They have to be run in. First 300 miles = top speed 35 to 40mph (or you will kill the engine). Once they're run in they loosen up and produce a lot more power, and stop vibrating. The power is all low down so there's no point revving it. It uses torque, very wide power band. And if you put 18psi in the front like the RE book of words says it is going to handle funny, won't turn in to corners - you want about 27psi like the tyre manufacturer says. Handling best described as stable and forgiving.
+Ashwin S That bloody Chetan Jagtap looks like a guy who just came out of a shithole trying to look cool in front of everybody. Even kamal r khan looks waay better than him. Talking about girls, huh.
Regarding Royal Enfields, they have a break in period of roughly 1500 to 2500 miles. You are supposed to ride below 60 mph for at least the first 500 to 800 miles. (Otherwise their engines will vibrate you to hell if you do not break the bike in properly) Once broken in, they will ride smooth and true between 70 and 80 miles per hour, though, it is happiest (once broken in) at roughly 55 to 65 miles per hour. Furthermore, the RE company has been around far longer than the 1950's. It was sold to the Indian manufacturers in the 50's after going bust in the U.K. The brand is in fact older than Harley-Davidson by one year. The sr400 seems like a great base with lots of customization options. However, like the RE, its way overpriced.
Royal Enfield in the UK didn't fold until 1969-1970 ( can't remember exactly which year). Royal Enfield started being built in India as part of a contract with the Indian Army. It is indeed an historic company and I'm pleased to see the present owners haven't forgotten it's British heritage.
Dev Kulkarni $7700ish (including tax and stealership fees for classic EFI) in Canada means there is more than import charges at play here. Dealership are being greedy, not least of all when they are so few and far between. I could import one for less from India. (and just might eventually) ;-)
+usertakenagain , the CGT for a sore back but the Classic for hours and hours of comfort. Same performance and with a little tuning enough to embarrass bigger bikes
I have a 2013 Royal Enfield. But mine is a B5 model, not the CGT tested. From a quality standpoint, this bike is about as bad as it gets, unless you go Chinese. I am a mechanic, and I have redone some of the crappy stuff on it, but it has plenty more. I replaced the EFI with an Amal carb, using a kit from a UK supplier of Royal Enfield parts, and the huge 40 pound catalytic converter exhaust with a much smaller, lighter non catalytic '60s style Triumph "peashooter" muffler, which is quite a bit louder. Between the louder exhaust and the cone air filter that came with the carb kit, this bike now has a lot of character. You can hear the loud "chuf chuf chuf" sound as it inhales through the filter. Just like a "real" British bike from the '50s/'60s. It is an awesome ride, at about 55 mph it comes into it's own, the sound is perfect, the low frequency vibration is perfect, it's kind of a motorcycling nirvana. And that's why I bought it and modified it. It is also beautiful compared to modern styled bikes. BUT. That's as far as it goes. It is not daily transportation, it is not safe on the freeway, and it is prone to breaking down. I won't ride it more than 135 miles from home, the towing limit of my roadside assistance plan. Get one of these only as a toy, and be ready to get your hands dirty.
Ok, I'm not saying its anywhere near a perfect machine but, you have to be a real motorcycle enthusiast to appreciate REs. When you are on one, its more about the journey than about the ride itself. Its just not for everyone. I'm sure people who have been spoiled by the smooth revving inlines would find these retro machines to be quite underwhelming. But then again its not about quarter miles, track days or or aerodynamics. Its about the experience of it all. Riding around on it all day and taking in the sights and enjoying every moment, instead of just speeding past them.
As an Indian, my friend works in a remote village in the northeastern part of India, he has been riding a continental gt in dirt, mud and gravel roads thousands of kms a month for the last few years, the bike has never failed him, and he won't trade this motor bike for any other in this price range.
Ivor Stead bro.. They're saying that because of the price. I mean.. If it were priced as the same in india , then nobody would complain. Because at 2.5 lakhs... It is the best package here...
