  • @HobieH3
    @HobieH3 7 часов назад +14

    "Scotch tape" typically refers to the clear type that would be in a dispenser on your desk or come with a little disposable dispenser. Packing or packaging tape is the wide kind that that might be in a roller hand dispenser ("tape gun"). Hi, Lucy! Like the pigtails. And you could do an ASMR crocheting video.

    We probably call it packing tape.
    Scotch tape is narrower, cheaper, and not as strong. It's more for arts and crafts, or taping a note to a Christmas present.
    Packing tape is what you use to tape up boxes and other packages, and I can tell you from experience that the type of packaging those swords are in is almost certainly done with packing tape.

    The wide kind of clear tape we usually just call packaging tape or packing tape. Scotch tape is the thin not very sticky stuff you use to seal up Christmas present wrapping.

  • @mtgAzim
    @mtgAzim 3 часа назад +1

    Scotch tape is used here, or for the thin, clear stuff, we also call it "packing" tape, because it's usually used
    on boxes for postage.

    Btw your pronunciation of coupe-choux is perfect in places I wouldn't expect, except the first "c" is a "k" sound, which is not the mistake I would most expect an Englishman to make.

    On the topic of antiques that would be interesting to acquire and feature on the channel. I think there would be a large (or diverse at least) audience for nation specific swords of interest outside of the usual British and French staples. Like I recall a Swedish saber you showed recently that generated a lot of discussion from Swedes in the comments as well as a Bavarian saber that was quite interesting.
    I think swords from less dominant or shorter lived countries (as far as the sword market goes at least) would be incredibly interesting for both your general audience and would be a large draw for people from that region or with a connection to it.

    A longer time ago, in german weapons magazine Deutsches Waffenjournal there was an article about weapons of Royal Saxon Finance officials. Bladed weapons had been used by every saxon finance officer, wirh exeption of Hilfsbeamte/ auxillary officials. In Germany use of police/ security forces sabers ended in 1935, but in Austria last old policemen ended saber use in 1951. There is an 1950 austrian comedy movie, showing an elderly policeman with pistol and saber.

    The Prussian sabre I recognized straight away because it's pretty much the same design of the Dutch 1912 apart from the "ears" on the grip.
    The second one I thought it was a French infantry glaive from the hilt, although the blade really looked like a hunting dagger.
    And while it should not be the first adjective of which one would think when describing a weapon, that Scottish artillery sword is really cute.

    So let's see my guesses!
    1: I'm guessing a cavalry broadsword or sabre. Something late 18th to mid 19th century.
    Close but no cigar XD. Out of curiosity, how does the 95 handle compared to the 97?
    2: My guess is a hunting sword.
    Ha! I didn't even know the Land Transport Corps was a thing. But I wasn't too far off my guess I suppose, the purpose is similar enough.
    3: I guess a late 19th or early 20th century fencing sabre. Oh! Brass knuckle-bow. Pretty compact one too, so maybe something Infantry hangar adjacent?
    That's really cool! I'd never heard of Picket-Weight before. On a practical note I'd misjudged the length of it, and the guard looked narrower at first.
    4: Getting my guess in at the last moment. Prussian Infantry sabre.
    That's my closest yet, and it's a bit of a cheat as I'd put in my other guesses before they were fully unwrapped. But I did recognize that stirrup guard from images of other Prussian swords
    5: That hilt is terribly familiar. I'm guessing a mid 19th century British Light-Cavalry sabre, but I'm not certain.
    I would never have guessed Canadian Artillery. It's a beauty though!
    6: I have no guess for this one
    Ah! Very interesting
    7: Oh that is gorgeous!
    The symbol there looked a bit like an anchor to me. So maybe the owner was involved in shipping?

We have two official languages and we are currently members of the Commonwealth of Nations which arose after the Empire dissolved. I am "Anglo," and an "Anglophile," partially bi-lingual and, indeed, the British influence is still strong in Canada however we did learn to drive on the correct side of the road. Cheers!
