I've had many different guitars with the most $$ was a Suhr. Sold my Les Paul standard and Fender American Strat HHS on Craigslist and bought a floor demo ESP LTD MH 1001 (active EMGs for metal, $635), new Harley Benton Fusion-II HSH Roasted FNT (to replace the bluesy strat sound, $375) and a Harley Benton TE-90 QM HH Trans Blue (bc it is gorgeous and feels like silk in my hands, $212) and still had $1000 left over. Couldn't be happier! IMO the day of the $1000+ guitar is over for the non-professional musician.

A few years ago I sold my 1975 Gibson Les Paul Standard. It was a nice sounding guitar but I was having issues with the weight as it weighed a bit over 11 lbs.and my back is not like it was when I was 19 years old. Since then I have been looking for something to replace it. After watching a bunch of reviews I decided to go for a Harley Benton SC 450 Plus. I paid about $185 total including shipping. When it arrived I had to adjust the neck just a bit for my taste. The intonation was spot on. I really love this guitar. It plays beautifully and sound great through my Marshall DSL40C.

I'm 53, so, something at that price reminds me of the old Hondo II, where you could drive a truck under the action, the frets ends could be used as a weapon and you could drop the tuning down a whole step just by shifting the neck up and down in the neck pocket. That guitar looks and sounds like a wicked cool deal.

After months of research, I requested the Strat version on the 6th of Mar. like yesterday, their paperwork follow up is great.
The body is not the hardest wood but the Les Pauls have a maple cap. which makes a big difference.
    Thumbs Up, to that!
My biggest concern in Alternate Brands is Fret size and quality!! I guess we'll see.
But guys, swapping out electronics, nut and machine heads will be worth it.

I just ordered 6 guitars, 6 gig bags 6 guitar straps and 6 10ft cables and the shipping is the same as for just one guitar. In my case It's $34.02. So my point is that if you buy more than one guitar you bring the total cost down by whatever the percentage of the shipping cost is. I ordered two Strat copy guitars, two lp style two PRS copies and all the accessories that I mentioned including one that has a bundle with a small amp a gig bag, strap, stand, tuner and picks entire cost under 900$.

Hey man! Great video here. After I watched and listened, I ended up pulling the trigger on this one. Originally I was enticed by a lp jr style guitar, but I can probably get the same sound out of the bridge p90.
These guitars are really in the ballpark of a good dinner at a nice restaurant. When this arrives I'll have 3 harley Bentons. I'm all about the value in these instruments. Many are fine as is, but for not a lot of cake, you can make them fantastic. My first HB was a top loading tele copy. New Wilkinson tuners and swapped out the ceramic magnet pickups for alnico single coils (with orange drop capacitor) and shes a beast!!
Thanks for sharing! Peace and grooviness from RI!

Harley Benton really has come a long way. A friend of mine ordered one about 15 years ago and asked me to set it up for him. And is was a total piece of Junk. A piece of wood where you would hammer a nail into and wind the strings around would have been better. Nowadays the 200€ Harley Bentons easily outperform the 600-800$ Epiphones and Squiers. Last time I was at Thomann i was really impressed with the Quality for that cheap of a price.

    • @peterschmidt9942
      @peterschmidt9942 6 лет назад +7

I wouldn't say they out perform an Epiphone, only because they generally have finish flaws in them. I don't tend to see that on Epi's. But at 1/3 of the price of an Epi, you can't go too wrong. Just wish they'd change that bloody headstock on the LP/SGs!

    • @tomrabbani

Peter Schmidt A finish flaw is not a performance problem!!!

    • @tomrabbani

    • @peterschmidt9942
      @peterschmidt9942 6 лет назад +3

Tommy Rabbani - Yes finishing flaws don't affect the play-ability of a guitar, just pointing out that HB has them compared to an Epi. Also, I don't like shitty looking "relic'ed guitars" - To me that's just not looking after your gear. For the price - HB guitars are good value for the most part.

