What a difference! Mr. A. If you remember when we were kids they said if there is smoke there is power. That was far from true. Black smoke means burnt dollars. Oh just watching that NINE reminds me of that Colorado incident. Let's hope the city administration folks at Pocatello don't piss you off! Thanks for the video Spud. Carlo
when I was working in the oilfield Sidney Montana had a siren that would go off at noon and 10:00 Pm to let the kid's know that it was curfew. it would also go off to let the volunteer fire department and EMS know that there's a fire or accident and to head in to the fire station. thumbs up on the video!
Thank you Jpaydirt. We have a noon whistle in Cumberland. Thanks for the shout out. I am a subscriber to Banks channel the video you are talking about i have watched very good information. There is alot less smoke pouring out of the stack on the D9. Another BLM job you must have done something right, way to go Jeff. I will wait for next video when ever it gets posted. Stay safe.
Jeff, thanks for the update on the switchblade! I have been tinkering with a quick spool valve and a split-scroll on my old 6.5, and have been playing with a couple different exhaust housings and setting up the control-side of the valve. It works similarly to the switchblade (concept-wise) just in a different manner. Coincidentally, you and I must both subscribe to BanksPower, because I just watched that video a couple weeks ago! I could listen to Gale for hours, he definitely explains things in a way that makes sense, there is a reason the guy is a legend. Everyone thinks I am wasting my time, but I am after it for all the same reasons that you explained, I want the quick spool and torque-rise along with a less-sooty exhaust, yet have the ability to have the valve open the housing up once manifold pressure is satisfied to reduce exhaust back pressure (lower temps and better economy). When I get it dialed in I will have my cake and be eating it too. As always, thanks for the videos Jeff!
Noon whistles are cool. Our local news crews always seem to migrate to a small town event and air a report right at noon. I know they don't think about it cuz they cringe when it comes on right as they're yacking. Thanks for sharing. I leaned to the left every time you were blading into that rock pile.
Thanks for the great video as always, those drone shots are bloody awesome hic...also good to see that awesome hic...switchblade working on that awesome hic...dozer ,and how awesome hic... is trap shooting and awesome hic..to have someone visit with a awesome hic...plane ,cheers mate from down under.
I got so busy marvelling @ Jpay's camera locations I forgot to watch for exhaust smoke! That one time I thought those rocks were gonna git the camera; once again great camera angles!
Thank you for the video Jeff, and that lava rock is sure hard on your machine. The switch blade turbo is a vast improvement and you get to save $$$ on your fuel bill win win win !!!! Anyway all the best on your new job , Take Care my friend and catch you next time 😎👍🇬🇧.
Greetings Jpaydirt from Michigan... I've been watching your videos for about a week just binging loving you doing all the maintenance of your equipment yourself. I think it's absolutely wonderful to see the workings of the CAT machinery doing what it's ment to for so long (as long as it's maintained proper). Keep up the great work! Love the Videos.
Loving the videos! You can really tell a difference with that turbo! Keep up the great work. I’m out of Joplin Missouri about 3 hours south of To The Top Crane! Thanks for sharing
Great video Jeff...friggin Canada geese...an old guy once told me them buggers can't shit and fly at the same time so don't be afraid to look up and no need to dive under the 9 !! 😎
Doug...thank you for the commentary on The Blaylock SWITCHBLADE TURBOCHARGER & Questions! Going back to MY original "Spec" statement it should be noted that Class 8 Truck Engines to date using the SWITCHBLADE are 2010 prior mfgr dates. THE VERY ENGINE GROUP...(AND BY FAR THE LARGEST BY THE NUMBERS), needing to compete with newer fleet models for MPG, IMPROVED OPS PERFORMANCE AND SMOKE REDUCTION! Between elements in Govt and "Tree Hugger" types wanting this engine market segment shut down the pressure on small fleets, Kit Manufacturers and Independent Owner Operators is tremendous! Talk about an Anti-Trust Movement! Blaylock IS working on additional testing for measurement of 02's monoxide & particulates count via the exhaust out. Stay Tuned. Basically at this point in time...and in this laymans terms...when you "do some basic math" on the est 70% smoke reduction we are seeing AND the 1.25 to 2.5 MPG across the board increases..from 5 yrs collective data...different bramd engines...one can see the scientific relationship between what was prior to SWITCHBLADE being unburnt fuel vented INSTEAD of maximum combustion and energy conversion USING THE SWITCHBLADE! The SB superior A/Fuel Ratio management providing unheard of Engine Boost Pressure over Engind Back Pressure and virtual ZERO Lag & Spool Up Time...is key to its fuel efficiency, smoke reduction & HP improvements over anything else on the market...or combination uses of various products ALL GEARED FOR MPG up! As for "dimensional" info on turbines & housings...that being a variable and proprietary...and said here, PLEASE...feel free to discuss this with Jim Blaylock at his plant office, the scientist, inventor and company owner behind The SWITCHBLADE. Best Regards, Everett Denny/Blaylock Turbochargers
In Bishop, CA they use a couple of Darley sirens for the fire department placed on either end of town. Every day at noon they sound to signal the time of day and to test their operation. I've seen some people hit the deck when the siren sounds. That's always a giveaway they're out-of-towners and their first time there, haha!
