Behringer is awesome! I built my son an all Behringer pedal board for the price of one boutique pedal, and he loves it. He uses it every day even. Its got the Hellbabe wah, the Vintage overdrive, the Heavy Metal, Superfuzz, EQ, Noise reducer in 4 cable method, ULTRA Chorus and Delay. You would be amazed at the tones that he can craft. I dont know if they would hold up to giging, but the board has lasted over a year now and its still going strong.
Some do some don't. The wah pedal is not reliable, learned this from personal experience. It's a shame as you can get a lot of different sounds out of it. But it will die on you at some point.
@@mentality-monster I have 6 behringer pedals and they're holding up well so far. 5 of them are less than a year old though. The other one is a distortion I got new about 4 years ago. Never had a single issue with one. We'll see. Probably comes down to how well the user takes care of the pedals. Honestly though they're so cheap that you can get like 5 of them for the price of 1 boss pedal so it's not a big deal if they die after some time.
They’ll last longer then any metal casing.
When humans are gone and boss pedals rust away to nothing there’ll still be Behringer pedals. 😂

@@SymbolicSplenetic False, I owned a Behringer Reverb/Delay from 2009 to 2018, even gig with it and sold it to a friend and the thing worked every single time, now I got another one from that same era and works great.
The tube amp modeler is a Sans Amp clone, the amps are supposed to be a fender, Marshall, and Mesa Boogie.
I have both the original Sansamp GT2 and the TM300. I've compared them extensively and they're actually pretty different. The TM300 has a lot more gain so you can't really get clean sounds out of the British and California settings. Also on the British and California settings the TM300 let's through too much high frequencies. If you roll off everything above 5 or 6 khz and scoop at 800 hz it sounds pretty close to the original. The Tweed setting is actually not bad. It's got more mids and less highs than the original, but you can change that with an EQ in front of it. The Tweed is really the only one that's usable going direct unless you can roll off the highs on the other settings. In front of an amp you might have different results, but I always use it direct.
I've got a Sansamp GT2 that has got some intermittent problems - probably not worth fixing, so the Behringer Tube Amp pedal is looking pretty interesting to me.
I've got that tube amp modeler with the DI built in. I think it's killer. I used it with a little 4 channel PA head and it was really cool. Wide variety of tones. I've done a few things with it DI. I liked it had to tweak it a bit for taste and manageability but was very usable.
Nick, I would consider using a eq pedal before it to roll off those highs, especially if it's gonna be an "always on" situation.
The GDI21 is a DI box they make with the tube amp modeler built in. I got 1 a few years ago for the DI n the basic amp models included are a nice bonus.
Fuzz: My recent understanding from watching and absorbing vids from TPS, JHS, Vertex, etc....only GERMANIUM circuit fuzzes should be placed at the front of the signal chain. Placement of non-germanium fuzzes is less specific and so these can go anywhere you prefer, Yeah, some pedal snobs sneer at Behringer, but there's no question that they can make some great stuff, especially for the money. The original Affordaboard Brand. :)
I’d only push back on this w/ my Fulltone ‘70 bc it’s a silicon fuzz that only really works at the front of my chain because the buffers from other pedals of mine can totally mess with it. I think that’s a thing for most fuzz face type circuits whether they’re germanium or silicon
@@karimabraham6695 Interesting! At the end of the day, one thing I've really learned about all this pedal stuff is that the only rules that truly matter are what sounds good to you and in your rig. Everything is just guidelines and clearly, as you indicated, there are exceptions all over the place. :) Cheers!
Actually, since the Super Fuzz is a clone of the Boss Hyper Fuzz (itself based on the Univox Super Fuzz, but with added active EQ), it's probably got its own buffers on input and output of the pedal (like all Boss pedals), so it doesn't care where it goes. It's an insane fuzz because of the active EQ, but the enclosure and footswitch are too cheap to play out with.
@@alankelly1001 This, the BOSS has its own really good buffers (listen to the boost mode or just use it as a buffer off and it is better than other boss pedals, they over engineered the FZ-2 for some reason), my clone of an actual Univox Super Fuzz doesnt like buffers infront so I tend to use the Hyper Fuzz on my board and like it more for alot of things (a bit thicker bit fuller and has EQ). Definately if you want to play live get the BOSS version, its one of the toughest pedals I own.
Joe Satchton it’s not if it’s germanium or silicon. It depends on the circuit. If you have a buffered fuzz pedal it doesn’t matter. But things like a Fuzz Face has a rather low impedance input. So it interacts with your guitar controls.
The Noise Gate is designed to be used in the four cable method, the send in return is supposed to be in the effects Loop and the gate should be at the very beginning of your pedal chain. It reads the guitar signal directly from the guitar, but it Gates only the effects Loop. The 4 cable method you can keep it turned down low then crank your drive pedals as loud as you want and it will still gate signal no matter how many you turn on at the same time.
It also works when you put noisy pedals in the loop of the gate. That's what I do with my NS2, at least
As far as I can figure out theres a noise detection bit between in and send and the noise reduction bit is between return and out. So you can put noisy pedals in the loop or noisy pedals+amp preamp.
@@davidjameschamberlain it will work that way just fine. But I find it is better to put the drive pedals into the front of the amp with the Noise Gate at the very beginning of your signal chain. That way it is detecting if there is signal coming from the guitar not from a pedal. You put the send and return of the pedal through the effects Loop, with any time-based effects after it so that it is not gating Reverb or delay. With this method you can turn all of your drive pedals wide open as loud as they go and have them all on at the same time and it will still gate the signal with it barely turned on. In my opinion this is the absolute best way to use a Noise Gate with an effects Loop.

