- Bomber Month concludes with the Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit.
This week, U.S. Air Force Major Nick "Wolf" Anderson and SMSgt Steve Napier join us to discuss the cutting-edge 'Stealth Bomber' and its enigmatic flying-wing design, not just flying but maintaining this complex machine. We discuss capabilities, weapons, even a little on low-observability and tactics. And before wrapping up, the in-development B-21 Raider is introduced.

I heard Santa has traded his reindeer ride for the B-2 for Christmas deliveries. Payload, range, precision and stealth. Sounds exactly like what he needs to do his job.
Fantastic interview as always!
Not fast enough to make it around
In the late 80s I worked with a guy who enlisted in the AF with a 2 year degree in electronics. A couple months after he left 2 DoD types showed up and interviewed everyone in the store concerning him. Years later learned he had been assigned to work with the B-2.
Veteran B-2 Crew Chief. Miss maintaining all the “Spirits”.
I'll bet! Civilian life simply does not compare.
I have 2 questions for you. What are those gullwing doors i see open when it is taxiing on the ground? Also, when its just sitting there, is it hard to start the engines?
Keep them coming Jell-O, these are great podcasts and I always look forward to the next one coming out!
The B-2 is really one of those aircraft you don't hear about everyday...hell,this thing you can't even see or hear(and it's better,at least in my humble opinion,to be seen, not heard)! And this is arguably one of the deadliest aircraft flying right now...the mere fact that this thing can nuke you and you'll never know it was there is just scary...I don't think there's any war machine today that can do such a thing.
Great episode btw!
Mobius Zero thanks, we’re happy you enjoyed it and look forward to bringing more unique aircraft and people out of the shadows!
Wow, another high quality podcast.
Indeed a beast...Have to say the video thumbnail designs are very good...
As always, an awesome episode, thank you for you work Jell-O, this podcast really stands out from the rest.
Thank you, Szalamandra.
Worth saying that the B-2 is really the realization of Jack Northrop's life work. He'd been researching and designing and promoting flying wings his whole life. He made the YB-35 in WW2 and the YB-49 in the early cold war. He had retired from the company by the time of the ATB project but his company knew what it had to do.

It's a beautiful moment
Great episode… love the B2 and learned some new stuff
👍
It was great to include the maintenance chief in this episode. The pride they aircrews share with the maintainers comes out loud and clear, and it's important for younger people considering an career on the enlisted side to see how valuable those jobs are.
Agreed.
Absolutely outstanding! I had a recommendation! After bomber month, when it's back to fighter planes, how about an episode on the Su-30MKI?
Sure. Can you put me in touch with a pilot?
@@FighterPilotPodcast I'm not too sure but I'll try. I can't say for certain though
It's so good to hear about this shadowy plane. I wish you would be able to interview any Russian pilots that flown the SU-33, or any other Russian fighter aircraft. The Russian aircraft are pretty amazing.
please let there be one for the F-117A
Coming out in two days! I'm excited for it, hopefully they can talk a little more about the stealth side of that one since it's a bit older. Especially since the aircraft is retired and China/Russia already got their hands on the wreckage from the shootdown in yugoslavia
Wolf's discussion on small-batch aircraft fleets at 27:00 is so true & important. B-1, B-2, & F-22 all suffer from this. When will the Services & Congress finally learn?
Probably never
I guess we just up taxes to cover the costs of having a lot of billion dollar aircraft. Seems like the Soviet Union tried that.
This was awesome. Well done
Thanks, Jason. 😎
Awesome podcast, late night holiday treat 😉
👍
Love it.
I’m so excited for the B-21
Hope you can hold your breath for a long time!
To me it doesn't look much different from the B-2, but the advancements in material science, production, and all other realms related to building a plane of this caliber would be the stuff of science fiction if you went back in time and showed it to the people that originally drafted/built these planes 30+ years ago.

