Well it’s not a new thing that countries copy successful designs from each other. It’s pretty obvious once you look at similarities that gunsmiths often take a part of a design that’s already existing and upgrade it. Did German engineers played a big role in Soviet and American development of space programs? Of course. Were they necessary? Absolutely not. Crediting engineers for their achievements is one but it’s a combined effort of all people involved and not just a single person idea.

Germans had better equipment, but less of it. They were far ahead of the Americans, especially at the onset of the war. The allies won by sheer industrial production, we had far more planes, tanks, boats ect, and we could fuel it all properly. V2 rocket was the first man-made object to reach space in 1944. They also had night vision, the first jet fighter, flying wing, guided bombs, ballistic missiles like the V1, V2. The only thing that the Americans had over Germany technologically was the nuclear bomb.

Von Braun employed slave labourers from concentration camp Buchenwald and later his very own concentration camp Mittelbau-Dora. Its sole purpouse was to provide expendable slave workers to manufacture the V2. Thousands died in horrible conditions because of this and von Braun not only knew but also requested more slave workers to speed up the manufacturing process. He is not the innocent scientist you make him out to be. The myth of the scientist who was forced to partake in the Third Reich is Cold War US propaganda.

That's meant to be a neutral technical viewpoint, the Nazi still did horrible crimes.

    Interesting facts about the V2:
    1. Together with the V1, the development of this weapon cost Germany 1.5x the amount the Manhattan project cost the US
    2. More people died building the V2s, mainly concentration camp labourers, than were killed by its use as a weapon
    3. The British military actually were happy about the V2s, because they caused relatively little harm to the British war effort and cost Germans valuable resources that could have been better used on normal fighter planes
