  • [From "Kovacs Corner" on RUclips.com] - In a short but absolutely memorable scene in the Bob Hope and Bing Crosby 1962 comedy "Road to Hong Kong", Peter Sellers presents a masterful bit as a Hindu doctor examining Bob after suffering a crash. Listen for the short laugh from Bob as Sellers, as always, ad-libbed. Take note of the Kovacs gag with Sellers flicking away the bug on the eye chart during his musical flute performance.

They still had it. Add Sellers and you got a gem of a scene.

"Could you possibly be my mother?"
"Well, we're not sure you even had one."
Sellers was just on the brink of real stardom when he appeared in his movie--this scene is a real highlight in the film--thanks for sharing it!

R.I.P. Bing Crosby (1903-1977), Peter Sellers (1925-1980) and Bob Hope (1903-2003).

"You're suffering from a severe attack of teeth." Utterly hilarious and pure Goon Show. So very sadly missed.

2:50 - "Underwater inflatable bust of Yogi Berra?" Okay, THAT cracked me up; not just because of the image itself, but because also because of the line delivery by a masterful Sellars!

Watch his lips; that line was dubbed. That or his accent got in the way.

He even said Llanfairpwyll perfectly ! His Welsh accent in ' Only Two Can Play' was spot on.

Bob Hope and Bing Crosby had the longest part in this movie, while Sellers had the shortest.
Yet they looked like two amateurs getting a masterclass in comedy from Sellers

Had this been done a year or two later Crosby would have asked Sellers if he knew any Henry Mancini songs he could play. ;) "Well there is one about a pink pussycat I'm rather fond of......"

It is if Peter Sellers is trying out Hrundi V Bakshi, the part he would play in The Party in 1968.
“Will you get on with the therapy?” “No, but i”ll tell you what i am gonna do; i will get on with the therapy.” 😂

    Did Sellers just pronounce Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch?

I can only hazard an ignorant guess as to how much of Peter Sellers' dialogue was improvised, but listen to what he says at 2:28 a few times. It's a contraction of a Welsh place name and I'm fairly certain we hear the full place name in dialogue between Jane Fonda and David Hemmings in Barbarella. An inside joke?

I love the road movies, but they were a little old by this time. Bob was 59, and i believe bing was 58. Still quite funny.

In my opinion, Peter Sellers was already an established (at least in the UK) comic "star". Before 1962, he was one of the crooks in the original "Ladykillers" with Alec Guinness (1955), played 3 roles, including the Queen!, in "The Mouse That Roared" (1959), and is the hilarious union steward who rewrites the Communist Manifesto, in "I'm All Right, Jack" (1959). In the same year of "Road to Hong Kong", he also appeared in Kubrick's "Lolita" and "Waltz of the "Toreadors". All top quality performances/films.
