  • This is a tutorial on how to accomplish an unpoppable shepherd's back carry with a woven babywrap. This carry is tied off with a Rapunzel finish and can be completed using a base size wrap or a base plus one. I used a 5.1m or size 7 handwoven wrap made by Wickedly Warped. The fiber blend is 100% tencel and hand-dyed directly by the weaver. Thank you for watching my tutorial on how to wrap with this fancy finish!
Wrap on, mommas! Wear all the babies!

There is also another way, which I personally prefer and perceive as safer and easier... I've heard it referred to as "the superman grasp" because you have the baby sit or stand on something (car seat, bed, bench, table...) with the upper rail of the sling on their shoulders, grab them and the sling by the shoulders with your arms crossed and bring them to your back as if the baby+sling was a cape. It's as hard to write as it easy to do.

Question, I’m brand new to all this. Where is the middle marker in this type of carry?

One question I had while watching your tutorial was that since today it is a very hot day, when you use a woven baby wrap, do you feel uncomfortably warm, or does this make any difference at all. Thanks!

Great question! Warmer weather means dressing in lighter clothing and less layers. I also only use two passes over baby which keeps them cooler. The fiber type and thickness of the wrap can make a difference, as well, but the wrap I used here is all tencel which is more breathable than others. Overall, babywearing with a woven is completely possible in warmer climates. Thanks for watching!

With the second pass going under legs, doesn't it tend to ride up under the seat?? Especially with the first pass being a cross pass? I usually go over legs with a bunched pass for this exact reason.

Thank you for the observation! You can definitely cross the second pass
over the legs and end up with the same results. The trick to going under
is making sure you are tight with your passes and that you check for
knee to knee placement of each rail. As long as you are constantly
tightening then you should have little to no movement of your rails and
      tails. I hope this helps!
