Always trust your gut. Going for long-term trust over short-term money is something you don't see often in the world on RUclips or any field tbh. Kudos to you, you've earned so much more respect.

I respect the authenticity. Based on my experience I skip the ads section of influencers vlogs because I know that it's there for them to make money. And because of that, the stuff that they are saying about that certain product might not be true. It doesn't stop me from watching them especially if the content is good! I feel like people nowadays know to take those sponsorship ads with a grain of salt.

I have so much respect for Annemarie. As a 32 year-old woman who already takes every influencer recommendation with a grain of salt, it feels great knowing that someone is thinking ethically about what they advertise.
I think most people will see an influencer recommendation and say, “does this product or service make sense for MY life and MY needs?” But to also have to parse out motivations and expectations on top of that when you’re not given even half of the needed information is impossible. And everybody has those couple items that are just “meh” that they bought from a Tik Tok/Instagram ad that may end up going to a landfill … that I’m trying to avoid.
It’s not stupid to think about these things. It’s smart. And in a capitalist world where everyone is trying to sell you something while simultaneously trying to make ends meet … it’s a hard choice to make and I appreciate a RUclipsr who talks about this stuff.

Tbh, I don't take sponsorships seriously. I literally skip over them. It's not a matter of trust or distrust; I'm just not on RUclips or any other platforms looking for something to buy. So the minute someone says's "thank you to the sponsor of this video..." I toggle and skip. I think a lot of people do hence the "most replayed" section is often right after a sponsorship bit. I wish I had something deeper to say, but I accept people are making a living and move on.

  • @currer766

Definitely stand your ground…it’s always easy to tell when an influencer is promoting a product they don’t genuinely believe in (not to say it’s a bad thing..gotta pay the bills) but you lose a certain degree of trust with ur audience (almost like selling out) ..so although ur decision may affect ur channel in some ways…you gain/maintain so much more in quality and viewer loyalty! Respect 🙌🏼

  • @idaeja

I think you seem like SUCH an impressive person, because most creators would just take the deal without second-guessing it, but at the end of the day, people have responsibilities for making their own decisions, and once in a while, it's okay for you to make a decision that benefits you without being overly protective of everyone else.

I usually skip ads/sponsorship sections when they come on, unless I know and trust the influencer (from what they show/say at least) that they genuinely like products they promote. I think as viewers we understand why influencers take on board sponsorships and am happy they are able to get cool sponsorships, but at the same time I'm personally also very supportive that you've decided to take the ethical route:) Sponsorships or not I will continue supporting! hwaiting

Same happened to me while working in HR and realizing that a brand that usually influencers talk about is the worst to their employees, barely pays on time, fire them while on leaves, people literally have nobody in the company to directly talk to... That makes me thing a lot anytime I see my favorite creators talk about them so very well done. We hispanic say no todo el dinero se toma... ¨Not every penny is worth to take¨.

I think viewers can decide on their own if they want to get the product or not so TAKE THE SPONSORSHIPS, treat it like its TV, read the ad and go back to spreading positivity. Don't overthink it, youtube is free making content isnt, and you dont need to explain anything to anyone or feel some kind of way for reading an ad, because youtube is still going to place some weird ads on your video anyway.

I disagree. If you feel ambivalent then yeah maybe show it and be honest about what you like and don’t like (but be fr sponsor have to approve the content so they might not approve anything that’s not 100% fangirling the product). If you feel convicted enough that this isn’t a product you want your image associated with then don’t promote it. It’s more than about the money. It also about your brand. Can’t let short term quick bucks affect long term business/branding.

To answer your question, when i watch a creator and they have a sponsership its SUPER important to me that its brand they could stand by even in a few months or years to come. For example, i brought a standing desk because a creator had a great experience with them, now 3-6 months later, my desk is still going strong and i'm proud to stand by that creator and be exposed to the brand. Another thing is i want to be able to put my dollar to the creator espiecally if they are a POC because i value those things. So at the end of the day their honesty about the company is important, so i am a happy customer and the creator gets a little coin to keep going with creating. You're the best Annemarie and i have so much much respect for you!

It's rare to have an influencer that actually cares about what they're putting out, so I greatly appreciate that you're even taking your moral compass into consideration. That being said, I think most people take influencer brand deals with a grain of salt. If someone is interested in something you're advertising, they probably already had interest in it and should do their own due diligence on whether or not they should actually purchase it. The company will market their product one way or another, so get that money, girl. The opportunities won't always be there.

I think - we can definitely tell when an influencer is actually passionate about the product vs doing it for the sake of their job. Great job for going with your gut though! :)

I feel like it depends if the brand is really responsive when you get damaged products. Like if they have good customer service, and replace the products quickly, they could still be a good brand.

You really care about us and l respect you for that, not alot of influencers can do the same thing, this is a strong character trait rejecting a brand deal due to the quality
I think businesses make mistakes next time give them a 2nd chance

As soon as I realize a portion of the video is dedicated to sponsors, even if the youtuber does it in a subtle way I skip it. It is their job I understand. But I didn't click the video to hear 3-5 min of jewelry/clothes/furniture etc adds. So I just accept it is there, but I don't need to watch so I instantly click ahead. If halfway throught it turns out the whole video turns out to be a giant add I just close it. Appreciate your transparty and honesty. You gained more of my trust :)

appreciate your honesty and my opinion is that if this is your bread & butter, try to make the sponsorship work. If the guilt will eat away at you, then probably best for your own mental health sake to not take it.

I think you’re on point with keep trust at the forefront of your mind and choices. Part of the path that leads to a society with businesses being more transparent and building trust with clientele are those who are part of that system, like influencers, to prioritize trust…
“Trustworthiness is the greatest portal leading unto the tranquility and security of the people. In truth the stability of every affair hath depended and doth depend upon it. All the domains of power, of grandeur and of wealth are illumined by its light.”
