Yeah, people forget her big breakout role was Grease 2 when she was 19. Whatever else can be said about that movie- and good lord, there's a lot - Michelle took every song they gave her and just tore it up. It just occurred to me she would make an incredible Audrey from Little Shop.

Never thought about it until now. Besides, It's been 8 years since I last saw this movie. Hairspray and Tangled are equally good movies about girl power.
The early 1960s version of "nice" which is more focused on appealing to mainstream standards of morality and propriety rather than genuinely being kind and a good person.
Old comment yeah, but my husband and I were taking about how brilliant Nicest Kids in town is. You see that these aren’t the nicest kids in town, what with all the bumping and shoving and the fact that Link flat out drops Amber. Sure maybe he didn’t do it on purpose, but you’d think he’d be a little more careful especially since he’s dating her
Remember his lyrics once I was selfish fool who never understood never look inside myself though on outside I look good then we met and u made me the man I am today
It says in the novel that it was love at first sight for link and tracy in hairspray but he probably had to seen to sing along to keep on the show but he's going to be bump into her in detention dancing it also says that link wanted to watch Tracy dance in the novel of hairspray for this movie
Mother, Sign of a true movie star. When they're on the screen you're unable to look away. I'm that way with Elvis, Ethel Merman, Marilyn, Natalie Wood and James Dean. And Michelle in this wonderful clip.
Actually the 5 sweater part was only in the original 1988 film version. If Penny did audition along with Tracy, she could actually be in even more trouble with her mom than she already was now.
Amber’s character is so Tragic, in this number especially you can see her and her mothers relationship all out on the table, Her mother clearly made her feel bad about herself and projected her aspirations and self image problems onto Amber, you can clearly see the resentment from Amber in the eye rolls and the snide comments about her mothers outdated world views, and how they contrast with her own vindictive personality how she spreads rumor and is mean to other girls because that’s clearly what her mother did to her, and watching them both engaging in it throughout the song you can see that Amber reflects this and teams up with her mother because her mother did it to her so much that she eventually figured out that the best way to keep her mother off of her back was too engage with her mother in gossip and slandering of other women
Amber is mean as hell and she knows it, but I feel for her. Though the story is kinda different, in the 1988 movie is possible to see that Velma was adamant about Amber success, even willing to detonate a bomb should her daughter lose a contest. Besides Amber wasn't allowed to properly rest at home, being compelled to practice her dancing moves to perfection (one that she'd probably never reach anyway) not stopping even if her father was speaking with her. And they spoiled her so much, my god... Clothes, a car, exaggerated compliments... By the end of the movie we can clearly see her throwing a tantrum in that noisy and uncontrolled way that a kid does. I don't remember much about the original movie, but it seems that the Von Tussles weren't as rich as they are in the version of the story that we have now and they were kind of relying on Amber winning the contest to gain sponsors and so on. Either way, the girl was carrying her parents burdens.
I didn't notice that! But i did notice that at the end she accepts that shr lost and tried to dancr with one of seaweed's friend. That moment made me realise she isn't that bad.

Always loved the meanest ones in movies, they have more charism and most of the time more talent. Hairspray proved me that I wasn’t wrong. Always loved Amber ( and not because we’ve got the same name but because it’s snow ) but most importantly MICHELLE IS STUNNING AND SO TALENTED IN THIS. My favorite song of the movie by far
"Amber, that move is far too dirty." 1) She was doing the dance she choreographed. 2) She constantly brags about screwing the judges, how is doing a "dirty" dance worse?
Wow Michelle Pheiffer, what a singing voice you have. I never knew until I saw this movie. A little bit removed from Dangerous Minds isn't it!! I actually like this version of Hairspray better than the original!

Crabs.
You can laugh, but life's a test.
Don't do this, don't do that! Remember- Mother knows best.
For the crown's in the vault
From when I won Miss Baltimore
Crabs.
Those poor runner-ups might still hold some grudges.
They padded their cups, but I screwed the judges.
Those broads thought they'd win
If a plate they would spin in their dance.
Ha! Not a chance!
Oh, I hit the stage, batons ablaze!
While belting Aida and preparing souffles!
But that triple somersault
Is how I clinched Miss Baltimore
Crabs!
No desserts for Miss Baltimore
Crabs.
If I wasn't Miss Baltimore Crabs.
First impressions can be tough and when I saw you, I knew it.
If your size weren't enough, your last answer just blew it.
And so, my dear, so short and stout,
You'll never be in, so we're kicking you out!
With your form and your face, oh, but it isn't your fault.
You're just down with a case of Miss
Baltimore Crabs!
'Cause I am Miss Baltimore
Crabs!
Crabs, crabs, crabs!
Miss a
Baltimore çrabs
I love villian songs SO MUCH!!!
I love Penny's unbreakable optimism, "I think they secretly liked you!" Hahahaha!
Didn't realize she screwed the judges when I was 8.
They did a good job on making Michelle look younger. 😁
Michelle Pfeiffer is such a fabulous actress. I love this so much. Makes me laugh. Everytime I see it. Miss Baltimore crabs is a witch. 😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆 🤣 😂
most glamorous way to be rejected
The costuming for this movie is so good (and the cast i adore) 100/10
Just reading the comments to make sure they are all about how STUNNING Michelle Pfiffer is!!
This was my favorite song of the whole movie✨😭
I remember belting this out as a kid and my dad telling me not to sing the "but I screwed the judges" line...now i get it lmaooo
I like when Zac said Amber there's no need to be cruel
Brigid Lancaster whatever
How rude
Brigid Lancaster You
Pam Knight Right? I was like YOU GO BRO TELL HER DAMN STRAIGHT
Yeah that's OK but he still sang with them when they were kicking Tracy out
I love miss baltimore crabs
omg same
same x
There are some great numbers in Hairspray, but the musicianship of this one always stands out. The style of the brass is flawless.
"Amber, that move is far too dirty."
1) She was doing the dance she choreographed.
2) She constantly brags about screwing the judges, how is doing a "dirty" dance worse?
Ten bucks says her husband didn't father Amber
I always wonder what that move is.
It’s about appearance to look a certain but behave differently in private
I used to Not Have Words for that flashback scene but now I feel reminded of Chicago the musical!😂
Wow Michelle Pheiffer, what a singing voice you have. I never knew until I saw this movie. A little bit removed from Dangerous Minds isn't it!! I actually like this version of Hairspray better than the original!
0:33 "amber look at this motley crew"
*Tracey standing there smiling*
What happened to " The Nicest Kids In Town"?
They call themselves the "nicest kids in town" because they dance on a show that's hard to get into and they are cooler than most of the kids
Yep but they might want to work on being nice!
if zac wanted to keep his job he had to do what he did
Starkid
kay harris dw 😉
I love how her voice sounds when she says "but I screw the judges" I keep replaying
1:20 - 1:30 i’ve been addicted to this whole dance sequence since i was 5.
The dance in the beginning is so fun to do lol