You should make a "direct" affordaboard (no amp) using the tweed setting on the TM300 as a clean pedal platform. The Tweed setting sounds better direct than it does in front of an amp. Bonus points if it's all Behringer. I want to make a board like that myself, but I'm still on the fence.

TM300 is actually a SansAmp GT-2 clone, I used to have a clone of it and really, plugged into poweramp it sounds absolutely phenomenal.
So far I've owned the Tube Screamer clone (TO800), The Ultra Chorus (UC200) and Compression Sustainer (CS400) and I have zero complaints about any of them. They all sound fantastic. The only worry I have really is I've heard the switches can be pretty fragile so I'm hoping they don't give out after awhile. To put it in perspective I've owned the more expensive stuff in the past as well. Fulltone, TC Electronic, Electro Harmonix, MXR, etc so I'm no stranger/noob to pedals. Thinking about going for the analog delay next.
Also the Chorus in person does not sound like does in this video (no disrespect 60 Cycle Hum). It's a very lush chorus, great for clean stuff.
I got the ultra chorus a few years ago when I restarted on guitar, then added the compressor sustainer n a few other of their pedals. I still like them all n they still work. I don't do any heavy stompage on mine so haven't had problems with any of mine yet with the oldest I've got being 6 years old.
@@CJ-rf9jm Yeah I had the TO800 for about a year and had no trouble with it. I was never a heavy stomper either, even on metal housed pedals.

I have the vintage delay and love it, one of my fav pedals. Combined with the TO800 it’s sooooo good
Love your content, I wish more people did reviews and videos on affordable gear. I have the vintage overdrive by Behringer and cannot find anything wrong with it. Most bedroom guitar players don't have the cash to drop hundreds of dollars on gear. Brand name doesn't matter to me but function tops the list. Thanks for quality content.

yep... and I CAN'T do it with my Hyper-Fuzz (BOSS) which it sounds recognizably like, so... Behringer continue to impress. I'm 31 years up the tone fascist spout... & I use a couple of them now. Their £20 tubescreamer puts the lie to these £200+ clones that actually aren't as good, spent the whole weekend A/B a whole shop full of 'screamers. Just buy the Behringer. Seriously, I'm not joking. I must say, also; I've had NO interest at all in the distortion/overdrive... but listening to it here... wow. I gotta get one. £20 here in the UK - A Boss would be around a £100. That blend function looks delicious... Defo gonna look to Amazon shortly!

FYI, the tube amp modeler is a clone of the Tech21 Sansamp GT2.
Behringer also makes the GDi21, which is the amp modeler with an xlr out.

