    Hi man.. I'm a complete beginner so I'm gonna ask maybe a stupid question.. How did you drill those 2 holes on a jig perfectly vertical? Also how did you insert those piece of pipe so they fit snugly and not wobbling? Lastly how would you drill a second row of dog holes? So before laughing can you please answer..
    I'm planing to build the top of the workbench by gluing 2x8 together and leveling them with a router sled jig (that I haven't built yet of course)..
    MDF and plywood are extremely expensive here in EU. And since I have to earn some money soon from my woodworking, buying a an 1" plywood to build a work bench is out of the question..

    Flat galvanized steel mounting plates have holes at regular intervals and can be a guide for the pilot holes.

    How thick of a table top do you need for dog holes to work? My table top is only 1 1/2 inch. Would that be thick enough?

    Hi nice idea! What size is your auger bit?

      Jaime Genova jr 3/4 inch!

      @@TheTranq
      If the pipe is 3/4 inch (on the outside) how can the bit is 3/4 too (that runs on the inside of the pipe)?

      @ You have to try to find one with 3/4” ID. I ended up cutting a piece off an adapter

    how as the MDF held up with the dog holes?

    • @TheTranq
      @TheTranq  2 года назад +1

      The dog holes have gotten worse because the MDF is too weak for excessive force with hold fasts. I would recommended and hardwood top. My next bench will have a hardwood top for sure.

      @@TheTranq that’s what I was afraid of. You think 3/4 birch would hold up better? Or are you just going for straight up hardwood

      soaking the holes with CA or titebond thinned a bit would give a greater working life, though i agree, hardwood beats mdf every time. Beech usually has an even better price to performance ratio. Preparing to build a bench myself too

    Can I use PVC with 3/4 Inch Inner Diameter?

    • @TheTranq
      @TheTranq  2 года назад

      I think that would work!

      @@TheTranq awesome thank you, in I was worried that the bit might eat through the PVC and damage my workbench.
