Interview with Ezra Furman

There's something extremely endearing about Chicago native Ezra Furman. It took me a while to pin down exactly what it was, but once I realized which qualities made him this way, it all made sense. As I set up for my interview with him during his latest stop through Toronto, Furman quietly looked around the room while scoping out his surroundings, but would look over and smile every few moments. I noticed he didn't have his make-up on. Funny enough, he shortly after asked me if it was okay for him to apply some to look pretty for the camera. I of course said yes. A few minutes later, he walked back over for the interview, sat down, and the camera started rolling.
The thing that makes Furman charming is his character -- he's brave when it comes to his music and sexuality; he cares about people, but doesn't care what you think about him; he seems naturally vulnerable, yet can go on stage to perform a fun, memorable show; and he's a complete role model for those who are afraid to be themselves, but will learn to be.
