more in life again.
There is an eroticism and equally melancholy feel to this version. Absolutely adore it. I love the constant drum beat / heart beat

This song is absolutely gorgeous. I can't tell you how much I've listened to it. I find this version better than Annie Lennox's only because this for me sounds more sensual, sexual and romantic, which portrays the kind of love between these two characters, especially the way Karliene sings it. It just fits the love story of Mina & Dracula perfectly ❤️🔥

This is still my favourite of your covers, even after discovering your talent a few years back. And its not entirely because I have a love of vampire genre. It really is a moving love song and you undoubtedly made it your own. I find myself oftentimes listening to it before getting into the spirit of writing or imagining a romantic exchange in my book series (a work in progress), which happens to feature a few vamps of my own.
