  • Unlike the LDS Church, the Community of Christ accepts baptisms from other Christian churches as long as the person was at least 8 years old at the time of baptism. We'll talk more about the move to change baptism requirements and discuss priesthood ordination. Check out our conversation....

    The baptism conversation was interesting. As a former Catholic I always thought that the infant baptism was a bit odd but the sprinkling vs immersion part never bugged me. I was frankly taken aback when LDS missionaries told me my Catholic sprinkling method was “unauthorized”. I just wondered why does the method matter? Turns out the method and age are both a big deal to many.

      the method matters because its a representation of death and resurrection, being born again, etc. You are taking upon yourself the name of Christ, is symbolic of you dying with Christ and resurrecting with Him. You dont get that symbolism with sprinkling.

      @@CarlosRomero-pl9tk You hit the nail. It’s symbolic. Sprinkling can be just as meaningful symbolic as defined by those religious leaders doing the sprinkling. Also, it’s just a faster process with the same end result.

      well I dont think sprinkling can have the same symbolisms, if you think that thats fine, but there is a huge difference, nothing about sprikling represents death and resurrection. On top of that, you need the proper priesthood authority. It seems like the Comunity of Christ does not undertand this concept. Not anyone can baptize. You need priesthood authoirty.@@Zeett09

      @@Zeett09yep. That’s the big conversation, right? When does is a symbol “valid” or not? Or does a symbol even need to be “valid”? Like I said, I don’t actually care all that much. I’ll leave that up to the people that do to debate it!

    I checked out CoC churches in Germany. They are so few and far between that I couldn't possibly attend in person regularly. I think rebaptism is one of their least concerns.

      What are the major concerns?

    • @brittanymang88

      I do know the church in Germany (especially the former LDS folk)participate in a pretty tight knit community that meets online. It’s called Community Circle. Several of my friends are part of it.

    It's interesting to me that members that are upset with LDS Priesthood rules move to a church that you now have to be "called" in order to receive it. With only 15-20% of the church having the Priesthood that means that the majority of families in Community of Christ do not have the Priesthood in their home. No matter the male or female issue.

    • @GospelTangents
      @GospelTangents  6 месяцев назад +2

      I don't know that anyone from CoC is upset. They just follow the 19th century model for priesthood.

    • @brittanymang88
      @brittanymang88 6 месяцев назад +1

      Nobody in CofC is really upset. The issue is when you have former LDS men who are used to being ordained who are then not automatically ordained in Community of Christ. Like I said, it’s more like other denominations where priesthood is seen as clergy. Having the “priesthood in your home” isn’t really a concept in Community of Christ at all, just like it’s not a concept in most Christian religions.

      But I also always say that I could no more as a non member in Community of Christ than I ever could have as an LDS woman. I was planning and leading worship services before I was even a member. What we call sacraments (what LDS call ordinances) are the main thing reserved for ordained ministers. You can do pretty much everything else without being ordained and most things without being a member. One of our current Sunday school teachers isn’t a member. We’re completely fine with it!

    No longer is there any useful comparison between The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and Community of Christ. The Angel declared to Nephi: There are save two churches only. The one is the church of the Lamb of God, and the other is the church of the devil; there fore whoso belongeth not to the church of the lamb of god, belongeth to that great church, which is the mother of abominations; and she is the whore of all the earth. 1 Nephi 14:10. Also see vs 12,14.. Doctrine and Covenants section 1:30 ….. Follow the true servants of Jesus Christ; The First Presidency and Quorum of the 12 Apostles of Jesus Christ that preside and lead The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Any church, worldly organization, fraternity, political party & etc that is not The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, is by their nature of this world and therefore worldly.