Jimi Hendrix’s first guitar was only $89 in 1958 accounting for inflation, that’s about $900 in 2022. Even a cheap guitar can be a gem in the right hands. I recently purchased one and have been playing for about 25, years not going to say my SC-500 is the best guitar I’ve ever owned, but for about $160 USD shipped to me, it was worth every penny. If I drop it, destroy it, or have it lost or stolen, it won’t hurt as much as my a guitar I spent thousands on. It’s the best “cheap” guitar I’ve ever purchased. Upon arrival I changed the strings, adjusted the action, changed the depth of the pickups to my liking, did some slight sanding on the fret ends so that the neck felt buttery smooth. Even if I would have messed it up (I’m no luthier, but have always worked on my own guitars) I wouldn’t have been mad and taken it as a $200 lesson on how not to mess up my expensive guitars. Anyone not savvy on guitar brands would say you paid tons for a Harley benton. I’m impressed and happy I decided to buy one for myself.

I've been watching this video a whole bunch of times. I had a Gibson Les Paul Jr Deluxe with P90's and absolutely loved the tones coming from my Fender Blues Deluxe Tweed tube amp. The only problem was it wouldn't stay in tune to save its life. That is baseline for me. I also didn't like the quality of the build for example no binding on the neck. I'm not a fan of Gibson quality even on the 2 grand LP's. I knew I had to sell it, and I did, but I have been yearning for that sound ever since. Then along comes this video, and the HB 450SC P90 GT and bingo, I knew I had to have one. I just ordered it. It will be shipped any day now. I'm satisfying my nose pressed on the glass angina by watching your video. I also have the Firefly FF338 that I cherry picked out of 4 of them and love it, but I had to send 3 back. You picked up on the problems of the FF338. You even mentioned that there is something going on there around the second fret. Well I finally figured out what the problem was. The frets were all perfectly aligned, it was the nut that was off. The treble side of the nut was .20 cm closer to the frets than the bass side. So no matter how perfectly it was tuned, and each string was intonated by itself properly, if you played for example a cowboy A chord, it sounded eerily off somehow. Oddly enough the open E sounded out of tune, even though it wasn't. So yeah, off angle nut. The one I kept was almost perfect in that regard but still out .2 or so cm's. Love the guitar for $159 delivered. I'm super psyched to get my P90 trap behind me. Can't wait. Thanks for such great videos.

I love P90 pickups. The usual description is that they "cut through the mix" better than single coils. The also say they're "rude" single coils. They're similar in output to low humbuckers, but they will DEFINITELY hum.
    I still like them.

Just had one of these delivered. Aside from a couple of little imperfections in the finish it's astonishing value for money. It plays just as good as my epiphone and really does sound great.
The only thing I'd say is the tuners aren't the greatest... but that can be remedied quite easily.

I have had one of these with a Mahogany body and Rosewood board for about 5 years and I love it. You make it sound a lot better than I do Steve! I would recommend this model to anyone. It's sister the SC 450+ with hum buckers is sweet as well although I have just swopped the pick ups for Vansons PAF with alnico 5 magnets, wow, it really rivals my Gibson LP custom now! Welcome Steve but sad to see Pixxy go.

Surprisingly I had never heard of these before this video! Thanks Steve. I'm now going to buy one of their SC Customs - £180, FREE delivery to the UK. Mahogany body, set neck, AAAA maple top, roseacer fingerboard (thermally treated maple apparently), Wilkinson vintage alnicos, Grovers and graphite nut - the spec goes on and on! It looks like a cross between an ESP and a PRS and the honeyburst finish is stunning.. What's not to like? Cheapest guitar (by far) that I'll have bought since 1979 - that was a five year old CMI SG Custom ripoff which I still have!

Not sure if mentioned, but bears repeating, the $36.87 (current rate) shipping cost is a flat rate to the USA for any order that weighs up to 68 pounds (31kg), so you can buy 3 or 4 guitars (or whatever) and the shipping will still be $36.87. Just to see, I put two Harley Benton Les Pauls and one of the Harley Benton Thomann 1X12 cabinets in the cart and it was still only $36.87 to ship.

