I mentioned under an earlier video that I'm building a MFE Fighter myself. This video has got me really excited to continue with my build. That RFL landing at the end was fantastic. Thanks again Ben and @Painless360.
Thank you for putting this series together. I've watched it several times and was able to build, configure and fly the Titan Dynamics Cobra 4 +1. It covered just about every aspect needed. Very informative!!! Keep up the great work. If you haven't looked at Titan Dynamics yet, check them out.. very impressed with their 3D printed models.
My father, had a home made fishing boat with a motor from an old clock. He was beside himself of course, mid 1945. We, have automated rovers on Mars, and home made VTOL's. Hehe! Aren't we the lucky ones🙂 Thanks!
Brilliant. Thank you very much to you and Ben for a fantastically informative series of videos. I can't wait to see what sort of quadplane you are going to build.
my previous homebuilt vtol crashed when I was doing hover test, at that time I did not know much about Qloiter mode or GPS lock and did not assigned any switch in my transmitter. I could not control the plane and it crashed. Although I watched this video series at that time but I should have pay attention closely to these videos to know more about quad plane modes. Now my new vtol is ready to test . Thanks for this video series again for valuable information👍
I've just spent a day trying to mount the VTOL motor booms at an angle on my first build to try and make this feature work nicely.. Lots of new things to figure out..
@@Painless360 Unfortunately I can’t cut bread straight so I’m looking for a kit of some sort. I think 3d printing may be my saviour. Interesting doing something new though.
How can I connect my radiomaster tx16s mkII radio to mission planner on my laptop? Ben seems to have his Herelink connected to the laptop he is using at the 5:10 video point. I am using the RM Bandit 915MHz connected to the Orange Cube Telem2 Port and am receiving data on my Radio from both the Bandit elrs receiver and the Orange Cube sensor peripherals.
@@Painless360 got it. Thanks Lee. This was one of the best technical series I’ve seen on VTOL aircraft. You two really have raised the bar unparalleled within the RC community. Kudos to you both!
Fantastic! I’m building me 2nd vtol which is a 3D printed Tiltrotor AW609. I’m ready for my 2nd hover test, I’ll be testing QLoiter. Very nervous about setting up the transition.
The E400 VTOL aircraft looks really neat. Is there a hobby grade version? Is it possible to build it out of balsa wood/foam and plywood as opposed to carbon graphite?
Amazing videos man, thanks, one question tho, will you be uploading an Advanced series? maybe with a VTOL with just 4 motors and the front 2 motors working for the FW as well, maybe with some mechanism to turn the motors front to be working for the FW.
Absolutely fabulous series Lee. I know this question probably depends on many factors, but how much of a investment are we looking at including the tx Rx, all of it?
I need to to build a few to figure out that out. It is basically the cost of the quad motors and mounts plus an ardupilot capable flight controller. But that depends on the size of the plane, so a couple of hundred on top of the cost of the plane is a rough guess...
I built a vtol with T1 Ranger with Matek 743 wing BN880 gps compass and when for a hover in stabilized mode and when we’ll usin vectoring motor, no servo in the tail, I do have little oscillation but not big, need to drop PID, test QRTL and plane return en close proximity but with in 100 yards ht did I not return, and when flying in top of a line of pines trees 150 ft tall, I when to panic mode and I did what Ben Say NO TO DO, from Qstabilize into Manual mode, and the plane was not trim for manual, so I keep my panic Brain mode and control the plane as much as a I could in the air and switch to FBWA and the plane flew good enough for my to gain so so control and I landed. I wish Pay more attention to Ben I will not be in this big trouble. Lee you need to build the T1 as VTOL is fun. Lots so people are doing it but some videos are incomplete missing key elements, specially for changing the tune in Missions Planner. They are doing the T1 and the Mini drak check the mini Drak as a VTOL and tail sitter is amazing and the T1 Ranger VTOL, a tutorial from you will be amazing. Cheer from Ohio.
A tilt rotor build will be the last one I make. They are, by far, the hardest to setup and tune. These other pilots posting videos need to show more of the process, tips and tricks of how to get it all working.. not just show flight footage without any details... stay tuned!
You can 'covert' almost anything into one's of the many types of VTOL types. I hope that more fixed wing manufacturers start to add options into their designs as standard to make it easier... Happy flying
I am so nervous to maiden my Ranger.... It now has a very tight VTOL modification, I used a different design that uses some bearings, and that drives the servo directly. The first one I was going to use just had too much slop to even attempt. I have everything setup to the point that I have nothing else that I could even look at.... just time to go fly lol.
Great series. I would like to know the all up weight of Ben's plane and what type of battery he is using. He got a lot of hover time out of those batteries!
Thanks for the support and ideas you always help us with, we really enjoy your work. Can you please help me with a Matek-flight controller that support VTOL. Thank you
Thanks for the reply. I saw he was utilizing herelink but what camera and were was it mounted? I couldn't see any camera installed that replicated the view that was on the MP hud.
I must blow the dust off my quadplane (Ranger 1600 plus four 2212-920 lift motors). I don't think the 10 metre prop assist was available when I last worked on it (maybe 2 years ago) and I would certainly like to try it.
There has been a lot of pilots working on VTOL over the past two years and it all seems a lot less 'bleeding' edge now.. Still not without its pitfalls but a fun project to try and build!
@@Painless360 Thanks for the reply! I have to say that it has been one of the more hair-raising projects I have worked on and I still get a certain increase in pulse-rate when I contemplate dragging it out.
Thanks, I've seen that A tilt rotor is the HARDEST VTOL to get flying well. See my comments in the first video.. I am aware that other channels have made one using that and I'd welcome them showing exactly how they setup and tuned Arduplane/Quadplane as well as flight videos ;) Happy flying!
👍🏻 nice… but it would have been nice if it would have been a real maiden. Too ofteb he said: I already changed this and that parameter But looking forward for your build and then we sure get to see your tuning steps 😊
Great demo. Really appreciate the professional walk-thru of the initial test flight process that Ben did.
Many thanks for doing this series.

That 10 meter prop assist is very fancy, keeping the quadplane level 👍

No lidars or sonar used on the model. Happy flying
What control equipment (transmitter) does Ben use?
Things like Herelink for larger builds and FrSky radios for smaller ones. Happy flying!
