Never sing with your eyes shut. Singing is about communication. You are a real, proper tenor, but at times you are too self-indulgent with the tempo. This is not Verdi!

The song is about a plea to god for mercy, and he conveys that well with his expressions, therefore his eyes being closed is tasteful for this piece, it conveys a sense of dread.

I find your comment strange, David. It's a prayer, for goodness' sake, and his eyes are in fact open most of the time, occasionally closed, so I don't get making that an issue. As for communication, I find this whole performance riveting.

The rendering is beautiful even if there was a paper bag over his head. Its a prayer. Closing his eyes did not rob him of anything. Bocelli keeps his eyes closed all the time! OK he is blind but it takes nothing from his performances.