A Wideband air/fuel ratio sensor with its gauge would help you a lot to tune the engine. Also an intercooler would get you a lot of positive results. It's what's Banks saying, density is what you want,if you search to eliminate soot. Injector spray pattern and quality pattern is important too on those huge cylinders.
Can you use one of those in a Diesel engine ? I thought you tuned something sooty and oily like diesels by EGT. Specially one as old as that Dozer. The intercooler it's a great idea.
You can use a wideband gauge with its sensor on whatever uses oxygen and a fuel, even a chimney burning wood. You can use the lambda value, wich is universal, working with all combustibles ,wich indicates to you what oxygen remaining in the exhaust fumes with the value "lambda". www.advanced-power-technologies.com/myimages/lambda_conversion_table.jpg?1416250877 Or you can use the stochiometric value associated with the fuel you are using if you are more used to it. It's the same value produced by the sensor ,but you have the gauge wichmodify the numbers on the display according to the fuel you chose to use. If there is lead in the fuel,or susbstances to wich the sensor is not compatible with, its life is reduced however. In formula 1 there is lead, and all sorts of banned substances in the "consummer's" fuel,so they use a ton of lambda sensors lol one every 20 hours more or less....
I only wish I had the switchblade on the D-9 I ran that was turned up insanely .It had a dedicated 24' U blade shoving limestone and overburden .It would tote a full blade in 2nd , but i didn't run it like that as she would creep up on the pyro quickly . Thank you for the vids , i thoroughly enjoy them .
Thanks for the shout out Jeff!!! You even got my last name right!!!! Got to admit, I got the notification of this video, just hadn't taken the time to check it out... Got a text last night from my friend Caleb at High Valley Trucking, he sent me a screenshot of the white board 😎. As always, another great video!! Thanks Jeff!!
Noon whistle? Want a laugh? I was at the Edgewood Legion today. (about 2 hours from home). It's a very small town in the middle of nowhere. It's that same 2 hour drive each way for them to get their groceries. They have a very large horn on the top of their Legion building to let everyone in town know that it's 4:00 Saturday, and the Legion is open. Once a week for 4 hours. I love small towns.
Hi Jeff this is Joe Crowder out in Oakdale California. Believe it or not we still get the loud horn at 7am and noon. It quit working for a while but it's up and running again. Keep up the great work Jeff I don't have an instagram or Facebook but they still let's me see what your up to.
Company I used to work for as a laborer had old D8H's with straight pipes. They sounded really cool, but I'm sure running one all day took it's toll on many eardrums
Damn missed the whiteboard again LOL Hey Jeff You surprized me the other day with some pretty cool swag, a hat, calendar and some cool stickers, I put a sticker on my PC tower and saw a boost in PC speed and less smoke right away - musta been a switch blade in that sticker- whats that rock your bustin up Lava rock??? Man you get some amazing jobs I'm really impressed with that switch blade you must already see improved fuel usage along with the less black smoke and more power that thing is an all around winner Thanks for the swag I shall wear it proudly
I cry seeing diesels purposly runnin hard to produce smoke. Nice seeing some people who know its bad. Sure a small puff here and there, but not turning day to night.
Boy that big 9 is a hoss now! I'd say that you are gonna gain about 20 percent efficiency on it and maybe more! 😊 To get on the white board ya need to be from another country huh, well, I'm in Southern Arizona, might as well be in Mexico, does that count.? 😊 Really enjoy your vids, thanks for sharing and take care. 👍 👍
looks like the Cat is smokin less and workin harder, I guess when u quit smokin you catch a second wind. sounds like the engine pics up quick on throttle
In the town that I work in, there is a Bodine casting Factory which does lot of the castings for Toyota engines, and they have a very distinctive and Loud noon whistle that you can hear all over town.
Once again a great video, I look forward to these vids every week. One thing for sure is you can't beat a good old Caterpillar. I always say that the acronym for CAT is Construction Assistive Tools... Stephen Edward Steyn Africa Botswana 🇧🇼

Greetings from Pietermaritzburg South Africa. Try setting air fuel ratio on a D398 in a tug boat. Run from engine room to deck to check smoke from funnel 😅
Wow that works quite well you know it's a damn shame that they have to drag that diesel soot down the cylinder walls back into the crankcase LOL cuz it looks so damn cool black stacking
Good update, huge difference in the smoke. That poor blade on the D9, it'll take 2-3 videos to cover the repair and hard facing of it. Another BLM job? Bring your handgun and some boxes of shot shells, we know how you love those snakes! The illuminated sign looks great. Does that gentleman make them?
Great content 👍. Just wondering where does all the water come from to run something of that size. Looks like that turbo has made quite a difference. Have worked on several Detroit with variable pitch turbos. Used to be with them if you lost a turbo you had to plan a bank robbery to afford to replace it. Thanks for your videos.
Hey Jeff, you have a ton of great videos I watch a few almost every night. Im just started my own business recently and bought a 99 Kenworth w900 since my kids overlook me watching your videos they started calling my KW "Kenny" as well. I'm watching from Elkhorn, Wisconsin.
