@@im._anne9526 The only advice I can give is don't get discouraged. Oboe wasn't my first instrument, but I struggled at the start because of the few different fingerings. The reed is the most important thing to keep in mind. It's hard to keep in tune and get a good sound. Clip it down to make it sharper and shave the tip to make it flat. There is a reason why oboe is labeled as one of the hardest instruments to play, and it's because of the reed. I still get discouraged from it, but you have to have determination. That said, if you can afford it, private lessons would also really help. I took private lessons through my college, and they helped a lot. I hope this was helpful for you. And I hope you can power through it. 😄😉
my aunt has been playing the oboe for over 30 years and i've already been playing for almost a month now, but i only had her show me the C scale, etc. as i pick up instruments quite quickly, i mostly self taught from there, only using fingering charts when needed, not really feeling like i needed anything else, which technically i didn't, but after watching this video i feel like i'm going to be able to progress much quicker with all the tips and advice!! thanks so much :)
I bet you don't sound as great as you think. Like this guy who thinks he is a great singer: ruclips.net/video/uRiYtW1KRdo/видео.html Go get feedback on your playing from someone who isn't related to you and be humbled.
that moment when youre on youtube watching things like this in your band class because you're the only oboe player in the entire class and the teachers only played like twice-
Researching what instrument to learn... Wanted to say that this is a really good video and I am shocked it doesn't have more views and likes.. I wish I had him to teach me the oboe..
Hey, man thanks for making this video i just found out today i hade oboe in year five band (i'm the only one in band that has oboe) sadly i did not get to take it home BUT! i thought getting some hot tips from a good player would be useful. so anyway thank you and i hope i get better at it in the future.
As I see the clarinet in the background, do you also play a clarinet as well? I ask, because I play a clarinet and I am going to start playing an oboe too. I am going to play both oboe and clarinet.
My brother has Ben playing 30 years and I never thought much about it tell mom was telling me he's buying new oboe and sounds like no big deal tell she told me how much he is paying he has some expensive instruments he plays oboe professional and he also plays gatars and other horns and stuff I love some of his gatars
Bubble Tea is there a really big difference between clarinet and oboe? I might want to switch to oboe part time but not if the learning curve between the two is too big.
@@connorfrithsen2213 Well oboe is like if a clarinet and a flute had a baby. It's mostly a clarinet like body but with a flute's fingering. That's the reason I switched personally because I didn't need to relearn most of the notes
A comment for you from another oboist. Beginning oboe students are not going to spend $15 on a gold staple from you know who, who Happens to be the finest oboe repairman that I’ve ever known, and does upkeep on my oboe.. So if you’re talking about a student inserting a reed with a cork into the Oboe, then use a cork staple for your demonstration. I have had to provide students with reeds I’ve made, And one actually did not have the cork greased well enough on the reeds cork when they withdrew the reed by the thread which removed the reed from the staple. So the student must learn how to remove the reed by using the cork, That has been properly greased for the size of the receptacle on a particular oboe which can vary slightly from oboe to oboe.
What’s the difference between a bassoon and an oboe?
The bassoon burns longer
😂
What is that supposed to mean
for shame
Gabe Welch i play bassoon lmao
You said it wrong. It’s why is the bassoon more useful then the oboe. If you’re gonna copy it, do it right
Thank you for the advice. I've been playing oboe for a little over 2 months now. I'm always learning something new.
Do you still play?
@@im._anne9526 Oh definitely! I play oboe in my community band. I enjoy it so much.
@@RoseCadenza that’s good. I just stared and it’s kinda difficult right now. Any tips I might need?

My favorite orchestral instrument. The Oboe D'Amore and Cor Anglais are wonderful, too.

that moment when youre on youtube watching things like this in your band class because you're the only oboe player in the entire class and the teachers only played like twice-
Step 1. Try
Step 2. Get angry about how bad you are.
Step 3. Cry because it is too hard for you.
What r u talking about only losers cry

I have been playing the oboe for over 2 years now and I can tell everyone here that’s the oboe can be very difficult but it’s worth it

I'm here from Liz to Aoi Tori. A side-story movie from the series Hibike! Euphonium.
As an amateur pianist, I've always envied musicians who can carry their instrument from place to place with just one hand.

Is it easier when you have only played the oboe and nothing else?
Thought that was Dwight Shrute from the thumbnail
yeah i’ve been playing it for 2 years and it’s still hard i’m in 8th grade tho😔
