    Great explanation. With all the RFI nowadays between PC and radio over USB what would be the best future solution if we still use a physical connection ie not WIFI?

    • @HamRadioDeluxe
      @HamRadioDeluxe  Год назад

      Yeah, eventually this all needs to be Ethernet (wired or WiFi). But... sadly... we still have rigs shipping with DB9 serial connectors on them and serial connectors have been gone from PCs for 2 decades or more. It may take a while. Then... software will need to stop looking for a virtual COM port and go directly to the radio over Ethernet.

    First! Your presentation says "Deprecated" but you said, "Depreciated" .. Which one is correct? Thanks Dr. Carper!

      I'll strike that up to either latent dislexia or "old age."

      I think probably a typo but its !obvious that it’s depreciated

    Correct me if I'm wrong, and for whatever reason, (I'm not sure about JUST PTT) , on the IC-7200 the USB is for soundcard ONLY and that funky Port 76 1/8" jack runs all the radio functions. Hmmmm...

    • @HamRadioDeluxe
      @HamRadioDeluxe  Год назад

      That's quite possible. I've never used that rig. But it could be one of those cases where you get the soundcard but somehow need to either split the existing COM port or get another USB-to-Serial cable that you can get into the PTT connection.

    Hello Dr. Carper, Maybe a little off-topic, but are there any plans in the future to incorporate the possibility to setup a (HF) radio with a transverter offset in HRD? I am a DX'er on the 2m band, and for best performance, I use a HF radio and transverter setup. Ham Radio Deluxe still thinks I make contacts on the 10m band when I log a 2m band QSO. So at this moment, I am forced to abandon the CAT connection to HRD, and to manually fill in all QSO data... Any solution or workarround is very appreciated! Best regards, Kevin ON5DRE.

    I do hope you will (in the future) consider UDP as a communication pathway.

    • @HamRadioDeluxe
      @HamRadioDeluxe  Год назад +1

      We absolutely will. Rig Control already communicates to the other apps in Ham Radio Deluxe using IP. But at present, it won't do us much good to go UDP/IP to radios when 99.9% of the radios are incapable. But yes, absolutely that's where this needs to go.

      @@HamRadioDeluxe Outstanding! My RF2K-S amp from RF-Kits can listen to UDP on WiFi or LAN so that is just another bit of gear that would benefit from HRD broadcasting UDP. So if HRD can someday broadcast UDP for frequency, then my amp will be able to follow along. Today the RF2K-S is connected to the Yaesu 101MP via CAT. But wire elimination would be beneficial in the long run. Keep up the good work. Oh and a tip on Bourbon, add a few TBS of simple syrup to your glass and mix with Bourbon .... man that is good, and BTW glad you can get Luxardo cherries there in VK land.... 73 Art W1SWL

    I still have all my gender benders and breakout connectors. With a scope, you could always get things running.

      Yep, I still have all mine also - gender benders and various cables that have all the combinations of male-female and straight-through or null-modem (we always called them "cross-over cables").