a year or 2 ago i looked up and saw FOUR!! b2s flying.... all attached to tankers (and their were 1 or 2 more tankers.... so possibly 2 more B2s!!)
.
i actually had a harder time spotting the tankers than i did the B2s
like... they were DIRECTLY overhead.... seeing the "cuts" and angles, which were obvious, made them EASY to ID
Saw B-2 flying very low over head fly by at Indy500, this plane is very unique, unusual, different sound & eye candy.
I believe the B-2 was in the film Broken Arrow as well, with John Travolta and Christian Slater :)
Oh yeah!
they created a prop that resembled the bomber sorta
Steve sounds just like Bill Belichick
Jell-o, the speed you are making podcasts, I don't think I am ever gonna catch up to the latest episodes. Regardless, I don't want to miss all the information on my favorite aircraft.
Pace yourself!
You really drop them this month :D
Merry Christmas everybody!
Underbird Merry Christmas!
@@FighterPilotPodcast
Thank you, Vincent
Over in good, old Germany we are already celebrating (Christmas Eve is the "main" day over here)
Underbird I hear the Christmas markets are fantastic!
@@FighterPilotPodcast
They are, especially in the towns with a medieval city centre!
Altough it may be a challenge to not lose each other in the crowd (especially after consuming sizable amounts of mulled wine) :D
@22:18 - No Jello, we actually just use Snapchat.....we can upload pictures of the target and include text instructions in one message.
It must be very cool to brag that you fly a fighter jet, however, being a B2 jockey must be at another level haha. Awesome video as always Jell-O, happy new year!! 🤙🏼
I wouldn't know but assume you're right, Carlos!
(But I'd rather fly the fighter jet...)
"Latitude" is what you were looking for.
Do you guys do “what if” scenario podcasts? I’m really curious to know if a stealth bomber such as the F-117 or B-2 could blunt a Chinese invasion of Taiwan
If you check out our Podcast channel you will find an audio-only series called "On Future War" that discusses a possible conflict in the Pacific.
Hey , are there a different generation categories of stealth bombers , like we put fighters in 3th, 4th, 5th gen category ,for example ?
Not to my knowledge. There's really only one stealth bomber (for now): the B-2.
@@FighterPilotPodcast but what about f-117
@@7saTZ576 Stealth "fighter", stealth "bomber"... I guess...? (and totally different mission as you will learn on a future episode 😎)
Thank you bby🎉
Truthfully it still amazes me to this day that if you look at a hawk or a falcon's silhouette from the side view in flight a B-2 looks almost exactly like it. Minus the beak and feathers of course 😉.
Take a look at the F-35 and the B-2 again, if you squint a little bit you can see a bird's beak.
FirstDagger very true!
There is a very, very subtle downward curve on the B-2's most forward point. There was an article or podcast I remember from a couple of years ago that talked about how they studied the flight patterns of hawks or falcons to get the shape of the plane just right for flight/aerodynamic purposes.
@@Drummin003 its soo cool !
The B2, fueled by JP-8 and "go pills" of I had to guess.
22:10 that's what email was originally meant for.
If you are into aviation:
Dan Gryder can save YOUR life!
I find it interesting that the B2 has free falling weapons in its standard arsenal. I always thought they'd be more of a last resort thing with the main armament being standoff weapons.
Carpet bombing
@@FighterPilotPodcast obviously very effective, it's just... don't know. it feels weird to have what is basically WW1 tech in such an expensive airplane. Then again, never change a winning team. It's a lot of ordinance on target and cost effective if nothing else.
@@Talon3000 And here's a fun fact: it's actually ordnance, without the "i" (which otherwise makes the word a city law)
@@FighterPilotPodcast ... wow, i never realized that. in my defense, english is my second language :D
GP General Purpose Bombs aka unguided are useful in GPS Denied/Degraded (GPS Jamming environment) ops where JDAMs wouldnt be able to acquire the GPS signal. And if there's weather...LGBs cant be employed through the weather. Just another option.
Yes I am
Damn... Two 30,000 lb bombs.. An airport gets hit with two of them. It would vaporize in an instant.
"A lot of targets we thought we needed nukes to crack" sent chills down my spine. Multiple poor bastards have been vaporized by uncle sam in the middle of the night with nothing they could do about it.
The 30,000 pounder in question is the Massive Ordnance Penatrator.
Happy holidays Jello!
Thanks, same to you, Schwapping!
There's video of 80 JDAMs being dropped from a B-2A over the Utah Test Range, each having its own specific TGT. Every one of them impacted within 1-2m accuracy: ruclips.net/video/KdzJWciha4A/видео.html
Yes i am
The B-2 is cool and all but it can’t do an inflight docking with a 747 to deliver a team of special forces commandos like the F-117 can.....
oh brother
Too funny
How is his call sign not "Llama"?
I came to say this very thing. How does a guy who worked on a Llama farm join the air force as a pilot and NOT get the call sign Llama?
Triple b? know that guy.. G Brandt
Amazing interview, thank you for another great episode!
One question: isn't it 60 degrees bank angle that makes you reach 2 G in a level turn?
ruclips.net/video/uDK5e2nQMBU/видео.html&t=2702
Correct: a level turn at 60 deg AOB requires 2 Gs.
I love the planes so much but on an adult level we have to be careful with how we fund the military industrial complex. In order to get a plane that means you have to convince congress of an enemy. We’ve had a deep history of once we get the plane we have no choice but to go to war and you have to be a mature responsible adult that can separate the emotion of a bad ass jet and human life cost at the same time. I’m actually pretty proud of Russia that they stopped engaging in the military industrial complex activities. Had they continued we would of never had the Cold War end. Because we thought we had to keep building them now China is our biggest threat and we really have no choice but to build new jets because we had poor leadership. It’s so sickening when you’ve lost multiple friends to war

