Aren't you supposed to be working while at work? Isn't that the entire reason you're being paid, because you're "at work"? Please don't tell anyone what your job is. The market will be overwhelmed.
Circus Maximus might possibly be the largest stadium ever!! The largest modern stadium has a capacity of 150,000 only just matching the lover estimates for Circus Maximus.
And for a plus 5 happiness bonus it's a no brainer. Definitely get it built before you establish too many cities though, or you're forever chasing Circus that needs to be built as a prerequisite
The Ottawa Senators are the 3rd most winning team in the NHL of the Stanley Cup. They have won 11 Stanley Cups only exceeded by 2 by Toronto & 24 by Montreal. Considering there are 32 teams, 3rd most winning is not bad. The only catch is they won their Cups between 1903-27. Second place Toronto last won in 1967 & Montreal in 1993. With american teams having far bigger venues and ability to pay top dollar, Canadain teams have been locked out of having the best players, playing "Canada's Game".
And Simon doesn't watch many sports, so I am assuming a writer was just having some fun, and I don't think a Canadian team has won the Cup in roughly the past 30ish years.
I always assumed it was a stroke or a heavy, extended fever. I'm more partial to the latter hypothesis. Especially if he was already predisposed to mental illness, a prolonged fever could have really messed up his brain.
8:41 There’s something just wrong about how the picture slowly pans down til the point that we see the winning gladiator crushing the losers balls by stepping on them!!

I just came to watch this knowing how little our Fact Boi cares about the subject matter. Yes it's a compilation, but you can tell. He speaks quicker hoping to get through it quicker. In the eyes out the mouth. 😂
Is simon having work done on his place? I swear i can hear hammering or knocking in the background. Edit: it might just be his ginormius watch hitting the table
58:31 I know assassinations were somewhat normal back then, at least compared to now, but that just makes me wonder why it took so long to take Caligula out. Dude sounded absolutely insufferable
Denarii is not the money Roma would use… it is a type of coin.. a Denarius is 4 (four) Sestertii. Sestertius is called “HS” and is the unit of account (like the US dollar is the unit of account while $20 can be a $20 bill, two $10, 4x $5 and mix and match. A Republican denarius was 10 AS (copper coin) and still 4x Sestertii (small silver coin… Sestertius means “2 and one half”). But in 1st century BC, the denarius was change to 16 smaller AS and the Sestertius became a large bronze like coin. In the new Roman show “Those about to die” use Sestertii most the time.
That Adam ruins everything guy stated gladiators weren't killed and treated like race horses. Ive been arguing that claim for years. They would reinact battles and the losing side were typically nobody gladiators pulled from the lyme stonw quarry
You ever find it odd that anytime anything has to do with the history of Rome it’s always a British person covering it? Or how in all the movies and shows (not counting barbarian series) they are always played by Brit’s? And the Romans were not even Anglo Saxon? They owned the English territory for a cup of coffee. And the Brit’s are the ones that rock them the most.
That's mostly just because of what we associate with those voices. The reason it's usually an English guy covering Roman stuff is because people with English accents make great narrators, they tend to have pleasing voices with an air of sophistication, hence why most famous narrators are British, that really goes in general but also it's obviously an English speaking thing, if you were a native Spanish speaker watching Spanish videos on the topic it most likely wouldn't be a British guy. Same thing goes for the accents in media, we associate those posher accents in England with high society, regalness, and Europeans in general. It's a way of communicating to the audience information about the characters, and also because it's what we're familiar with.

He's very prolific. 😂
Really? I find that hard to believe. I was certain he had more
JUST 42?!?!
Just 42?!
" 10k Toot"..?
"many gladiators would not survive their first fight" every dude watching: " I would survive my first fight"
"I'm going to live forever, so far, so good"
Whoa! A 2.5hr today I found out, what is this casual criminalist?

Today I sleep to Sleep to Simon telling be about death. Wonderful.

It’s the tax, not the venues. Canadians are communist and take all of your money
i think the joke was in reference to them not winning the cup in nearly a century, and the fact that they do kinda suck

“Do you like movies about gladiators?”
"Have you ever seen a grown man naked?"
"Have you ever been in a Turkish prison?"

Love Therese Long multi topic videos. Keep it up 😁
The sound differences between some of the videos is really substantial. Other than that - love this!

I imagine it would have been analogues to UFC today, with a considerably higher chance of being mamed or killed.
