Great review. I wanted to see if the level design was the same as the original before buying on Xbox Live. Everything looks exactly as I remember, except for the bosses!
i remember blowing the game to get it to work. Loved this game so much. Got the music from the first stage stuck in my head and I can still recall it. Man, I love the original game and can't wait to play this one.
Awesome review can't wait for part 2. I love this game now and I loved it in 1990 when I got if for free. The multiplayer is awesome, but I wish it was online. I think I played this when I was like 6, and the re-make was so nostalgic. Don't forget to bring your energy "pills"
Every time I listen to the music I'm taken back to my childhood. So many good memories with Bionic commando. I used to stay in a 1st level area with respawning enemies until I had like 6-8 life bars. I used to swing around to the left or right and then in mid-air after the swing back the other way. Just silly dumb fun. The last area in the nes was a tough narrow gap swing over to get to the last boss, I loved the challenge. One of the small handful of games I mastered back then.
I have yet to see ANY glitches during the mission gameplay, multiplayer or singleplayer. But to just give this game even more praise, the gameplay mechanics are so much fun to learn, and mastering them is even funner. This guy demonstrates the basic way to play it, but if you were to see my friend and I do a single round in multiplayer vs... you would understand just how creative and intuitive a player can get with the control mechanics.
well, you can choose where to go when you're on the map screen, freely... go to old missions and get secrets etc.. or go to FSA camps to practice the simulated obstacle courses and stuff..

I think the weight of the arm is the actual reason why Spencer can't jump. They sort of point this out in the new 3D Bionic Commando when they say that the weight of the arm prevents Spencer from staying underwater too long cause he'll sink to the bottom with it.

What I was referring to is more along the lines of Bionic Command: Re-Armed which is an HD remake that keeps all the original gameplay mechanics in tact. "MegaMan - The Wily Wars" did have some rather unwelcome alterations from what I remember.
Capcom just NAILED IT!!! Bionic Commando is my favorite NES game of all time, its a game that is so brilliant in its design and so replayable that its just so awesome, but this game...just...IMPROVES on it! While retaining the awesomeness that the original had as well, this game just blows my mind on so many levels! Its one of my all time favorites!
Thanks for letting me know. Unfortunately I don't follow PSP's game-base since I don't own one and thus I must have missed it. Still though, you got admit that if there was a Megaman 1-6 remake using a graphical similar style like Bionic Commando Re-Armed, that would be pretty darn sweet.
For the record i would like to pint out that super joe had his own game before this.. i don't know if it was on the commando game you mentioned.btw are you a fan of the metal gear series?

I have a half sleeve tattoo, adaptation to the bionic commando arm...It is badazz! 25 hours of work, and about $750 later (great deal by the way), and still I want some more intricate details.
I'll watch your OG Bionic Commando video at a later time, right now I need to try Tennis 2K2 for Dreamcast, and after that, play some Bionic Commando myself, which I've never played, hopefully it will be a very enjoyable experience, it looks that way. Hopefully the gameplay won't turn me off. I'm sure I'm fine either way.

While there isn't a remake of Commando quite yet, we recently got a sequel on XBLA/PSN named Wolf of the Battlefield (which is actually the Japanese name for the original Commando arcade game) and isn't half bad. Personally I'd love a remake or sequel to Captain Commando myself. And like Capconian said, the character's name is Radd Spencer, not Super Joe. The latter was actually the main character in the original Commando and I believe the arcade version of Bionic Commando.
THIS REALLY IS ONE OF THE BEST REMAKES OF AN OLD SCHOOL GAME! I downloaded this game off the PSN in 2008, it is now 2010 and I only LOVE this game even more! If you wanna talk about minor flaws... well the game does have some VERY unusual glitches, like if you get shot by the vector gun while swinging in vs. mode your character will go flying across the level insanely fast bypassing barriers and sometimes even shooting right off the screen. but these glitches are often so ridiculous its funny
Oh and.... 5. Not being able to fall down on a lower platform while your enemies CAN! 6. When you walk into a room and out, not only do the enemies reappear, but also every obstacle. So you have to kill every enemy again with the risk of losing more health and eventually losing another life which is frustrating, cause you've only got so much as THREE!!! I heard there is a patch coming up which will fix most of these issues, but I don't know when and I don't know if it will come out for PC too

It's awesome that Capcom asked a Swedish gaming company to produce a remake AND a sequel to one of their best games. Shame though that Grin closed down last year due to bankruptcy :( RIP GRIN!
Nice review, although I can find alot of ''flaws'' in this game. 1. The bouncing of the wall and getting disconnected 9.00 , sometimes resulting in death 2. The difficulty (you've only got three lives even in Easy mode) 3. Saving is messed up. When you leave the game, you have to replay the whole level again 4. When you die you don't respawn on the last solid ground.

The original game had the same reference in it. Although, the game still references Pi (3.14), its used as the sound "Pee".
Already got Sonic Advance 1-3? I have the 3, and it plays perfectly well. I found the Dreamcast 3D Sonic titles also quite good, although it went a bit downhill from there, and the recent nexgen Sonic game is awful.
why dont you review the new bionic commando game??? i mean im sure its not goin to be as good as this awesomeness we see here because its 3d. besides i would like to see your opinion on that remake
i hope that they will remake revenge of shinobi that is one of my top ten games of all time but i actualy hope that they do a hand drawn art drirection like in oden sphere but either way i do hope the remake it and keep the fun of the original games it would also be cool if they got yuzo to make the music agin
yeah, i did see Sonic advance 3, it looks pretty damn good. the GBA wasnt the best system to put a sonic game on, its not the fastest system. i may be wrong but.... what i would like though is a 3D sonic game which is totally a side scroller.

The beauty of these remakes is that they appeal to the crowd where "graphics are everything" while the solid gameplay mechanics are also left in tact to accommodate everyone else (minus the purists of course :p).
I agree with you there. I used to be a master of the nes version as a kid, swinging around and dangling in death defying grapples and I can't get thru the stupid situations they made.
As cool as the new 8bit Megaman games are, I really wish they'd bring it in to the new generation ala Bionic Commando Rearmed. Personally, I thought Megaman 8 was excellent - I'm amazed that more games weren't released on home consoles in that mould.

I played multiplayer with my friends and holy shit that was fun. It's like Smash Brothers except with Bionic Commandos.
This game looks AMAZING, it's my kind of game. Can't wait to download it!

I love how what Spencer says is kinda reflecting what you might say in response to what the enemies are saying.

This is what I like. Modernized classic games that keep the soul of the original.

Damn, I love that new boss music! Super Joe is also the name of the lead hero in the original Commando so it can get confusing.

They need to keep remaking older games like this while sticking to the basic principles that made the originals so much fun.

This game will work on your PSP w/ remote play. I wish more PSN games would work with Remote Play. But haven this game on the go is kick Ass!!
