      I’ve got the Air 4 which is identical externally to the Air 5, from what I’ve seen Logitech latest revisions to the Combo Touch bring new features but do nothing to address the durability issues. Personally, I wouldn’t risk it.

      It’s 100$ cheaper and offers edge protection. Ngl still waiting on mine (combo touch) to arrive to try it out esp since I got it for almost 80$ off retail cause logi had a sale on at the time I ordered it but may just go the Magic Keyboard if it doesn’t feel good.

      Pretty much this, while $300 AUD for the Combo Touch is expensive, it’s still far cheaper than the $500 AUD Apple is asking for the Magic Keyboard.

    Totally agree. I cut out all the rubber, got a coverbuddy and aligned the pins (i think i posted it somewhere), it provided side protection and a way to still use the smart connector. It worked for a while but the keyboard loses functionality more often now. Had high hopes for this case as well. So disappointed

    • @salocin9009
      @salocin9009  Месяц назад +1

      I can’t speak for everyone but usually by 1 year you can begin to see the issue, it’ll be slight but noticeable. Then by 2 years it’ll progress to something like mine, I’d avoid the product altogether if possible.

  • @chriz7074
    @chriz7074 Месяц назад +1

    I also have the rubber issues, and it’s really doing my head in! It’s not aesthetically pleasing. They could’ve tried to have it attack with magnets without the rubber edges like the apple magic folio keyboard. I have the iPad Pro 12’9 from 2022, so I wouldn’t be able to buy the magic folio with the kickstand version. A kickstand case is my go to, as it’s so flexible and doesn’t take up much space on my desk.

    • @salocin9009
      @salocin9009  Месяц назад +1

      Yep it sucks, even worse is that they advertise the wrap around design as a feature that makes it more rugged. Rugged would be protecting the device and the case itself, this is kamikaze. At least now the market has matured to the point where there are other options.
      The Magic Folio Keyboard is beautiful but it wouldn’t work on iPad Air and Pro without a redesign due to the Smart Connector being in a different location. I’d love to see Apple’s take on a Smart Keyboard Folio Gen 2 with trackpad, something that doesn’t force me to remove the iPad from the keyboard to use on its own.

    Actually, almost all detachable keyboards I have used in the past have had the same problems. For example, I had to replace my MS Surface Alcantara keyboard twice in two years. My father used a Magic Keyboard, but the leather on the sides deteriorated after two years, and the three-pin connection had many issues. Learning from these experiences, I now buy a very cheap keyboard from Nillkin for just $63. The materials are not premium and feel cheap, but for the price, I can replace it every year without spending much money.
    Just buy a cheap detachable keyboard because there are no durable detachable keyboards out there.

      Man what a pain, not sure why companies can’t figure how to make something that lasts/aren’t willing to. I’ve considered getting an elcheapo keyboard case but I don’t know if I can go back to a crappy typing and trackpad experience. Maybe I’ll just get a nice case and a slim bluetooth keyboard 🤔

      I agree with your opinion that the device company doesn't want to make something durable. Perhaps, they don't want their laptop products to be overshadowed by tablets. Even cheap mechanical keyboard companies can make something durable and long-lasting.

    So I just ordered one of my new iPad Pro m4 13 inch and I am already 2nd guessing it. I hope they fixed the issue but I do like having the edge protection vs naked Magic Keyboard. It arrives on the 12th and I’ll probably return it without even opening it. I have looked into the esr keyboards but I don’t like that they run off Bluetooth and it’s another to keep charged. Is it worth keeping if I look at it as disposable I mean if it lasts 2 years that’s less than 10$ a month as I did get it on sale with a coupon so it only cost 210$ us with free shipping. Only time will tell if I keep it I’ll update Ty for an honest long term review.

    • @salocin9009
      @salocin9009  4 месяца назад +2

      Thanks for watching. One thing you can do is use it for a year and if you’re experiencing the issue then you can get it replaced for free usually, it’s only once you’re out of the limited warranty period that they refuse to help. As long as you’re happy with your choice that’s what matters, at the end of the day it is a good product, just not a well built one.
      There are some slim cases that work with the Magic Keyboard but that’s an extra expense. In terms of charging the keyboard for ESR I see it as a non issue as it’s only once a month and you’re getting longer battery life on the iPad as a result.
      Let me know what you end up going with.