I've had probably a half dozen overdrives and the od300 has been my favorite. Turned all the way to od it's such a good sound and the distortion is always there if you need it. It's a sleeper

I just bought a Super Fuzz a few months ago. It’s a great pedal. Initially I didn’t think I’d use the boost setting at all. But it’s comes in great for boosting for solos when the fuzz is too fuzzy.
These used to be affordable. I remember buying these 2 years ago for 25$ ea. New. They are awesome pedals. As I started buying pedals that cost 4-5 times as much, I realized truly how good they were. Everybody was crying about the polymer housing?! Glocks are made out of polymer? Why is that even a concern? I’ve never actually seen anyone show how there’s broke or even seen a broken one! Now they are selling on eBay for 2-4 times the original price. Glad I still have 5 of them. Incredible pedals for 25$ new back a couple years ago. I removed them from my board once I bought more expensive brand name stuff. But they are slowly going back onto my board because they are actually better than some of the “big boys”. Should have grabbed all of them when they were dirt. Good shit.
I have two of the DM3 analog delay clones - maybe my most revelatory pedal, as it was my 2nd or 3rd pedal ever, and it taught me the joy of analog delay (self-oscillation!) and delay that’s NOT tempo synced. I also have the Tube Screamer, the Super Fuzz, and the VB-2 clones. Mine are all fun, and they’re all covered with stickers to make them more aesthetically pleasing. Recently, I almost got a Noise Reducer (maybe to have as a buffered 2-to-1 summer, if that would work), but they’re sold out right now (if you pre-order and can wait possibly for months, you can get any of these that are listed on Sweetwater for cheaper than the second-hand markups). For now, I got an (likely much more useful) EHX Silencer. Lastly, instead of the Ibanez Compressor/Limiter clone, I got the TC Electronic version: Forcefield.
How are you finding the Silencer and the Forcefield? I have actually been looking at both of those :D
Run the Tube Amp Modeller into the effect return of an amp to hear it at its best. Shame they didn't send the EQ 700, as a boost when flat or as a tone shaper it's fantastic.
This time last year I bought several Behringer pedals from Amazon UK for £18-£22 each - they're £35/£36 now. Thanks Josh.
After watching JHS talk of them, I’ve been picking them too. A buddy that owns a music store has said that for me.... I’m “kinda like a cocaine addict that can’t his regular fix, so I’m now sniffing glue” 🙄 Not sure if I should be offended or laugh 😜 (now up to 8)
Nothing wrong with a little glue sniffing 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 but noticed is wrong with behringer pedals... People complain about the plastic casing but unless you drop the people's elbow on them they aren't gonna break...

My first behringer pedal was the Bass EQ. I bought over 4-5 of them to use with my uprights (none broke, but I think they were $19, and I would give them away in Mexico to fellow upright players when on vacation). After 3-4 years of using the pedals, I changed to active pickups so I didn’t need them anymore, but now I think I’m going to get the whole collection for my brother.
I have the super fuzz and ultra vibrato and love both of them. With the super fuzz I frequently use the secret setting and almost always have gain on 0.
The Cuvave fuzz sounds like a transistor fuzz with the bias badly adjusted ("badly" as in not optimal, but not "badly" as in a horrible sound... personally, I like mis-adjuested bias), the "fuzz on the edge of dying" sound (like a Tone Bender mk 2 with the bias screwed with). The Super Fuzz sounds like a Univox Super Fuzz, as that's what it is essentially (the Boss FZ-2 Hyper Fuzz is a Univox Super Fuzz circuit with added buffers around the circuit, like all Boss pedals, and active EQ after the fuzz circuit), which is a combination of transistors and diode clipping (smooth, like a Muff but bigger... ha ha).
The Cuvave fuzz is the best

Love me the Super Fuzz, though. I use that badboy on harmonica all the time. Makes it sound filthy, and even when I don't want filthy, I switch on boost mode.
Behringer stuff is killer for the money. I have the ultra vibrato, which has the same circuit as the boss vibrato, which is about 10 times the price. I also have the compressor sustainer, Which also has the same circuit as the boss pedal. If you watch Josh Scott’s video about Behringer, he explains everything about them.

