Nice pattern, will try this for pike. Good platform for different color flies as well.

Thanks Jon. This is my number one pike fly. And yeah there's lot of room for experimenting with colors Cheers, Michael :0)

Liked the first Nightwatchman and I'm going to like this one.Going to try tying it counterbalanced as I've been tying a few of these lately.

Hi Mike, nice one. That arctic fox looked nice and long, was it tail or body hair? Also you added more as a wing (wasn't in the recipe ;o) that piece looked smaller with shorter hair, was it?
I'm just being observant so I can replicate the pattern with what I have, which is an awesome silver fox tail that's mostly black with some patches of white. Purple and black is great for walleye and pike where I fish (they like blue and silver too).
Duuude! I read an excerpt from your Optic book on Global FF, frickin' amazing! Kudos to your writing skills, your knowledge and that awesome collection :ol ] jaw dropping! It brought me back to the days of hunting for new tackle in the old shops and magazines. That delta reel looked like futuristic sci-fi and how did that freaky magnetic bobber "launcher" thing work? I've done that with old surface plugs, hooks removed, to cast small jigs or flies. They even had short fly lines that you tied to your spinning line so you could cast flies. Those were fun times.
    Cheers man, thanks again!

Hi Joe, You are observant, my friend :0) And you are right. I use fox tail hair for the long fibres - and body hair, for the short stuff. Partly just because I wanna spare the longest hair for the situations where they are needed badly ;0) Silver fox hair will do nicely... no doubt.
Thanks a lot for the kind words on my Optic Fly book. I am a sucker for all things '50's and ´60's. Whether it's fishing tackle, guitars, cars... some of the best designs were made in that era. The funky Delta and the magnetic bobber were not classic design, but they were fun. The Delta is the heaviest fly reel I own, even though most of my reels are old and heavy ;0) The float worked like a charm... and still does actually. you just secure the hook to the magnet during cast, and it releases on impact with the water.
And you are right; Those were fun times. Cheers my friend :0)

@@MichaelJensensAngling yeah I thought that was your intent on the hair. I was born in the early 50's so a lot of that stuff was ingrained in my mind... especially those garage pinup calendars! ;o)