I had this exact model and have just sold it,have to say that your software is doing a fine job on those pickups and it obviously helps that you've got the fingers in spades Bro, I couldn't keep the thing in tune which is why I sold it but for the money you'd be hard pushed to get a better guitar and you can always upgrade the tuners and pickups.

I wouldn't hold much faith in their quality control. They sell the flawed stuff as B stock, but their "normal" stock has flaws as well, just not as evident. But at under $300 for a guitar, I'm not going to complain that much. I'd say it's at least more consistent than buying off Aliexpress...like Forest say's "You never know what you're gonna get"

I ordered a Harley Benton CST-24 HB (hollow body) for $222.00 that was damaged in transit (which may be why it took 34 days to arrive, the replacement took 14 days. Germany to California) and Thomann was awesome in getting me the new one as quickly as possible, great customer service. I love the guitar, but a couple of things, both of them arrived with the intonation sharp on all six strings and the string height too high (for my liking) I could get he string height to 1.5mm on the 6th string on the damaged one but only 2mm on the high E string, on the replacement on the high E was at 2mm and the tailpiece was as far down as it could go already on that side, on the low E string I could get to 1.75mm but no lower. The neck didn't need adjusting. Other then that the guitar looks and plays and sounds great. I'm looking forward to getting other Harley Bentons soon.

This is a wonderful guitar. P90's are wonderful, great overtones mellowness and grit, all I want. Humbuckers unfortunately cancels out some of the nice harmonics that really, everyone should want.. people just seems to want as much volume as possible.. but you lose dynamics.. the younger generatikn seldom understand these implications. I love P90's.
On a last note - Thomann has excellent customer service

Outstanding and hold their own against my Mexi Fenders. The HB 450 holds its own against my Epi LP Standards. Rondo has a brand Agile that is a little cut above HB - Korean made. I have two of their LP Standard style (one is metallic chartreuse with P-90's). Highly recommended though a little more $$ than HB.

I bought one of this model last year. Of my now four Harley Bentons this was the best out of the box and the cheapest of the four too. Just a little fret end smoothing and she was good to go.
My first Harley Benton was the HB35Plus which is now beautiful but needed stoning to get down to Michigan factory specs.
I've since bought the DC-Custom Cherry (SG Type) and the SC-450Plus with humbuckers. All now sweet after a little set-up and fettling.
One of the best ways into having a bit of variety in your guitar tones without selling a kidney.

Hey Steve, I have 2 HB guitars and they are as good if not better than the Epiphone/Squier guitars they are pitched against. I live in the UK and HB are really popular. Looking at your Gold Top, you can see why. The price is ridiculous for the quality you get. Love your channel btw. \m/

Polyesters are widely used as a finish on high-quality wood products such as guitars, pianos and vehicle/yacht interiors. Thixotropic properties of spray-applicable polyesters make them ideal for use on open-grain timbers, as they can quickly fill wood grain, with a high-build film thickness per coat. Cured polyesters can be sanded and polished to a high-gloss, durable finish..........From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Those P90's sound great! That might be the best Harley Benton I've heard. Must be your amp? Or, maybe the player?

P90s are a lot of fun. Keep playing for a while and these will grow on you. Use the volume and tone knobs too, P90s do a better job than humbuckers when you turn down the guitar volume when running a full gain amp.

I remember those scarf joint failures, they were caused by not having the scarf angle set right and not using the right glue, they also probably didn't let the glue cure long enough either. My first job was as a wood worker and when done right a glued joint is easily stronger than the wood on either of the joint.

