Lego Botanicals has to be one of Lego's BEST ranges to date. It fits within Lego's ethos perfectly and I think Ole Kirk Christiansen would have loved them too. Such a great idea.
Two points: - There will be other similar sized sets in the near future: a resized Orchid and a pot with Bamboo shoots/leaves. I'm not an expert but I have read that the four of them represent the four iconic plants for the four seasons (in Asian culture). - I don't agree with your assessment that these are worse than some other botanical sets on a price per piece ratio. The pieces here are in general quite a bit bigger. And some other botanicals sets suffer from artificial piece inflation, because they have a large amount of very small pieces making up a single flower, or even large amounts of pieces that get dumped in the vase as "soil". Price per weight is probably a better ratio anyway than price per piece.
@@TiagoCatarino Hi Tiago, thanks for the reaction. Mind you, my points are not intended as criticism of your review(s) per se, because after all, price per piece is a widely used criterium for determining value (I also use it). But price per weight is generally more relevant. (On price per piece, that horrible world map (zero building experience) scores highly... yeah, right...) And especially for these botanical sets, I feel that it makes a big difference if a set includes several hundred 1x1 studs as soil (I am talking to you, Bonsai!) or not. So that skews the comparison. Other than that, I appreciate, enjoy and value your reviews (with their touch of humor).
Didn't take it as criticism in a negative way don't worry! I do appreciate valid and respectful criticism such as yours! One can only dream people were as nice as you were. It isn't a perfect metric, I'm aware, and I do always mention it in context with sets with super large pieces, lots of very small ones(Art) cloth sails, moulded dinosaurs and similar stuff that completely skews the metric to unfair levels when comparing them to "regular" LEGO sets using "regular" pieces. With these botanicals given the mix of small and large pieces and no IPs, PPP seems an accurate way of measuring these being slightly overpriced!
2 upcoming sets you mentioned look pretty bland tbh, especially the small orchid version is jagged and one dimensional. I'd say the original full size orchid looks better in every single way. Well you get what you pay for. I'm not saying these small ones are bad or anything, but you really need to have at least a few of them to compliment each other.
The price range makes a lot of sense. I was talking with an old grandma about Lego sets made for adults, I showed her the Orchid set, and she took enough of an interest to buy it. She came by the next week for some customer service, since she thought she was missing a bag (which was stuck at the bottom of the box). I was amazed by the whole thing, since I wasn't even trying to sell her on the set. If she puts that one together, there's no doubt in my mind she'd buy these sets as well.
I have the bonsai tree (I built the pink version) as well as the chrysanthemum and the orchid, Lego botanical line is definitely one of my favorites from Lego in a long time. The unique pieces used and the fun building techniques I love
I wasn't sure about these at first and put off purchasing for a while, then decided to just purchase both of these as well as the tiny plants, and honestly so glad I got them both they are absolutely geautiful. I can't wait for the lucky bamboo and mini orchid to be released. The Botanical collection is one of the best lines that LEGO have created in a long time. Love your videos.
I really like the decorative LEGO sets. The Botanicals series is absolutely awesome. I'm only missing the Tiny Plants, the Poinsettia, and the new Wreath at the moment. I also love the Lunar New Year Display from last year.
Glad these will make great gifts for your family members! I tried to get my wife into Lego by giving her the orchid set, but it didn’t work! At least the Lego orchids look pretty in our dining room, and we don’t have to remember to water them.
I got both immediately when they were released several months ago. They're just so stunning and elegant! I was only able to display the Chrysanthemum for several weeks for summer, before autumn came and I swapped to the Plum Blossom.
From the logo on the box i believe those set are based on the 4 plants represent 4 seasons in eastern cultures, hence the base have eastern woodwork vibe
Hi Tiago, Maybe good to mention that especially these sets many times are priced off to 25 or even 20 bucks. With thát price they are even more worth it. I always like when you mention this in your reviews, because it gives more credit to the sets as they are really beautiful, but the high tier status LEGO has, sometimes comes with a sense of a bit to high of a price point for the set when they are stunning on their own. Furthermore: Swift and fun review again; makes me want to buy them even more😄
The Chrysanthemum might be a more interesting build, but the Plum Blossom looks more dynamic on display. The Asian style bases are a nice touch! Hmm a decorative plant I don't have to water, but have to dust. what a dilemma. XD
@@TiagoCatarino another question is, are the bases interchangeable. Frankly, I like the vase on the Chrysanthemum better than the Plum Blossom. Can you switch them around?
Both have been sitting here, unopened, since early September. And 10331 Kingfisher even longer (end of January). I think the receiver does not like these gifts.
While the vases were pretty nice to build there's a thing I didn't like about the crysanthemum's: that upside-down connection, while cleverly done and one of the most interesting building techniques in the sets, is very flimsy for all the weight it's supporting, and comes apart almost every time I have to pick up the set.
Just got the chrysanthemum and my main gripe is the petals are too widely spaced. I'm honestly considering a second one to double up the bananas, but €50 for a flower is a bit much.
I feel the botanical collection is the most innovative Lego line. Don’t get me wrong, I love all Lego but the reality of the displays with this line is unparalleled.
while i think these sets are very pretty, i really prefer the larger sets, specifically those with a pot or vase, like the lilacs and birds of paradise japanese maple etc.
Hi Tiago Catarino , do you know if Lego will have any more double Insiders points in the upcoming weeks (before Christmas)? Wanted to get the Ninjago City Gardens for my son (it's really for him not for any adult I know...) before it is discontinued! Love your content please keep doing more =D Abraço
Why is value measured in price per piece? Shouldn't it be price per gram or something related to weight since larger/smaller pieces cost different amounts to produce?
Its easier to get a quick “is this worth the price” by looking at the piece count compared to the price. And weighing the set is impossible to do until you actually have it on hand, but just to sum it up it may not be a fair method every time but it gets the job done and its something that only takes a quick glance.
@@manzoh2248 it feels like the same situation where american units of measurements like inches are seen as stupid to other countries but nevertheless we still use it
Something I can look at and quickly do math with. Not the whole set's worth can be based off of PPP of course, it's just a metric I personally like to use.
Unless you're making the same in AUD as Europeans make in EUR and Americans make in USD, I don't see why. If it's the number after the $-sign, imagine how the Japanese feel. 1 USD is about 150 JPY.
Yeah you right, I did some googling and the math checks out if the AUD price is including GST which all products do. I wish our dollar wasn't so bad. I'm gonna go back to reminiscing to when USD and AUD were similar and I didn't feel like I was being shafted everyday.
Question for you, Tiago: Why do the four Bouquets, each having 749, 756, 822, and 939 pieces, all cost $60, but the new Flower Arrangement 10345 costs almost double that, $110, but it has 1161 pieces, so it's not that much more.
