Mourinho keeps faith in Robben

- Chelsea vs Newcastle 2004/2005.
Despite Robben’s frustrating period with Chelsea, this video shows how at one point Mourinho trusted that Robben could deliver. He kept him in the game even though Robben lost the ball countless times. However, even in the clips you might see that there is talent, and perhaps this is why the manager's faith was finally rewarded at the end of the game. - Спорт
The best thing about Robben was that every defender knew that he would predictably switch to his left foot, yet they still couldn't stop him. And that magic left foot was finding the way to score or pass.
Exactly
Robben doesn't pass, he shoots or crosses
@@dhruvaveldi A cross is a pass.
@@sukhdevr3489 i know that man, it was a joke back in the day that Robben never passes. Seeing someone say that he does pass made me say that joke again!
As what Bruce lee said
"I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times."
Robben has looked like he’s 34 years old his whole career
Ahahahaha vero
Rooney effect
@@majohladky3249 more like "Male Pattern Baldness" effect lmao
@@bigboss4178 they are the same effect
@@majohladky3249 lmao true, Rooney is pretty much the same age as Ronaldo. Unbelievable
He played so differently from his days at Bayern. So often a players effectiveness comes in being played in the right position and in a system most suited to his abilities .
Exactly, which is why it pisses me off when certain coaches consistently and stubbornly persist imposing their tactics that involves forcing a player to play out of their natural position/role. Some players may adapt, but if u keep trying over and over and over and you see that that player just isnt playing well under the way YOU want to ay him. Maybe its time to play him where you know, he is good at playing.
Fam dont forget about the difference between his age and experience
He was young then
A young ronaldo and messi were also predictable
@@bpt3486 i mean not as predictable as Robben, you always knew he was gonna cut to the inside and shoot with his left (at Bayern) and he STILL would manage to get past defenders and make those goals. Here at chelsea was playing on the left flank so it wasnt best suited for him.
As far as I know, the left wing was his natural side, and it seems that that was how football worked back then.
He was good at Chelsea
He was good at madrid
But at bayern that's where he became legendary
Because the german farmers League gave him confidence

Playing him on the left side feels criminal
I swear
something only pourinho would do
@@fabr1cated Robben played on the right quite a bit under Jose, as him and Duff would swap places constantly during matches.
Gudjohnson, Joe Cole and Duff play on the right side. Robben just a new boy in town back then.
@@fabr1cated mourinho owns every other manager
His dribbling movement so Satisfying
Robben looks very slow here compared to his Bayern days
That time he plays as a classic winger. Then he came to madrid who already have robinho at left side, and bernd schuster put him on the right wing as a inverted winger. He score goal against Villareal with "classic robben goal" as we knew, cutting inside. And the rest is history
He played on the right frequently at Chelsea, as him and Duff would swap sides constantly during matches. Don't act like it was some genius revelation when Real did it, because it wasn't.
@@metalswifty23 it is, u can see his gameplay. It changed a lot. Madrid change him but Bayern give him more confidence to do a great things to score a lot of goals
@@sad_ink It wasn't. Jose made a point of allowing both Robben and Duff to play on both sides of the pitch. He said that in a very early interview, so he'd already seen what was capable with Robben playing on the right side. The reason why he changed/got better is the same as any other world class player - he got older, gained more experience, and trained in specific ways.
Real assisted in his progression, but it wasn't a new thing by any means, and it's nowhere near as important as you'd make it out to be.
@@metalswifty23 even robben surprised when he score against villareal. U can search the news about it. Robben was an integral part of the Chelsea left wing not in the right at the time, he barely score goals.
@@sad_ink You are entirely missing the point. It's like trying to talk to a fucking brick wall.
He was good at PSV, at Chelsea, Madrid and Bayern. He is legendary in Groningen.
A very young Robben still in a learning curve.
One of the most underrated players in the premier league era at the time
Fax bro but he really flourished with the Bayern side
He was still a beast before that tho 🔥
Too injury prone while in England if memory serves. Later on when Bayern's doctors and physios eventually sorted his injury woes, he was a great player. If it wasn't for his struggles with injury, he could've left a Messi and Ronaldo level legacy. Crazy fast, technical ability, and football brain to make use of his abilities.
@@wolfpackpete6408 that is true
@@wolfpackpete6408 not to that degree im from holland. Robben is close to them but i would say he is 3 levels below them
@@nozone4109 part of the reason those 2 reached the level they got to was being reasonably injury free. If their training had been broken up several times a season by injury, they'd have lost sharpness... in fact after Euro2008 Ronaldo did have ankle surgery and took a month or so to regain that elite match fitness. Also had a little time out early in his Real Madrid career. It wasn't until his 2nd year there when Mourinho arrived, and Ronaldo successfully demanded to play every minute of every game, that his goal stats shot up. On the pitch for 100% of the season, a free-role with little to no defensive responsibility - so energy saved for personal glory instead of working for the team. Don't get me wrong Messi is almost as bad, Robben wasn't famed for tracking back either.
Robben's legacy is mostly success with Bayern. But that would be different if not for the fine margins of 2010 world cup final. Although in the direct comparison with Messi and Ronaldo, they haven't scored in international cup finals either, so can't be too harsh on Robben for that.
Damien Duff and Arjen Robben? The two left foot powerhouse
Duff was insane on PES
He was indeed the golden boy, rightly put by the commentator. Makes it into my best ever Oranje 11
golden boy is an award, not a compliment per se
@@bugpwdrdust that's incorrect actually. If you would have said that golden boy is *also* an award I could agree but in this case the commentator is using it as a metaphor to indicate robben is one of the greatesr talents of the new generation. That was a sharp observation if you ask me. To find proof for my statement just look at other sports, kickboxer badr Hari was an excellent new kid on the block in the zeroes beating the biggest names and was dubbed the golden boy of kickboxing. Also the Italians never awarded the golden boy award to robben, a certain argentine fella snatched it when robben was breaking through. So some words and titles are used in various contexts by various people, the award you are referring to dates only from 2003, it was definetly not invented then.
To add a fact in defense of our respected British commentator: in 1992, Oscar de la Hoya was dubbed the golden boy of boxing after a succesful 1992 Olympics. The term is even linked to the ancient Greeks.
One of my favourite players to my teentime! It was amazing, good vibes specially in the Madrid💪👍
A current golden boy they said to the man thats look in his 40s 😅
I loved watching Robben play for us, such an explosive player.
So Nice to see à player actually trying to dribble and make a difference..
Imagine without the injuries...so glad he ended up with Ribery...I will never forget his first appearance at Bayern....you immidiately knew...now we have two world class wingers with totally different strengths and weaknesses....
#Robbery
It was against Wolfsburg.
I made a bet in the 2014 World Cup with my grandfather, I said that Robben was 45 years old while he said Robben was 38 years old. We also agreed that if we missed the age by 2 years, it would still count. The loser would have to serve and clean the table that night (we had A LOT of guests)
turns out Robben was 30 years old in 2014's WC LMAO we both lost and shared the table duties lol