Joseph Haller I lived 17 years among Harleys....they are pieces of shit, just a name manipulated by American propaganda feed by American chauvinism,in reality as machines ther are non reliable craps, as bas that some cities have change them for foreign motorcycles from japan or Europe which are far more reliable than Harleys.
You should do some research before you talk down a company the evo and twin cam Harley's are dependable and one of the only motorcycles out there that got into the million mile mark I average 10k miles a year in mine and never had any issues if you treat your bike right it doesn't matter who makes it!
The Royal enfield is a good bike for what it is! The design is 50 years old and has not changed much and that's the appeal. Is it rough around the edges? Yes it is, will the engine leak? Yes it will, is it stiff yes it is. Is it severely underpowered? yes. Is it still a beautiful machine? Yes! If you want a sophisticated piece of engineering then get a Ducati or MV Augusta. Want something classic, go for the enfield. This is a perfect beginner bike, my girlfriend brought this to learn on and then after a year went on to a bigger bike. Great second bike when your primary rider is in service
+Andrew Rai - my Redditch 350 leaked like a sieve but my EFI hasn't lost a drop. On the old bikes the primary chain case is held on with one bolt so when you pull it onto the centre stand the cases flex and it leaks. Despite that, those old bike are still puttering around all over India. The EFI is a re-design of the UCE, many bolts keep things tight. The electrics on italian bikes don't exactly have a good reputation, they don't seem to believe in water proofing nor operating switches with thick gloves on. You need the right gear to ride a Ducati or MV - brown trousers. After an exhilarating ride on a fast sports bike you come back with a lasting impression of lots of black tarmac and white lines with no real idea where you've been.
REs are tried & tested in all sorts of trains and conditions from many years now...these are the bikes which can cake walk through the highest motorable road in the world "ladakh khardung la"... as a proud owner of an RE(1996 model) i my self i have been riding it in places no other machine can resist... any doubts cheak youtube
It figures ... By the time America adds taxes, tariffs, and bribery for customs, it doubles the price. I once had some nice chaps over in China actually donate an engine to me for a research project, for free; but I couldn't afford to get it out of customs! Buncha robbers.
Continental GT is RAW. It's rebellious. It got a character. Vibes. You like this bike for all the wrong thing with a bike. It's about Speed, performance. If want a machine which feels alive and makes love to you. Well this is the one.
yamaha, suzuki, honda, kawasaki, american brand like harly... bmw,vw,merc etc.indian brands bajaj,Tvs,Hero motocorp,M&M the company that is constructor in MOTO3,Tata who owns Land rover, jaguar, etc are also make automobiles in India....and india reached Mars RESPECT OTHER COUNTRIES THAN YOUR OWN...
thinkpol But, thinkpol, that's what I want in a bike. I'm an old fart and a retro, go-slow with lots of attitude/style suits me. If your cup of tea is a rice rocket, then God Bless you but I can't handle those anymore. And, yes, I know that "retro engineering" is a way of saying that the RE Cont GT is 1970 technology but, again, that's okay. I began to ride in 1965 and this puppy might bring it back for me.
when European brand (I know it's assembled in India) make the bike vibrate and uncomfortable, people call it "it have a character" "it's a trademark" etc,but when china make it they'd call it "crappy" lol
No, you're wrong. When European or Japanese companies make a bike styled like the 70s that vibrates, *but not uncomfortably*, it has character. If a new sports bike vibrated a lot, it'd be called junk. If *any* bike vibrates uncomfortably, it's junk.
LJ Prince No, I haven't. Have you actually? Mind you, my point lies in the difference in degree of vibration. If it's a little, it's fine. If it's uncomfortable and feels like it'll fall apart, it's junk.
@Sharath S For a company like Royal Enfield, a company with decades of experience, quality is something that needs to be expected and I agree, for that price you need to have a reason to demand that kind of money which this bike does not have. Yes it looks Fantastic but fantastic looks can only take you so far. Seems like you are too easily pleased.
i need ur help i am confuse bwtn std bullet 350 n classic 350 which bike i shud buy prfmnce wise comfort wise maintaince wise milgewise handling so pls reply me which is bst for me .i like std but some of my frnd suggst to take classic
It's a 3k bike in India and 6k in USA. So you guys might be reviewing the bike as per that price tag. But just for information, Royal Enfield is known for their assurance of a robust feel in every motorcycle they roll out. It's an Indian cult that explains the madness for RE engines, sound, and the hardcore feeling you get when you ride one. The bike improvises overtime.
