  • Scientists just received the first test images from the new space telescope Euclid. Euclid was launched on July 1st by the European Space Agency, and it’s on a six-year mission to try to understand one of the biggest unresolved problems in physics: dark matter and dark energy.

      I've seen a scientist on some Documentary recently, I wish I could remember the exact one, but he said that the theory of everything will likely never be a short easy buttoned up complete equation like E=MC² because he said they're starting to fully realize there's a distinct probability that the laws of Physics realistically likely fluctuate and are not the same everywhere. Other star systems could and probably do have all sorts of variables that could be completely different from place to place, and if we try to have one rule to blanket everything it wouldn't work.
      I'm probably messing up exactly how it was explained but that was the gist of it.

    • @DeShark88
      @DeShark88 11 месяцев назад +6

      @@jeffsales6836while I think that's possible, a theory of everything would explain and predict the variables that are changing as well as why they're changing and what impacts can change them.
      It's possible that gravity is locally weak in our surroundings and stronger elsewhere, but there should be some reason why that is.

      I don't think you realize how fragile a civilization as a concept is. One asteroid, one dramtic enough climate change event, one viral / bacterial outbreak, one strong enough solar flare that hits, one gamma ray burst pointed at the planet, one genetic mutation that makes the species infertile and a million other things and say bye bye to civilization. The 'great filter' is civs don't last for long enough to find each other out there or to even develop the tech needed to cross and survive the vast distances that stand between them. Even if they reach that point, the dangers of space travel are so great that they likely wouldn't get far even if they did set out for such a voyage.

      @@itzflaymegd8018 how long can a civilization last until it meets a civilization equal or more advanced than itself. On the premise that civilization that can travel and colonized space is rare meaning in that sort of expansion and no contact of other advance species or intelligent life. Can that civilization survive without collapsing from itself or regressing due to economic, socio political or even biological factors? With that said isn’t another form of evolution or as we call it a “filter” for which future civilization will discover these remnants or backward civilizations without connecting with them.

      Maybe, but my biggest fears are that it comes at a cost of nutritional value. Like real meat is more than just protein. It’s also loaded with different minerals, biochemicals, and some vitamins that no genetically engineered “meat” can provide. Plus, farming and ranching is not the primary source of greenhouse gases. Statistically, it’s heating and electric production, manufacturing processes, then car traffic, as the largest contributors to greenhouse gases, so perhaps we should focus more on making manufacturing cleaner.

Making it on an industrial scale affordably might be a different matter, I don’t know, but I don’t see any obstacles in the way of artificial products being better than natural ones nutritionally. Just targeting the very biggest contributors isn’t enough, instead of removing all cars from all roads we can remove a lot of cars, and make up for the ones left by cutting emissions in other areas, for example. The more we cut the better. Do the stats on agricultural emissions include the massive biodiversity losses due to rampant land clearing?