Yeah, I dove in to check out the Harley Benton FUSION ll HSH FNT, never tried this company before but so many are raving that I had to try...
I am a fender Stratocaster guy and also have a L.P. but when I saw that they offered a lefty FUSION, I had to go for it, I mean, 24 stainless steel frets, toasted flame Canadian hard maple, staggered tuning lock keys, roller string tree etc... is enough to turn my head al least...
    Can't wait to receive it!!!
Use to live in California basically all my life, now live in Spain, and yeah, Thomann is pretty active here!
Let's face the facts, for the money you can't beat it anyway else...
I could never compare a 400 euro guitar with a 3.000 euro guitar, there IS, and always be a difference, but what matters is what feels good in your hands, and if the sound is there for YOU! The rest is history...
I will say this, Thomann/Harley Benton will make it's presence in the market no doubt.
Even IF you decide to upgrade some things on a Harley, in the end it's what ever blows your skirt up, just do it...
Most importantly, just spend more time playing a damn guitar, than fiddling with it!!! Right?

The guitar has a great sound but it ships overseas. For the price you would think it would be a trashy First Act guitar you would find at Wal-mart. But this guitar has the sound to be grateful for. So far this is the best video I've seen on Harley Benton.

Harley Benton guitars are the best deal on the market imo. They have every type of guitar you would want. Great quality well built plays and sound great I own 2 and will be buying more. I like how P90s sound. The shipping from Germany can be iffy damage does occur in shipment but their customer service comes through.

I got a Harley Benton CST-24 (Paul Reed Smith Custom 24 copy) and it's stunning. Plays & sounds great too. The guitar actually got lost in shipping so Thomann sent me a replacement which wasn't as nice (sharp fret-ends, intonation off, string buzzing). But 5 months after I placed the order, that original guitar miraculously showed up, so I got two guitars for the price of one! I sold the replacement to Guitar Center for $160 and got a nice molded hardshell case, a set of strings, and some cash back!

I've had the HB p90n goldtop for about a month now, it was $177 us, shipped from Germany to Kentucky. Mine is more coppery looking than gold, but everybody that has seen it comments on how cool the copper color is, LOL. It sounds great, though, and was pretty much flawless. only issue I had was the selector switch was broken when it arrived, but Thomann sent me another one within two weeks.

From Leo: Thanks for playing some clean so we can hear the guitar basic sound. I have a couple of Harley Bentons, one was $160 shipped and one was $220 shipped. They are very good. I have a friend that got a $79 one and it was a little rough but playable. In a day when a fake book costs $50 and used pedals sell for over $100, how can you go wrong?

Reading up on black wood i was kinda surprised. Its got purplish hues to it and is said to be a very stable wood. They also say it can have metallic type tones to it?. Very hard to work with too. Even prized in some places. For a $130 cant really complain right. Could always upgrade the hardware if you were so inclined. Rock on Steve!

Have one (amongst several HBs) change the nut, setup and as for playability and sound it can't be beat at the price point, the down side for this particular model for me was the two tone knobs (go from open to totally shut) and the finish near the PUs cavities (which has absolutely no effect on the sound or playability) other than that it's working every weekend, stays in tune great and keeps my mind free from worry when it comes to scratches and dings.

My Harley Benton cost twice that at €248. Its called SC-550 Paradise Amber Flame. I changed the stock Wilkinson tuners too Hipshot Grip-lock Tuners. That's the only mod i did. It comes with AAAA Flame Maple vaneer, bone nut, tuneomatic bridge and I like the Wilkinson pickups but may change them in future. Some of the Harley Bentons come with Grover tuners. Look at the specs carefully before buying to get exactly what you want.

Thomann,s harley benton brand also makes pedals, pedal boards, amps, wires everything at super low prices that are great. Look up their guitar cabs with Vintage 30 speakers that cost less than the speakers alone and up to 3 items for 30 bucks shipping! Yeah 3 guitars for 30 bucks shipping. combine orders with friends.

I dig these cheaper guitar reviews, Have you checked out any of the newer Yamaha Pacifica stuff? They do a really cool 'hot rod' style strat with one Seymour Duncan P rail pickup and a toggle switch that goes between different modes of the pickup, a Wilkinson trem and locking tuners the lot, you should check it out!
