  • Toro timecutter zero turn not starting or won't start and clicking intermittently. How to replace starter solenoid and troubleshooting toro time cutter mx5000 zero turn start issue. Clicking and not starting but eventually starting. Clicking when trying to start mower doesn't always mean you need to replace starter solenoid. A mower not starting could be due to a loose wire, bad or dead battery, bad starter solenoid, bad starter, or even a motor problem. If you can test your battery start there first. A voltage check then test the battery with an actual tester. A battery can have the correct voltage and still be a bad battery. Testing the battery yourself or taking it to a Autozone or Walmart for testing could save you time and money. Hopefully this video will save you time and money in getting your mower back up and running. Thank you.

    Great video :)
I would like to make one small recommendation: replace the hardware on the battery cable connections with lock washers and regular nuts (I never have good luck with those wing nuts)

So far I haven’t had any issues but you’re not alone on this. A dislike of the manufacturer hardware was expressed on some videos I watched. I may be swapping it out soon. Thanks!

Just my 2 cents; Mine does similar.
I can hear the handle neutral click clicks.
turn key and a hard click click, after a few times it will start and run great 90 % of time.
It' got a good battery good connections.
I went under and adjusted the neutral locating arm.
This helped a cpl times then back to same ole.
I went down this morn and probed the 4 post solenoid Power from battery check. steering arms in neutral - both small post on solenoid grounded.
One is a ground the other comes form that darn neutral safety switch.
I'm gonna unplug the switch and see..

how many amps on the battery? Have you put it on a battery tester? Not just a volt reader but amps cranking power etc...

What battery should I buy for my toro 4553? Or how do I check what battery for my mower

There should be a sticker or plate somewhere on the mower with engine part number/serial number.

Where would you start if while cutting grass it suddenly dies and wont start or even turn over

If it’s not a fuel system problem, I’d look at air system. Sounds like ran out of gas though. “Ain’t got no gas in it?” Had this happened before? The next thing after that would be check connections. Like the one under seat that detects if rider is sitting. Other than the norms to all mowers like carburetor and filters there’s a lot of wiring and loose connection possibilities.

My toro clicked just like this. Replaced starter solenoid with the exact same one, which cost me a few more bucks. Also replaced the starter. Charged the battery. Everything hooked back up PROPERLY* (for the trolls)
    Clicks again.
Then the clicking stops... and the solenoid starts smoking. Instant fire. Pour beer over fire. Fires out. Solenoid fried. Starter fried. Wallet fried. Beer empty.
    Fuck toro

Holy sh*t…When I was looking into this whole clicking problem it was a troubleshooting rollercoaster. So this doesn’t surprise me too much. As for the battery, charging it is only one factor of the battery. In my case it was a simple matter of battery not putting out the correct amperage, charged or not. Which is why replacing the battery fixed the problem. Did you get another beer?

These toros can have problems with the brake module …the black box in the middle. People bypass them by changing wiring, not sure I’d try that but it’s something else to consider.
