Kodiak, what a place! My wife & I visited during the Summer Solstice of the year 2000. Looks like it has changed very little. We loved the wildlife (especially the whales!), the mountains, the shops, the food & the people! The next time that we visit, we want to see some bears!

Best time to see lots of road system bears feeding on pink salmon is from August 20th thru September. Been enjoying them here for 50 years and I never get tired of watching them.🙂

@@glbaker5595 Hi Glbaker.... I started as a dishwasher and finished as a cook at the Sheffield House back then. A nice wealthy man named Jack Johnson from oregon bought it and it is now part of the Best Western chain of Hotels. He also built a big 3 storie set of Suite rooms just a stone throw toward town and he bought the building where Jack Mann sold cars and motorcycles and turned it into a Convention Center. He built a Big Beautiful house on a hill in Bells Flats and the Last I heard was that he either gave All his Kodiak Holdings to his Daughter and her Husband or They are Running everything for him. He brought a lot of Vision and Good to Kodiak. Too many people found out about Kodiak and now it's one of the Most expensive places to live in Alaska and we just became #1 in the state with the Highest rent prices. I have lived here for 60 years and can barely afford to live here. If it wasn't for the Beauty of the Island and the Awesome Bear's and Salmon I would have Left. I also drove school Bus on the Chiniak run...lol🙂

I fished in Kodiak 1969 - 1970, missed the moon landing and missed Woodstock. Kodiak was moe than a fair trade. I saw the miraculous sunset on the occasion of Father Herman's canonization. My boat had just blown a crankshaft and I got a tow into town. The sea was like oil, and the sky was psychedelic, if anyone remembers that. ... The Polar Bear Cafe, gas 45 cents/55 gallon drum. I caught the biggest inshore halibut in 1970, 311 lbs... but that was then !
