It’s pretty interesting. They have a curved diamond at the north end(Google earth it!). Maybe if they start shipping salt some day I’ll get video of them crossing it.
Fantastic footage both ground but especially the air were there are so many different size and shape buildings at almost boggles the mind. I like the way they have to sneak along and avoid the traffic and they're certainly are not many towns left like this with old twisting right of ways so close to the water. The port of Milwaukee is pretty generic but still is more open and some of the buildings likewise date back to the 50s. Unfortunately I wasn't taking photos but I walked two spur lines in Port Washington WI a tone that is now Yuppieized. One was a private line that carried the Interurban but also served the power plant and the other was C&NW which really meandered had side of the street running and ended at a huge sharefactory and when it burned down in 1967 the line got pulled. Thanks for all the effort you put into this one ask who knows what changes may happen in the next few years
Thanks. Would be quite interesting if Staley’s was still down there instead of another marina. Not sure why Morton stopped shipping by rail but they’ve been running more salt than I’ve seen since I’ve been tracking ships. They’ve loaded 41 ships so far this season.
Unfortunately Morton Salt stopped shipping rail a couple years ago when the company was bought. I wish they could land the place next to Morton or if Morton would wake the hell up and ship by rail again. I’m not sure how this short line survives
Yeah crazy how they’re not shipping by rail or even locally by truck. When I was a kid the line of semis waiting to load was very long. All by ship now. 41 boats loaded so far this season, double what they loaded last year.
Scott you must try Pickeled bills sea food restaurant it’s amazing i used to live around that area and In the summer mentor headlands beach is the best way to enjoy Lake Erie
I see a lot of negative reviews on the local Facebook groups so we’ve not gone. We do go to Brennan’s occasionally though, they’ve been consistent since I was little.
I’d like to see some pics of the railroad trestle goin across the water back in the day when it was still in use. Where can I find any if any? Great video by the way
Thank you. I’ve seen a few on on Facebook and Flickr. Wayne Cole did a book on this line also that has lots of information and photos. Ghost Rails Lake Branch, its not cheap but it’s a good one. Available on eBay.
We used to live in Madison and I was fortunate to capture the last 4 days running of the FP&E before NS took them over. This was back in 1984. The engineer was from my church so I was able to get a cab ride out to Perry on one of those last days.
Pickle Bills is a tourist trap type restaurant. I hear from many people the food is terrible. Brennan’s on the other side of the track is excellent though!
Well isn't that the coolest little rail spur ever! Nice work Scott!

I did check it out. Cool set up, are they just storing cars up in that small yard these days? @@ScottTaipaleRail

That was real good, thanks. It was good to see that Lighthouse and Harbour again, but I'm sorry that the Salt and Staley traffic and is gone.

Now that was an awesome video, neat seeing that caboose. Unfortunately the CFE caboose disappeared, I can't find it anywhere in Lima.
Be nice to see that caboose again.
Cool video
Neat catch scott. I wouldv'e thought they didn't use those tracks either. Very interesting spurrs out there
Thank you. For a while these tracks had sizable trees growing through them.
Great capture for sure

How long ago was this shot?
Longest train on the line in decades

Wow that’s cool. Did you get any photos? Also do you know if they immediately switch to NS power?
That's a very interesting location. "Chew Mail Pouch Tobacco" Advertising then was to the point 😅