Devang Vagh royal enfield should improve on that. sounds like indians just blindly follow and support the brand but criticism must be spoken out for the brand to improve. 29 hp out of a 535cc machine is ridiculously low and should get checked. i don't mind the roughness of it. but re should really start looking into their engines.
If you might know there are RE Bullets that were made in 80s with iron alloy engines. Those bikes were damn heavy and powerful. They were designed to be also used in military and hilly areas. Those models were responsible for the famous cult. Later on RE revised the models with light weight components.
They are working on a 750 twin to go in the same frame. None the less it will stop the Yamaha and set a world land speed record in 500cc pushrod class this year. The girls don't have a clue. My Wife loves hers.
i do own one it's a great bike, just do'nt forget it's an brand new old bike, reguardless off your comments you got zero clew about retro bike, retro not neo retro
hehe..glad you made this vid dude...learned a lot..actually planning to buy a GT..waiting for the signature black to hit the local RE showroom..but not sure whether to go for custom exhaust or stock. Is it for real that custom exhaust give a 2-3BHP more..or its only in the feel? Someone please educate..also does the custom exhaust by the RE itself reduce the mentioned mileage
Only if you upgrade to an high performance air filter and re-map the EFI. Otherwise it's just going to help the engine breath but not improve horsepower. Keep in mind though that aftermarket exhausts will make the bike louder.
PurityofEssence Wondering how to re-map the EFI. Can't be done self right? Do all service stations do this? Air filter, how about K&N? I read these are good
Bessen Kuruvilla Philip BTW here is my Signature Black RE GT --> lh5.googleusercontent.com/-E-M183VITPw/VZTlLXnkfSI/AAAAAAAAALI/lgL-tHCjUok/w576-h432-no/IMG_0269.JPG
my dad had a custom one. his was 1 of 3 with the exhaust it is. he died a couple days ago in a crash on his. im keeping and fixing it. going to ride the shit out of it for sure
Character and bad shit like missing shifts from a bad gear box are not one in the same. I wish people would stop using that as an excuse. New riders don't need nor should need to deal with "character". On the other hand it does make me personally appreciate good product bikes *couph, like mine. Ive never missed a shift or found a false neutral, ever. My old vtx1300c on the other had was another story, It had Character. :)
shizuokaBLUES You know...all those rock videos Sid Vicious made back in the 70's. Guy made tons of them. Then he joined the Sex Pistols and his rock video phase was over.
Your videos are great, but PLEASE Adam...stop saying "like" all the time. It makes me want to smash my head against a wall. Adam Waheed: "Royal Enfield did a really good job on the styling end, LIKE it looks LIKE a new vintage café racer. LIKE its straight up out of LIKE some LIKE Sid Vicous LIKE rock video from back in the 70s or something LIKE that. LIKE it’s a really cool looking motorcycle." ARRRRGGGHHHHHHHHHH
Instead of choosing Gt, you guys should have opted for the Bullet 500 or Classic 500 from royal enfield. they are much better. ps. Enfields are know for their sound and vibration and stiff riding quality.
Blame custom duties. Bike is really cheap in India retailing around $3000 + taxes. P.S. Royal Enfield is royal. Built like a bullet, ride like a tank. 535cc engines of RE are one of the biggest single cylinder engines in production, closest competition is KTM duke 690 but that's a whole different bike.
I guess u can say d bike s only worth it if u buy it in india, would cost only 3k nd its something totally diff from whats in the indian market at d moment - d only cafe racer in d country
None of the Royal Enfield bikes have a reputation for good quality of materials used in the production. They are expensive ( By indian standards), got quality issues in mechanical & electronics dept., vibrate the bejeesus outta riders and have outdated engines. But they are cult classics. People love these thumpers for the macho image not for its refinement (or lack thereof). Comparing them to Yamaha's refined bikes is not doing them any favors. But the Continental GT & Thunderbird 500 are definitely the picks of the Royal Enfield litter.
