    I pray Flirta D is given an opportunity to make commercial money, now that Grime is worldwide. D Double E has got the IKEA advert, I mean if the Swiss thought let's get some Grime on our Company to have wide appeal! The obvious for Flirta would be voice overs, cartoons, video games, animation, movies... Hollywood! Just hoping for the one who kept fully true to Grime, he will end up cashing in the most! 🙏🏽

    This has been really interesting, I never heard of grime. It reminds me of when I did research for my own curiosity, on Detroit Techno, also because I have a strong emotional connection with Detroit and it's history. Underground rave scenes in the UK always seems pretty wild though, and I loved Jungle.

      You hit the nail on the head man. I'd say the best comparison for how grime started is how juke morphed into footwork for the dancers by becoming darker and more syncopated.

    • @idontwantahandlethough
      @idontwantahandlethough 2 года назад +1

      Likewise! I looked into it speciically because this docu was so well done! It's not particularly my kind of music (although I think I will be using it for working out, genre seems perfect for that), I still had a blast watching this. I guess that speaks to Timbah's talent; it's pretty difficult to keep somebody's attention for an hour (especially mine) while speaking about something they couldn't care less about!
      I love getting a glimpse into worlds and cultures I previously didn't even know existed, it's so interesting!

The love you bring to it reminds me of how hard I fell in love with late 90s progressive trance and house music some decade+ after its golden age (even though it's a completely different genre). Anyways, top tier video and I hope Flirta D gets his flowers from this video. Generally one of the most unique and charismatic guys to come from the grime scene. Don't forget the influence of Jamaican reggae dancehall on grime mc's. General Levy ofcourse was originally a dancehall artist before getting commercial success with jungle hits. But other artists come to mind that were creative with delivery and use of voice and rhythmic style like Pompidou with his synthesizer/rockstone voice, Daddy Freddy using as many syllables between words, before him fast chat dj's like Peter Metro, Tippa Irie, Smiley Culture & more, or the weird screechy noises of Major Mackeral, and I can't find the right example now but I'm sure that hundred male reggae artists did a female line in their lyrics in tunes in the 80's. In general the use of eccentric noises or trademark slurs, that grime mc's have to let you know it's them, really comes from reggae dancehall. The context was quite similar that you had a session with a whole bunch of mc's and you had to fight for the mic and stick out (pompidou even refers to this in his lyrics, that he had to change his style, cause an other mc pirate him style). I guess I could go on for some time, and you could trace this back way more in to the Soundsystem culture and talking over records in Jamaica starting in the 50's/60's. I should make a video about it ;-) Anyway, thanks for the vid, enjoyed it a bunch!

Listen to his tunes and sets from radio is great and always blow my mind but if you ever get lucky enough to hear him MC in person in a rave he will blow your mind. You just get sucked in and so gassed. Usually in a rave people can't follow deep lyrics anyway so that's not important but all the mad noises just captures people instantly. You don't have to hear every word of it for it to make sense, it's just an energy.

    Heyo, thanks for this, I liked this a lot. I, as others, came to your channel via your political vids thanks to *the algorithm*, but also I'm a big grime and dub step fan so these music ones have been a real treat. I also heard you got a shout out on the Decoding the Gurus podcast a while back so that piqued my interest in returning to your channel
    I did want to note that when you mentioned Australia, that maybe it was an Alex Jones tune/video that you spliced in but that's actually Scotty Hinds that's rhyming in the clip. So, I don't know if that matters but I'm just a "well, actually" type of person so I do apologise for that. Shout out to Fraksha for absolutely holding down the entire scene in Oz.
    I was heaps pumped to hear you invoke the mighty Trim, since I'm a massively cringe stan of his. He's a bit of an enigma and I'm eternally curious about his various beefs and alliances so if it would interest you to make a video about him and his history it would serve me, personally, a very great deal.
    In closing I would like to observe tradition by noting how underrated Ghetts is, an opinion seemingly invalidated by the sheer volume of persons incessantly expressing it in youtube comments. Righto, carry on then. Thanks again.