    • @hobbes7839
      @hobbes7839 4 месяца назад

      @@salocin9009 yeah I ordered it the 3rd said would be here on 6th on “estimated shipping” so called today and tried to cancel it which I guessed forced them to ship it lol but I may just return it unopened. One thing I’m curious about I’ve seen other reviewers comment on but glance over is when closed the keyboard keys can leave smudges on the screen have you had any issues or concerns about your screen getting damaged by the keyboard? I don’t want to use a screen protector and diminish this beautiful dual oled display.

    • @salocin9009
      @salocin9009  4 месяца назад +1

      I personally haven’t experienced that, the keys are recessed so when closed they shouldn’t be pressing hard on the iPad screen if at all. For others, maybe smudges are coming from palm/finger oils and sweat left on the keyboard and palm rests that rub onto the iPad screen when shut. I wouldn’t be concerned about damage, just have a cloth handy or use a shirt if that’s happening.

    • @hobbes7839
      @hobbes7839 3 месяца назад +1

      Ok so it just came in today and so far I’m loving it. The case feels nice a lot more Magic Keyboardish it is a fingerprint magnet and although the kickstand feels a little stiff atm I’m sure it will loosen up over time. The keyboard feels nice and the trackpad is very responsive. As far as durability only time will tell but so far I like it and for almost 160$ less than Magic Keyboard very happy with it.

    idk why this got recced but good to know info.... esp I was also like you as well, where you think logitech has quality
    and i am also happy with my mx keys mini and my mx vertical-the wireless charging one, is coming into fourth year of use).
    I'm also pedantic regarding taking proper care of my stuff, so everything are like new, i also invest heavily into proper cleaning and care lol
    but i guess i am not buying this, ever
    well, tldr, i bought a goodoojoq one for my ipad pro 11 for only 89 aud (the latest version even has smart connector) its decent enough quality (though it has its own annoyances like sometimes typing halfway, the keyboard will dc and you gotta turn it off and on again and this happens quite often, and also a champ at attracting fingerprints!) but its cheap enough that i won't sweat it if it started fraying and whatnot.
    Also, before you buy ESR, just a note, they CAN fray easily.

      Haha good to know I’m not the only one who’s like that with my stuff, thanks for sharing. Like I said I’m sure they’ve got other good products but the Combo Touch ain’t one of them.
      ERS looks good but the lower price does make me wonder about quality, you mind dropping a link for the one you got? I haven’t seen anything outside of Apple and Logi that uses the smart connect, always Bluetooth which adds considerable bulk.

      Smart, if they’re not going to address a known issue or at least compensate their paying customers properly when their product fails, they don’t deserve your money. At least it’s not like it was 4-6 years ago and we have other third party alternatives, just a shame they squandered the advantage they had being the only ones allowed to use the Smart Connector.

  • @Mercury888

    oh crap. This is probably gonna happen on mine. The 10.5 inch ipad pro logitech combo touch was actually made of proper hard plastic. And it was thinner. Why couldn't they just have used the same hard plastic as the 10.5 inch ipad pro? This is the reason i bought it again for my m2 ipad pro. Now I am regretting it. Theres no other cases out there that you can detach the ipad to the kb and use it with the kickstand by itself. As most of the time im using the ipad by itself and without the kb.

    • @salocin9009
      @salocin9009  3 месяца назад

      Yeah it’s a shame cause Apple has abandoned the idea of a keyboard case that lets you use the iPad like an iPad. If only they’d make a next gen Smart Keyboard Folio, you can’t detach the keyboard but folding it around the back is good enough imo. If you experience issues within a year you should be able to get it replaced however since you’re coming from a 10.5” pro I’m guessing you want to hold onto your new one for a while.
      I think the best solution would be to allow the part of the Magic Keyboard that attaches to the back of the iPad to detach from the base.
