Minnesota electric grid at ‘high risk’ of power shortages, latest assessment says

- The Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), the organization responsible for reliable power transmission across Minnesota and all or part of 14 other states and Manitoba, operates the grid in the lone area listed as "high risk" in the 2024 report.
Maybe don't shut down all the coal fired plants in the state without a backup plan.
CALIFORNIA OF THE NORTH
Then you keep some open until there's enough for what is needed. This is like a no-brainer.
our current electrical grid policy is based on the fact that private utilities operate the grid so its not as simple as the state just doing it themselves so the transition is based on various quotas, incentives, and regulation that must be met. What we need to do is to mandate more grid stabilization.
They are so stupid in this state I can't even believe what I'm hearing. Get a brain. Get rid of this clown government trying to ruin this sate so we can move on!
@@armedfarm3429 I know I voted republican locally this last election, it was completely to spite Walz just as my vote for Kamala was to spite Trump. The only candidate I really voted for because I liked her was Angie Craig because her opponent released drugs doers onto the streets where Angie has been tough on crime even bucking Biden on the border.
When wishful thinking fails, wish harder.
So, maybe get rid if that stupid plan, then?
Nah, then you can't virtue signal to all the leftists. Look at Canada, this will get a lot worse
I think what we need is a new nuclear plant with a couple reactors to stabilize the grid.
Were supposed to sit here with no new power plants and expect all those solar panels and windmills to work when we all know very well it wont. Build new plants NOW. FFS people, this is a no brainer.
When they tell you not to worry, get worrying. This winter is shaping up to really suck.
You know what would solve this....more government spending on bike lanes instead of basic infrastructure.
You’re kidding ?
As the number of electric cars continue to increase. The problem will only get worse.
Electric cars are not the problem (they mostly charge at night and actually can help balance the grid), it's the Data centers that will increase the load exponentially, similar to what AC did in the 70"s and 80"s.
Pretty simple. Lift the nuclear ban and replace coal plants with nuclear. 80 percent of the jobs are directly transferrable and you don't need to build an insane amount of energy storage.
Let me know when I need to run a generator 24/7 to power my house because the Democrats are going to make it really expensive and dangerous to live in Minnesota
been considering installing a backup power source. Guess this info helps make that decision.
Now let's all plug in our electric cars
This happens in every Democratic city. Nothing like endless virtue signaling in the state of MN
The state is becoming more red
@@Adam-s3w7d not fast enough 🔴
@@gooser__43 than tell you friends to move here.
@Adam-s3w7d they gave up and moved to other B1G states, and one went to the SEC.
Strange no new nuclear plants are being built
Maybe stop subsidizing crypto mining like our coop does
Data centers. Am I right?
Data centers and crypto mining have increased our power demand to levels that were not foreseen 10 years ago.
Also data centers get a discount on electricity because they use so much of it but the additional infastute needed to supply the power gets passed on to everyone else.
What happened to all the windmills
Failed lol
Most people know what the experts know. We are becoming like California.
Lol! Liberal logic: Cut down supply, while also increasing the demand. This will end well for citizens...
The worst thing for this process to green energy is to create shortages. Then support vanishes but they can't help themselves.
It’s tough to watch this young newscaster go wayyyy over the top with trying to sound like a seasoned professional. Cringe to the extreme!
This needs to be corrected fast.
We need a stronger GOP in MN to change this issue. Dem idealism is not the way.
Guess you’ll believe any industry front group so long as it aligns with your ideology.
No. No more GOP people who, if you are lucky, do nothing and if you are unlucky, actively support the progressives. Stand back and bunker down, let nature takes it's course. A whole lot of blue and purple won't make it through a bad storm, much less a winter. Demographics can change in a season as they dig out the roads full of stiffs in their EV's.
Tax EV charging stations for the grid and require secondary meters for anything above level 1 charging installed in homes keep coal and natural gas online while investing in nuclear power. I would expect nothing less with Elmer Fudd as our Governor.
Gaslighting and #2 The profits keep getting invested in Jet airplanes for executives to fly around and BIGLEY bounous. All Excel customers will be paying a bigger maintenance fee to replace power poles soon and Excel just might ask for assistance from the federal government to do this and if Excel gets it the executives will give themselves an ever bigger bonus just like Wall Street did in 2008
What!?! I’m shocked!! The little box in the wall doesn’t magically produce electricity!?!?!
Typical democrat thinking
Not surprised. MN is known to never think ahead
NSP used to say power was penny cheap. That's when there were no windmills and solar panels. The monthly power bill is outrageous now and they want to close down traditional-reliable energy sources for unreliable-"renewable" energy. Where's the government discussions and media coverage of these topics and not just "we must reduce CO2". And what about the unproven benefit(s) of the government push/mandates for EV's. Where's the discussion about the unknown/unmeasurable strain on providing affordable/reliable power.
Known for years and still went down the same path. This is why the Fed govt was designed to have limited power. Keep the decisions local. All fed money comes with strings.
Why was Sherco and all the other coal plants? Shear stupidity.
It's probably because they want more subsidy from the taxpayers, then they can raise our rates again and again and again. Maybe we invested in that eye sore wind energy that sucks.
Ya don't say.. Wasn't ol Timmy just singing the praises of the green effort in MN and how much they've accomplished?
hydro-power has not even been tapped in minnesota.
Been saying this for years
2000 wind turbine at a cost of 3billion will fix it right???.....lmao
Just an excuse to raise rates again.
WTF?!
Walzanomics
Walz told us we need to expect “ black outs “. Can’t get dumber than that but Walz takes it as a challenge
Yeah it'll be real short in power when THEY SHUT IT OFF.
😂😂😂😂😂
😅
Renewable energy will not be enough to sustain us dream as well face it
ASSES!
Yep brain dead from the waist up. Our government needs a complete overhaul before it's to late, I'm not making this up folks. We have people in office that are so dumb they can't run a lemonade stand.
Wouldn’t it be better to concentrate on continuing to make coal clean burning?
these types of announcements remind me of the little goof telling the world that the sky is falling !
