  • In this video, Craig takes a look at the new IWC Ingenieur Automatic 40 in stainless steel. Gerald Genta redesigned the Ingenieur in 1976 and now IWC has brought back the classic design? How do the new models compare to the Ingenieur SL Ref. 1832? How does compare to Genta's iconic designs, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and the Patek Philippe Nautilus? Craig discusses.

    I am interested to know what your favourite dial color be in the steel version. Thanks

      I think I like the Aqua. Very unique and the only variation that has the middle link of the bracelet polished

      Me too.. I like the fact that the middle links in the bracelets are polished.

    I own the white dial and it's excellent! The fit and finish is superb. I have several other hyped integrated sports watches, and my new Ingenieur is taking the majority of wrist time. And yes, it's finished as well as an RO, GP Laureato or even an Overseas. I much prefer the white/silver dial over the other two. Especially with the brushed center links vs polished on the aqua dial.

    I am very surprise how limited these appear, they must be either hard to produce or they are limiting supply. When I picked up my Aqua dial a few months ago, I was told that the titanium one won’t be available until next year at the earliest.

    • @wristenthusiast
      @wristenthusiast  Год назад

      Yeah, I haven’t seen any others in the wild. How are you liking the Aqua? That’s what I wanted to review originally but it wasn’t available. How does the polished middle link change the look?

      I am loving it, the dial in my opinion is the best of the bunch. Surprising I felt the white looked better than black in person but seems the black is more popular. The polish links are very subdue in most conditions unlike an oyster bracelet, I think most times it’s hard to tell. I personally believe that the dial has more character than the other Genta watches, pity you weren’t able to try the Aqua.

      Agree. I am literally taking delivery of mine this coming week. Waited 7 months, prior iwc customer. Taking a leaf out of Rolex's supply control strategy.

      Here in Hong Kong only a handful of Aqua have been delivered to VIP customers so far. I'm told I'll get mine before Xmas which has been brought forward from the original one year suggested date. That will mean mine has taken 4 months if I get it before Xmas.

    Really like the look, but from researching I don’t think the movement is an in-house product.

    • @wristenthusiast
      @wristenthusiast  Год назад

      It’s in house but basically a clone of an older eta movement. So I can see the argument for either classification

    • @Alex-Rainmaker

      It uses a ValFleurier movement. The movement factory is owned by Richemont and the same movement is used in Panerai and Baume & Mercier with different power reserve.

    ive been on the waitlist for the Aqua dial since April. They said it will be till next April to get delivery. It seems very strange why a brand would limit production that low. Im sure its a great watch but come on, its not a hand made piece. Its kinda dulled my excitement to see how few if these entered the hands of collectors. The watch hobby is supposed to be a conversation and enjoyment of watches we own. Sadly its been about exclusivity lately. Hopefully well get more Ingy's on our wrists soon

    Great review my friend, there was one small thing you forgot to mention, the little buttons that are under the bracelet to remove links quick and easy without tools, OK.. maybe a toothpick, something the Royal Oak and the Nautilus does not have, and in my book that's a huge plus.. and BTW the New Ingenieur looks amazing specially the Aqua.. Wow! Now that's a KILLER..💪⌚️😎🤘

      You are right. The bracelet link removal mechanism is probably my favorite on any luxury watch. Just so easy if you have two paper clicks, toothpicks, etc. Its so simple and once you know how to use it, so easy.

    Omega prices are far worse. White dial moon, 57 etc is only couple thousand less, some omega models are thousands more and IWC is a notch or 2 above omega in dial, bracelet finishing and movement quality with IWC's high horology complications. Ingeniur is a little over priced but not terribly, its a watch you have to see in real life to fully appreciate, it's closer competitors, Lorreato, Alpine eagle are about 5k more

  • @jchong416

    I don't think the value is there for this watch. No in house movement. No complications. Old tech in a Faraday cage instead of a antimagnetic hairspring. Also nobody really cares about Genta designs outside of the Royal oak and nautilus. Who is paying big money for the pole router, pasha, constellation, mickey mouse watch, etc. This was a cash grab. This is a 7k watch. I'd rather have a datejust at this price

    • @markhammerschmidt5315

      "Who is paying big money for the pole router, pasha, constellation, mickey mouse watch, etc" non of which are steel sports watches or even that recent. Good luck with the mundane and pedestrian DJ.

    • @bdegrds
      @bdegrds 5 месяцев назад

      You don't know what your talking about. Every source says it's an in house movement. It has a silicon hair spring, ingeniur is very beloved. And the finishing rivals watches in the holy trinity

    • @jchong416
      @jchong416 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@bdegrds its a val fleurier which is Richemont's equivalent to ETAs. It's in the mark XX and many other Richemont offerings including baume and Mercier watches. I am not sure about the hairspring but if it's silicon, why put it in a Faraday cage instead of a display case back? If your, argument is preserving a historical look, why not remove the crown guards?

    • @bdegrds
      @bdegrds 5 месяцев назад

      @@jchong416it's in the cage because the original was, it's preserving the heritage /history of the piece, the milgauss is done the same way for example. The movement is not a drop in movement, at most fleurier sends the components to the manufacturer in this case iwc then the company assembles, finishes and regulates the movement. This is very common practice throughout the industry. A movement that is completed like this by iwc, is nothing similar to BM for example, BM is no where close the manufacturer iwc is. Price wise When you compare Lorreato, Alpine eagle are both 5k more. The ingeniur price is little high but not so bad to write it off. The finishing on it is incredible in real life, and that's overlooked by internet people, the finishing is the most time consuming part if building a watch, and time csts money which makes it more to produce

    • @bdegrds
      @bdegrds 5 месяцев назад

      @@jchong416fleurier components, finished, assembled, regulated by iwc, not the same as drop in eta, or BM. almost all watch brands use third party components, cage is because original had it, crown guards are just a design choice trolls like to jump on
