Absolutely microphone use is a must, especially for the audiences that I work for. A tips that was helpful for me - practice at home and record yourself and listen back to it. One of those key phrases is your DJ name, start your sets with "Hey, what's up, this is the one and only DJ MARINKO!" (maybe even drop an air horn or two) everyone in the room is more likely to remember you for it!

You could announce the titles, use instrumental part and breaks, talk to one person in mind but not specific by name, don't swallow the mic technique, look into eyes and ask for response reaction.

Make it a cardinal rule to never say "er...." or "ummm...". Don't mumble or be too casual or laid back. A bit of tension goes a long way. Project your voice at the mic, shouting works too, just make sure you got your levels right.