Superfuzz is easy to mod... 2 dpdt switches and you get:
- Mode 1.5 (in between position of the original slider switch)
- Fuzz with or without octave
I have the two Behringer pedal you did not review... 😭😭😭... I love their Vintage Delay and I'm currently using their compressor sustainer into my JHS Series 3 Reverb, into my Fulltone OCD, into a Caline Ghost Rain Delay. After watching your reviews I will def be upgrading Delay to the Doner Island. Great stuff! Have been following this afford-a-board journey for a while now. Thank you for putting in all the footwork for us budget gear users!
I have the noise reducer. Usually I have both the dials turned right down, and my Proco Rat in the send/return. And yeah it definitely still has a little background noise. I am going to be upgrading to the Boss noise gate when I can afford it
Very Cool Demo/Review Thankyou. I have a Behringer Pedal Board as my Everyday Use at home Board, and love it. Have CS400,PB100,SE200,OD100,HM100,FX100 and VD400. All the Pedals have a great range of useful sounds and are alot of fun for very little money.

Getting stereo from the chorus in my headset... all of those effects sound better with the chorus at the end and stereo effect in the loop. Amazing.
Thanks for affirming my recent purchase of Behringer pedals. I have been playing with the tone/effect settings that work best. The Modeler, Comp/Limiter, and Fuzz might have have to be added to my collection. At $28 each, its a no brainer.
That Fuzz on the in between sounded like heaven. It actually sounded like you were going to play Orion for a second.

The green screamer into the yellow eq, into a micro dark. The poor man's rig
noise gate first after guitar, then fuzz, gain and modulation, then back into the noise gate! Run it as your first and last signal processor before amplifier input! run all your effects except timed effects, through the noise gates effects loop, so that it can tame your signal before your amp and timed based effects. That is the way it was built to run the loop.

Blend dial on fuzz instead of switch would be better for a "blend" knob
I've owned almost 12 Behringer pedals and they are indeed nice pedals. Still own their Vibrato and Phaser pedals on my pedalboard. You should try those ones!

I'm convinced that these pedals sound just as good as the Boss, Ibanez and Maxon counterparts and I've been a Boss user since back in the "ACA" days. And they're probably not going to break either. In fact they will probably look newer longer because there is no paint to chip off.
Your ears are correct because all the analog circuits are nearly identical to their more expensive counterparts. So yeah, they sound just as good.

I have the Overdrive/Distortion pedal. Have owned it for a couple years, to be honest i find it very hard to dial a sound in that I am totally happy with. I am gonna give it to my bud, he'll enjoy it.
I've got the gdi version of the tube amp modeller. Played directly into headphones or a PA it does an amazing job. It might not be an authentic tube amp sound but it's damn close. Ryan is running into tube amps, so you don't get the full effect but take my word for it- totally worth the money into phones.
All the pedals sounded pretty usable and fun. I was thinking it might be good/instructive to have an "Un-affordaboard" to compare Affordaboard pedals to. At $500, I'd put the Blooper on it. You probably have some other expensive pedals that could go there as well.
Noise gate should be first.
Behringer is such a paradoxical company. Like, I would pay an extra 5 [insert denomination of local currency] for a metal box or maybe slightly more robust knobs. Example: their EQ pedals are perfectly good, I got one for my bass on Josh Scott's say-so, I and it's what I wanted... except for the cheap, wobbly sliders. That's something that could probably be mitigated mechanically, you wouldn't even need more expensive parts, you could literally just put a piece of slotted rubber in there to make it more tactile. I guess I'm glad they left room for other cheap brands to compete though.
I own a SF 300, it's a kickass pedal.

I use a noise gate in the effects loop before modulation effects. A lot of Chorus pedals are stereo output for that Leslie effect.
The first two pedals I ever bought were a Boss DS1 and the Behringer Reverb Machine. The clip where the stomp-pedal attaches to the frame broke inside of a month. They sound okay, some very good. But gig live with them at your own risk.
I have the Behringer Compressor Sustainer. Ir's excellent.

I love Behringer pedals, they sound awesome and very affordable, bought a few of them and got rid of all my Boss pedals, the cherry on top of the cake was the Danelectro FAB Metal, I have loved that pedal from day one, it was my very first. You did a great review, I'll just say though that the little pedal there sounded like you was farting, sounded horrible.