What a fantastic video. It was like watching a short movie with two main characters.
this man had electricity running through his legs, he never got tired and was unstoppable for a straight 90 minutes most matches
We all got electricity running through our legs 😂
The slide tackles were on point in this clip.
One drible man..
Legend! Respect 🔥
The idea of playing left footed players on the left was popular at the time for accurate crossing. Now crossing falls on the left back, while the left winger should be right footed for striking.
My favorite player of all time
The special one mourinho🐐
Bro Thanks for giving the old school football highlights
I love your hard work.
One day you will be famous (Don't forget me then)
Alternate title - Mourinho decides to sub robben but play doesn't end then robben scores
Seeing robben play on the left is making me feel uneasy🤣🤣
loved watching this chelsea, chelsea today has no identity
the balance he kept to score that goal
Robben in bayern was something else this boy isn't the real Robben
I think an underrated issue here is how bobbly the pitch was. Defo makes a huge difference for a player who likes to dribble. And in these clips the ball always seemed to be too far underneath him when he had the ball

In his mind must’ve been:
“The day will come and eventually I’ll be able to dribble every single opponent with the same move until the end of my career”.

People often forget how many legends mourinho discovered and created. It's crazy how he impacted football yet people still think he is less impactful than guardiola or sir alex.
Discovered and created?? What?? Robben was a known entity even before Mourinho went to Chelsea. He was doing so well at PSV that a deal to go to Manchester was all but agreed, until he changed his mind. Mourinho didn't create or discover anything.

Most of the clips has him playing on the left instead of his favoured right.
Younger Robben was already the man of the team. Everytime the team was on ofense, he was leading it. It is too much time with the ball under his control.
Lampard was the man of that team.
It was a simple fix, he held onto the ball for much too long with 5,6 or 7 touches like on the last sequence before he scored his goal. By the 5 to 6 touch the defense was already in position and ready to close him down, something he adjusted as he matured as a player as seen on this other video

I literally cannot wrap my head around the fact that Robben played for Chelsea
At the end Mourinho's look says "see, that's whats up".
Man had 16 G/A in 18 Matches that season.
And he was only 20 years old 🤣 i am a man united supporter and im still sad that we failed to sign him.
Robben was actually really strong... When the defender tried to body him nearly at the goal post,he barely moved. Wow
back in the day when chelsea got so many fearless winger
So weird to see his asse play without his signature cutting inside cutting middle 🤣
That Pitch.
Unthinkable at this point in time, that he would end up at Bayern.
‘Just about everything he touches turns to goals’
Criminally underrated he was a sensational player.
Robben is an athlete trained to be a football player, which is why he didn't wow as much, conditions had to be perfect for him to do anything.
Imagine if he stayed at Chelsea
I don’t think he would’ve done nearly as well. Nothing to do with Chelsea, but the red of Bayern was always his destiny.