I think what Major Anderson meant at 19:20 was AGM-158 JASSM
I initially thought that he had just revealed a top secret weapon called AGM-157 that the public didnt know about
You’re correct, he meant the JASSM
Orrrr maybe there is an AGM-157 that IS top secret and he didn't make a mistake hmmmmm 🤔😏🤫 lol
Jk 🙃
The most expensive plane ever built. Outrageously expensive.
Farzana Patel it’s definitely pricey, but the capabilities are amazing!
@@FighterPilotPodcast Is the stealth advantage large enough to justify the multi billion $ price tag over a B52 or B1 Lancer?
Farzana Patel depends on the mission that’s tasked, that’s why each has a specific set of criteria it’s designed to meet in the design and development phases.

Does anyone remember the Pakistani engineer who got caught selling the engine technology to China he bought a house in Malibu and cut caught doing it because he bought that house. Google Pakistani B2 engine FBI
It’s disappointing having to pretend the B-2’s low observability is due to coatings and geometry when in reality it’s far beyond that. Probably why Russian and Chinese attempts at stealth have not been anywhere as successful even with espionage. It has been known since the earliest days of radar tracking of reentry vehicles that plasma is excellent at absorbing radar energy. 30 years on and this "flying capacitor" is still alien tech compared to anything in the public domain. An interim starship for a world where certain sciences are suppressed, heavily controlled or forbidden except for those “behind the Green Door” of special projects. Anyone remember that leaked video released by Northrop showing an ionized orange glow discharge to the vapor cone enveloping the craft? Pity almost all details of this vehicle and the technology still haven't been declassified. This includes the brilliant adaption of a flame-jet as an electrostatic generator mimicking a silent reactionless field drive. The thing has enough computation for radar imaging too I believe (synthetic aperture).
Hey Paul, I won’t give any whistleblower names except for a civilian reverse engineering wizard named Dr. Paul LaViolette who was an outsider to unacknowledged special access programs, yet was able to independently develop his own unified system to explain almost all of the effects and phenomena being investigated in the black world. He wrote several books about this. Most people have no idea for example, that the current electrodynamic model we have is flawed and incomplete despite giving us this “amazing” technology. Maxwell’s original equations were written in quaternion (higher topology algebra) describing an open system (non-equilibrium, hidden order/variables) not dissimilar to esoteric/mystery school teachings. His original theory permitted a polarizable vacuum (mass-charge coupling) which is the basis for highly classified electrogravitics technology including hybrid craft like the B-2. It also permits the extraction of free energy from the virtual vacuum flux which is NOT the same as perpetual motion the pseudo-skeptics always use to strawman. This is why objects like the tictacs seen by the US Navy seem to have infinite endurance despite the tremendous energy requirements. Maxwell’s equations kept getting modified and restricted by people like Gibbs, Heaviside, and Hertz to a lesser extent through ideas like symmetrical reguaging using vector notation. Whether or not this was intentional suppression by the Cabal through their “scientific” institutions like the Royal Society (deep links with occult secret societies) I have yet to find evidence for but I wouldn’t be surprised. I’ve realized that most of humanity has truly been treated like coprophilous mushrooms - fed sh*t and always kept in the dark.