Yeah..what is up with the price hike? Is behringer going to discontinue it? ....I know that it, along with the hm300 are usually on back order...but that doesn’t seem enough to cause the hike
D G The Superfuzz was discontinued for a pretty long time but gained a reputation as Doom/Stoner machine. Thus over time the price went up pretty rapidly due to high demand and little availability. Guess that’s why they also revived it now. The HM300 is a different story. Shortly after behringer overtaking TC Electronic, TC releases the eyemaster, a very affordable HM clone with much better visuals and build quality. So the need for a HM300 was no more.
Sort of. The sf300 was never discontinued, it was just sold out consistently for almost a year after JHS made a video comparing it to the boss fz2. It came back in stock at most vendors multiple times throughout that time but kept selling out within a day or not even being available because of people that had already ordered it for as soon as it came back in stock. The eye master is the same gain circuit as the hm300/boss hm2 but without an eq. It only has 2 knobs instead of 4 and is permanently set with both eq knobs on ten. That gives it the famous swedish death metal sound. That sound is almost like a meme/joke at this point. The hm2 is popular in post rock and shoegaze. My bloody valentine used it among others and a lot more of the demand for it is for that use more than the entombed sound. The eye master is useless for that application despite having the same circuit because it is stuck on nasally buzzsaw mode

damn, i really, REALLY want a behringer super fuzz. i have a hyper fuzz of my own that i actually got in a steal of a trade (the person just didnt need it anymore, needed a chorus, and was happy to see it go to someone who was gonna use it, which i do!) but if the Behri sounds good enough i’d like to use it to avoid it getting stolen if i ever get to gig in the future (coronavirus permitting)

AHHH The Super Fuzz my favourite fuzz, well and the BOSS FZ-2 and the Univox Superfuzz.....hahah the family of awesome fuzz! I hope Behringer seeming they are making great synths make more stompboxes, I get that they are flogging them as TC pedlas now that TC is MUSIC tribe, but more BOSS clones would be awesome like the OD-1 and SD-2 and FZ-3 and PH-1r and FET Preamp
For a below-average hobbyist guitarist like me, OD sounded full of possibilities. Suddenly I'm wrong, but it seemed to me that the possibilities of this sound are close to Fat Fuzz? But that could be my mishearing.🙄
Mixing that distortion with the OD sounds pretty decent for $50 worth of pedals

Only one that I'd find useful is the chorus, set low running to 2 amps to just thicken the sound, the kinda thing you don't notice until it's not there.
Also at about the 42 minute mark, it felt like you were about to launch in to a heavy cover of "I'll Make You Happy" by the Easybeats :P

I just noticed your Tele has three humbuckers. That's bold!!! You should deck it out with as many switches and push pulls as you can, ala the red special.
I prefer the heavy metal over the ultra metal. I tried an ultra metal for bass and I had a hard time dialing in the midrange tone. For front pup picking, the heavy distortion works great for me. Those two pedals have the highest demand; they're almost always out of stock everywhere on the web.

For the money you can't beat these paddles! I have 5 different ones . the only one in not a fan of is the fx600 its a digital multi fx . it was like 40 bucks and it has 6 different fx but none of them work as good as there analog stuff. But in a pitch its a good back up . the fuzz is my favorite so far. It has lots of tones ! I never tried the in between yet.
I kind of just want them because instead of a button box its a pedal box if that makes any sense or I just like how it looks

Tube Amp Modeler is a clone of a Sansamp GT-2 (plus XLR, not found on the Sansamp).
Only actual problem I have had with these pedals is the patches don't lock on their own very well cheap jacks. No real issue if you immobilize your pedals.

i have that fuzz after like six pedals and it sounds great.
If you’re not playing out these would be plenty fine. Sturdy enough and sound good.
I think the amp modeler would sound better as a direct to mixing board pedal rather than a pedal for your amp.

I have the fuzz and love it now I want the tube amp one. I have wanted the noise reducer for a while and now I think I will get it. I think you misuse the noise reducer a bit. I want to put on my church board between my strat and everything else.