Sorry if I heard you wrong..... But hey, the RE bike is crap to the EU/US market, and as you said, Yamaha's SR....WAYYYY better. Price point too is better!
WTF ! do you guys even know what cafe racers are meant for??- they are not for comfort and everday ride...its what racers used in the 50s-60s and ofcourse suspension settings will be on the stiffer side with good brakes and handling on the corners....
Did anybody else notice the overuse of the word "like" by the 3 presenters. These guys do a great job reviewing the bikes, but every time the say "like" (which is almost constantly) when they're about to explain something, it really detracts from their confidence in what they're saying. Apart from that, great review. By the way, I own a TU250 ;)
Sounds like my dual sport, except it doesn't handle well, ancient engineering, from the review its sounds like a pos and won't go off road. It looks cool and it seems like I am describing the Harleys I have ridden.
I saw these bikes at a local Yamaha dealership. The sales guy told me they were complete shit. I was looking for a new bike for my daughters, I think I'd rather spend the money on a Sym or a used Suzi, or Yamaha, maybe an HD 883. Pretty sure I'll stay away from Royal Enfieild.
This is supposed a motorcyclist channel. Why does the rider have that flannel shirt flapping at the rear tire? If it gets caught on the rear wheel, it will make for a very and very sad cautionary tale.
I think adam waheed isn't a proper bike rider. I don't know when it doesn't start? Build quality cheap? Come on just switch gear's aren't feel expensive but else is all metal.
People who buys these bikes forget that it's a World War II design. Even the shocks on the seats are coil springs. It's a retro bike and will give the feeling of a retro bike. They just added the new fuel injector, otherwise it was the old carburetor this bike came with. I was a bit shocked to know that these cost 6k in the US. Maybe it would have costed 2k in India. On the reliability issue, I haven't seen any Royal Enfield failures in India where these bikes are selling since the early 70s. Yes, in case of a puncture, these are pretty annoying to drag around.
It vibrates and it feels stiff?
That's because the test bike is brand new - they take a good 500 miles to run in and loosen up.
Yes, RE bikes are traditional, they need to be run in. They have to be run in.

And if you put 18psi in the front like the RE book of words says it is going to handle funny, won't turn in to corners - you want about 27psi like the tyre manufacturer says. Handling best described as stable and forgiving.
Dont worry brother she is just a girl, and you cant expect more from her, you know what that mean!
All that means is you're a sexist POS. It's a common thing one might overlook.

Any body knows the price of something like this in USA dollars ?
this is an hand made motorcycle man its pure raw steel its classic
Nice model!!
I read they are built in India?
My #1 choice!
It vibrates because it has got a full metal body and a 535cc 1cyl motor....dont compare with any plastic bikes
Adam, dude, it's "motor-CYCLE" not "cickle".... Otherwise I like all your posts informative, real for the real rider. Well done.
I know what i want from this video!
Doesn't ride like a classic,it's much quicker handling. Handles really well, it's the suspension that is harsh. Engine needs a lot of work though.
Mine is perfectly reliable , its a 2015 model. Built like a gun!
Vibration is the USP for Royal Enfield..
Well, now there a new GT. 650CC Twin 47BHP and 0 vibrations
for me that aggressively roaring engine was just seducing.....
my dad had a custom one. his was 1 of 3 with the exhaust it is. he died a couple days ago in a crash on his. im keeping and fixing it. going to ride the shit out of it for sure
Vibration is the best part of royal Enfield....
who are these people reviewing these bikes
Its price is too low...with this price bike is just awesome
Looks like its from a Sid Vicious rock video from the 70's......WTF are you talking about!!??
shizuokaBLUES You know...all those rock videos Sid Vicious made back in the 70's. Guy made tons of them. Then he joined the Sex Pistols and his rock video phase was over.
that's good..Thanks for the chuckle.
it's sooo cheap in india and yet its a rare legend
Your videos are great, but PLEASE Adam...stop saying "like" all the time. It makes me want to smash my head against a wall.
