I like to use the bead-it in the spry can for this it works perfectly and won't leak comes in gray , red, black ect.. Also the filter bolts have a torque spec so next try and include them as well . Great job 👍 Black beauty rides again !! P.s. I spray clear coat on all my lines , trans , brake , fuel ect.. it keeps them looking good and rust free for years to come .
Couple of good little tricks there Dan! They will come in handy in the future! I will be watching for the line removal and installation. Have a great day! 👍 👋 😎
Excellent video Dan! In my book, if you can get the bolt out, it's not completely rusted out. LOL TJ wrangler's rust out worse than the cherokee's. And, for those who don't want to loosen the trans pan, just jack up the front and put it on ramps to get the most fluid out.
Awesome video dude, just did a new filter and new kick-down(tv) cable. Made the mistake of putting the gasket on, but might pull the pan off one more time and use RTV instead like you described. If you run a transmission cooler, check out glow-shift tranny gauge. They even sell a single pod gauge mount for the drivers side pillar. From a fellow long islander, another great video!
Something I bought once and used multiple times, oil pan snap ups. Used on the oil pan and trans pan on my XJ, trans pan on my ZJ, and I think there was something else before they disappeared.
UFFDA ! My transmission shop service using Amsoil is a $585 estimate. That includes changing the complete gear train. After watching this video I am considering doing it myself. The trans lines to the cooler make me worry though.
I can't get the pan out. I don't have the leverage/space to really yank out the whole dipstick tube. I'm going to have to leave the old filter in and just refill the transmission fluid until I can figure out how to get the damn thing off.
@@ProjectDanH Went pyro with it and used a torch. It surprisingly came right off after about 10 minutes of straight heating. Melted my brand new torch in the process but I got it off, cleaned, painted and back on there. Sherman the Tank is running smoothly. Thanks for the directions!
@@ProjectDanH I was actually able to fix it. I removed the pan, and with a bit of leverage, was able to get the plug out. I retapped the threads in the pan and got a new plug :) I’m in Tasmania, so just getting another pan wasn’t really an option for me. XJs are pretty thin on the ground round here :/
I am about to start this job. I am a little worried on getting the right size O ring for the dip stick tube. Don't want it to leak after putting it back together. How tight was the top half of the dip stick when putting it back in to the bottom half. Thanks for any info
Vin numbers don't designate between XJ or ZJ. The digit placement however does, have other specific functions. If your jeep is an 89 then its an XJ www.morris4x4center.com/knowledge-center/vin-jeep-cherokee-xj-1984-2001/ www.morris4x4center.com/knowledge-center/vin-grand-cherokee-1993-1998/
I have heard conflicting info about changing tranny fluid, that it can blow up a trans due to the metal particles being removed. Have you had any trouble and what do you know about this rumor? Dig the videos man.
@@ProjectDanH Yea was just curious about the oil filter, And the pan too. Some guy on an old forum said 60 ft lbs, Then up to 80. . Let's just say I have 16 of the 19 pan bolts now. Dug through some shit and found. an old book for my jeep. Pan torque specs is 10 ft lbs, did 7 for the filter.
Two vids in 2 days after a month plus of being MIA. missed them! Glad to see you back man.
Thanks brother! Got a summer full of unedited footage to come.. More on the way!
Nice Video Dan. You have some of the “Best” Jeep Videos I’ve seen!
Thank you.. Thanks for watching brother!!
I have learned a lot from Dan and D&E.
Dan ,I like very much both videos. well done .thank you very much. wish you were my mechanic.
thank you brother, much appreciated!
You are sure having some nice weather up there.
😂😂😂 Slacking on my up loads!

I have been dreading this job. This video however has lifted some of my doubts. Great vid as always and glad you are back to posting.
Thanks John, Glad to shine a positive Jeep light 👍
Had the same issue with my dip stick tube. Heating works every time 👍🏻
Every time!
Couple of good little tricks there Dan! They will come in handy in the future! I will be watching for the line removal and installation. Have a great day! 👍 👋 😎
Coming soon JB! 👍
That was a dirty job but I new Dan could do it , can’t wait to see part two
Lol! Part 2 is the dirtiest

Rust is terrible! Great tips!!

This is on a 2000 cherokee sport btw****
Awesome brother! Thanks!!
I have a 94 xj and I was wondering what’s the benefit of using RTV rather than a gasket?
Something I bought once and used multiple times, oil pan snap ups. Used on the oil pan and trans pan on my XJ, trans pan on my ZJ, and I think there was something else before they disappeared.
They came with the oil pan gasket set, but not with the trans set I got
@@ProjectDanH They fit the trans pan bolt holes
Great vid! I recommend some good safety glasses though. Protect those baby blues! I learned my lesson after getting an eyeful of rust gunk.
totally! good eye protection is a must!
Nicely done Brother 👍👍
More to come!
Id like to see a video on the k suspension viper coil pack mod
hmmmm
Hello good video
Hey, thanks

Its completely doable. you got this!
Great video as always. The link to the tools don't work. That swivel had me in sudden need to replace all mine lol.
Hey Brandon, Sorry about the link. Try to contact Chris Watson at facebook.com/watsonsynthetics/
Nice vid. Love the jokes. 😂😂
Thanks Man!! Hope you watch em ell!
Chris watson ..is he at victory tools ?
Independent sales for motiv x tools, fumoto, and amsoil
When a transmission service starts with removing a headlight, I get confused 🤔
Hang in there pal, you'll be ok.
Do you not use a gasket or does the rtv do the trick??
I can't get the pan out. I don't have the leverage/space to really yank out the whole dipstick tube. I'm going to have to leave the old filter in and just refill the transmission fluid until I can figure out how to get the damn thing off.
oh man, its so annoying. hope you get it one day, god speed!

not bad for a yankees fan. Haha thanks for the video.
My transmission sump plug just spins and won’t undo. Anyone have any solutions?
Grab a new pan

Dry time, 1 hrs.
Before finishing touring...
Please
Thank you!

Pretty tight, you don't want crud to get in a sloppy dipstick tube.
For some insurance put a hose clamp on the tube to keep it tight
Where in the vin does it designate an xj or a zj on a 1989 jeep Cherokee Laredo
Vin numbers don't designate between XJ or ZJ. The digit placement however does, have other specific functions. If your jeep is an 89 then its an XJ

Why don't you use the transmission gasket
They're flimsy and don't adhere, they also leak. The factory uses RTV too
I have heard conflicting info about changing tranny fluid, that it can blow up a trans due to the metal particles being removed. Have you had any trouble and what do you know about this rumor? Dig the videos man.
Thanks man, I've heard the same rumor my self. This Jeep runs fine with fresh fluid free of debris. Your trans will appreciate clean fluid.
I love you in a way that a hetero man can love another over the same issues with their XJ
😂😂😂 hilarious.. God bless!
Lmfao smells like a foot 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Haha!
Man when are you gonna get yourself a lift?!
Its in the works!
torque specs homie
not much, prob under 20 ft lbs
