    A correction, this will be actually our 4th season growing Boswellia species. So some of my plants are actually 4 years old.

    They grow very fast for you.
    They surely make fantastic bonsies.
    Interestingly you have Orchids of humid tropics and frankincense of deserts growing happily next to each other.

    Lovely trees, I love the featherly leaves, either the green ones or the blue ones, I find them very elegant trees.
    Too bad I do not have the climat for them or the space 😁

    • @toddstropicals
      @toddstropicals  6 лет назад

      Fernanda Nascimento It all depends on your zone, here in Florida zone 9b is their cut off for grounding them. But in pots some species do fine with outdoor for summer, and bring them in for winter months with high light and same as orchid temps.😀

    Loved your opening on this video! The Nanas are very pretty trees. Do they do anything with the flowers?

    • @toddstropicals
      @toddstropicals  6 лет назад +1

      Pat Sfreund I don't think they do much with flowers as in cut flower trade, I know in Oman they do set bee hives by the trees in bloom to make rather expensive honey. Most are too small. I plan to hand pollinate once mine bloom to produce seed to grow😀
      Flowers are beautiful though.

    Those trees must love the hot weather in Florida! You've grown them so well! When do you think they are ready to get the Frankensence?

    • @toddstropicals
      @toddstropicals  6 лет назад +1

      MaryG Orchids I get frankincense out of them now actually, but I don't tap them for it. But in actuality it will be another 5 years or so, but I still won't tap them for resin. And yeah they love the heat here, far more than I do....lol😀

    Wow this music is fantastic. Will you in the future plant any of the trees in the earth or you gonna leave them in pots for ever?

    My frankincense seedlings went to dormant after the 3rd node for 4 mths mayb because of the extreme hot weather here until 2 weeks ago i decided to give them some cal mag and they kinda took off and grew afew more nodes..

    • @toddstropicals
      @toddstropicals  6 лет назад

      Salihin Hasan Oh good, I find cal mag is excellent for boswellia. Thats why I always give it to them after repotting especially seedlings, but at low levels because it can burn them.

  • @YnseSchaap
    @YnseSchaap 6 лет назад +1

    Would a twist in the trunk force that blue form to branch out just like you do with roses ;-)

    • @toddstropicals
      @toddstropicals  6 лет назад +1

      Ynse Schaap I don't know if that'd work or not, everyone I know that grows says top them or prune them back and they'll branch..weird tree

    The Boswellia nana foliage is nice, I bet they would be a good bonsai tree. So, if you have frankincense, where is the myrrh?

    • @toddstropicals
      @toddstropicals  6 лет назад +1

      Michael McCarthy Actually yes B nana makes excellent bonsai, as do other Boswellia species. I don't use wire wrapping however, just clip & grow technique. The one that the bark exfoliates on definitely clip and grow...I have a few myrrh trees also, kinda gotta grow them too, I only have 3 species kua, shimperi, and habessinica.😀

    The seedlings are looking good at this point , looks like 4 months at this point ? compared to your last video with them.Boy those elongatas are expensive ! All great looking trees.

      Most frankincense trees are expensive, sometimes you can find good deals on them here and there. My ameero cost 400$

    Sad that all my almost 20 Boswellia sacra seedlings have died after 2 month, I dont khow how much water and direct sun they need after germination.

    • @toddstropicals
      @toddstropicals  6 лет назад

      Andrei S. Sorry to hear that! For water they need to nearly dry out and only water when the pot is light when you lift it up. For sunlight they need bright light but not full sun, young seedlings can't take those light levels and will burn. But they like hot temps thats one thing they can take but not full sun...good luck and keep trying.😀👍

    at what age can they start to be harvested?

    • @toddstropicals
      @toddstropicals  3 года назад

      I've heard ten years for a decent harvest but I don't grow them for that.

    what soil conditions do they need?

    • @toddstropicals
      @toddstropicals  3 года назад

      Well draining cactus/succulent type mix that's very coarse (lots of stones/rock.

  • @raphlvlogs271
    @raphlvlogs271 3 года назад +1

    why are they so threatened in the wild?

    • @toddstropicals
      @toddstropicals  3 года назад

      Over harvesting or bad harvesting practices that lead to disease mostly.
