No… it really wasn’t like this lol. Modern fencing is basically touch tag with flimsy foils. Actual rapier duels did not have random bouncing back and forth wasting of energy. These two are aiming to simply touch any part for points. Dueling in this aspect where they would be going for the kill would be much less high energy and precise. Rapiers were also around 42 inches long and much more solid, and not nearly as bendy, so they could not waste their movement or energy in this fashion or risk being dumb by bouncing in and out with the risk of having their blade deflected away and dying as a result.
Actual rapier duels weren't done by world-class athletes either. People didn't bounce because they couldn't as they weren't fit enough, it's also the reason why lower level epee fencing is much less bouncy.

@@jinta87 also the swords being used here weren’t based on rapiers… it’s based on epee du combat hence the name epee..