Adam Waheed:
"Royal Enfield did a really good job on the styling end, LIKE it looks LIKE a new vintage café racer. LIKE its straight up out of LIKE some LIKE Sid Vicous LIKE rock video from back in the 70s or something LIKE that. LIKE it’s a really cool looking motorcycle."
ARRRRGGGHHHHHHHHHH
素敵な黄色
vt250スパーダを思い出した…
very nice good
6k dollars? :')
It's half that in India. If you're looking to buy one, just ship it over. Its a fun little bike!
It is made to provide the raw feel of cafe racers in the 60's, not to get your grocery
Sid Vicious rock video (it was on a Hoinda BTW) wtf are these people tallking about?
Why does anything on here or on TV thats made in the USA have always have ANNOYING soft rock guitar or drums in the background? Well?
It won't fall apart! Thats stupidest thing anyone ever said about a Royal Enfield!
In India it costs merely 3500$ don't you guys think that it is really worth it.
RE is all about looks & feel not for racing.
You Wana ride it in UK , stick to a Harley , I'm a race mechanic in UK ..... I've got one ..... Awesome machine
you guys should get a Vespa
not worth the money.! but nice and cool for city riding
you can semi build stronger more powerful a café racer with a lot less money than the royal one brand new.
tribulation138 well go ahead
i hope no one takes these children to seriously ride it make up your own mind
Instead of choosing Gt, you guys should have opted for the Bullet 500 or Classic 500 from royal enfield. they are much better.
ps. Enfields are know for their sound and vibration and stiff riding quality.
Vibration? Are you kidding? You better ride a pink Vespa..
modern enfields are not what they used to be ... new ones will probably fall apart if you kick it hard enough
They'll need to be less greedy with the profits and make better quality for less money!
It's the dealers and the import taxes and stuffs and not the manufactureres I guess. Because in my country it cost less than half of that.
Rode a Bullet for two years...loved it. Very reliable. People stopped to comment a lot. Girls loved it. Fuck this fake ass review
RE is India's version of Harley Davidson.
+Runeguy33 yes but more reliable and affordable to own un like harely overpriced junk
Babe, it will never fall apart, even after your hair grays, it will never fall apart.
Sounds like my dual sport, except it doesn't handle well, ancient engineering, from the review its sounds like a pos and won't go off road. It looks cool and it seems like I am describing the Harleys I have ridden.
royal Enfield is best
That's a pity! Looks like she like it stiff. I guess I was wrong...
it's $3000 in india , and i still don't wanna buy it but it has a cult following here like harleys in US , yeah , funny , but true. haha
Ridin in my hood
worst review ever....its like women doing reviews for the Dark Knight Rises!!
I saw these bikes at a local Yamaha dealership. The sales guy told me they were complete shit. I was looking for a new bike for my daughters, I think I'd rather spend the money on a Sym or a used Suzi, or Yamaha, maybe an HD 883. Pretty sure I'll stay away from Royal Enfieild.
its continental GT
This is supposed a motorcyclist channel. Why does the rider have that flannel shirt flapping at the rear tire? If it gets caught on the rear wheel, it will make for a very and very sad cautionary tale.
I can get this ride for under 3000$ as an on road price in India
Damn, 6k for that? No way people will pay for that in masses. The Yamaha is 1k less and is a hell of a lot better build quality.
Yes, in case of a puncture, these are pretty annoying to drag around.
its $3000 in india....USA $6000.....not worth
OMG! 6000 for this SHIT. It costs around 3000 in India still hardly anyone buys it here in India.
this review seems kinda bias...
Why does the girl at 2:20 talk through her nose and sounds like a kazoo?
I wonder what they think of the new 650's and you want to see a bike vibrate ride an old H.D. pan head , children these days
An honest review. 👍kudos
Continental is a useless motorcycle and a piece of junk cannot be compared to the legendary classic 350.
