Dr House - While on a trip to Israel I was fortunate enough to see the trees and Russian bunker.
We heard the story of this great man. There is also a statue of his wife facing Syria looking for her husband to come home.
The various stories Ive heard so far do not contain all the details as told by our Jewish guide. I prefer to believe his rendition of events.
God has blessed me greatly as this is one of my favorite memories of my trip.

I never heard it was named "shallal", but there was such a project aimed at diverting the Jordan's water away from the Sea of Galilee. The ditch dug in The Golan Heights is still there.
Unlike what is said in the show, Israel has other water resources and is not that much dependent on the lake for water.

The headwater diversion plan was a real thing, approved by the Arab League in 1964 and a causal factor in the 1967 war. If you tour the prewar border between Israel and Syria you can see how it was supposed to have worked, though it would have been hugely difficult and subject to airstrikes (which is what happened).

As an Israeli I grew up on Eli Cohen movies, heard former Mossad speaking on him as a child, when taken by school to trips and etc, and read alot about him. One in every few years there is a big Israeli documentary on him. Here in Israel he's nothing short than a national hero. The TV show however, regardless of that, is nothing short of a crime. First, the thesis that Soviet experts caught him is, according to Mossad, an urban legend. It's true that they were sreaching for one, but this is not the case. What expose Eli were few messages that he sent to Israel- and only him and few high ranked officials in Syria knew (like the results of a vote within the Ba'ath party) - the Israeli goverment broadcasted this info before Syria made it official. Deducation of this information led eventually to the understanding that Eli is the one that work for Israel. The "Arab" part is fictitious as well, Eli didn't feel this way. There wasn't a women in the team that operated Eli. I didn't watch the show, just mostly from what you spoilered here. Also, I don't understand why Baron-Cohen was chosen, he doesn't speak Hebrew or Arabic and the standard today is that for quality show (e.g., Narcos) you speak in the original language in which events took place. I watched~ 20 minutes of the first episode and found it highly unreliable in describing Israeli society of the early 60's as I know it from movies that were made back then and from many people who lived then. This is the third great Mossad story that Gideon Raff absolutly destroyed by mixing facts and fiction, by making characther very shalow, by adding unnecessary effects. When you hear the stroies from the people who actually lived them- they are greater than life, when Gideon Raff producing them- they are ruined.

After hundreds of years wouldnt you want to have a state for Jews where you could have full rights and not just "tolerated"?

@@MrPickledede still playing the victim, i see. If that is the case then why did other jews choose to remain in many muslim nations and continue to live there even up until now? Zionist right wingers claim jews are persecuted to garner further sympathy and support and for animosity to spread towards muslim. Even in iran a country which is demonised there are jews still living there happily. And the hatred for jews is due to themselves being sneaky and sly. The only ones who i felt sorry for are the small percentage who had to flee syria and iraq because of terrorists supported by the US, israel, gulf arabs and their other allies.

There are couple of things which are not accurate though. For example, there was no syrian embassy in argentina around that time, in fact there were non at all. cohen didnt have a damascene accent - he always covered his accent with the excuse of being a expat/foreigner. also, there was no position as minister of defense, this position in the ranks of syria didnt exist back then. there are rumors that he should ve gotten the state sec position but these are only rumors - eventhough more likely than a non existent rank. also hafez claims he didnt know him. hafez also claims that when he got caught, he realised that he is from egypt, bc of his accent - he said something like the islamic mosque, and thats a thing that only egyptians say. there are a lot of fillers and not real happenings in this series, but it is good. i enjoyed it alot and watched it twice. real good actors, everything was nice. obviously it wasnt filmed in syria - it was filmed in morocco...so the details didnt match as well. afterall would recommend

Sacha was very cartoonish, he actually made some tense scenes look like comedy. Srsly. That was really bad.
