as an actual certified italian, the hand gesture roughly means "the fuck" as in "the fuck you want", "the fuck did you just say" or "the fuck are you doing" it can be used alone or in conjunction with the previous spoken phrases (in italian, obviously)

Italians are really an entertaining bunch. My friend's boyfriend is Italian and we went for dinner one time to a Malay restaurant. At one point, he got up and started walking around the table making "mmph mmph mmph" sounds, while moving the pinched hand gesture up and down. We all thought he didn't like the food but apparently Italians do that when food is really delicious

0:15 Once upon a time, my friends and I were playing WoW and, having come from EQ2, I lamented that there wasn't crafting specializations as a class. I didn't want to fight, I just wanted to make money and craft items.
Like Raora, I mentioned to them that I wanted to make carpets, curtains, furniture, etc and grow flowers that I had picked... and everyone said I was gay.

I am not Italian so this is purely outside perspective, It generally seems to be as Raora said when asking a question or when frustrated about trying to get to bottom of something, or to "get to the point". So for me the gesture is almost a very literal attempt to "grasp the situation". I don't know, my brain looks at stuff in a weird way so I could be entirely wrong.

    • @marty8895
