    The most tragic detail about Shannon’s flashback is that it all takes place only a short 2-3 years before the plane crash (as Shannon is 20, freshly turned 21 as of this episode, and she’s 18 in her flashbacks). Almost everyone else’s flashbacks show their entire lives, even Walt who’s only 10 we get to see him from birth. Shannon went through so much in just 2 years. Lost her father, lost her money, got married and divorced (mentioned previously by Boone) moved from place to place because that’s all she knew. I just wish she got the chance to thrive more 😭

    Lexie, this episode takes place on day 47 - 48 after the crash of Oceanic #815.
    Boone died on day 42 ( one of the numbers ) / Shannon died on day 48 ( two of the numbers ) / the "siblings" died six days apart.
    Also when Shannon saw Walt in her tent speaking backwards he said "They're coming and they're close", when played forward.
    Shannon says she'll be working 16 hours a day if she gets her internship.
    There are 8 people traveling from the other side of the island. ( Sawyer, Michael, Jin, Ana, Eko, Libby, Bernard, Cindy }
    Cindy disappears, leaving just 4 Tailies ( Ana, Eko, Libby, and Bernard )
    When Ana Lucia explains to Michael why they need to keep moving even though they are two days away from the Others, she says "And if you think that one gun and one bullet is gonna stop them, think again." A short while later, she uses that same "one gun and one bullet" to kill Shannon, whom she believed to be an Other.

    I was one of the people who told you Shannon was one of my favourite characters (and she is). I remember thinking when I wrote it that you might interpret it as meaning she lives for a good while into the show's run, and I posted it anyway.

    I think the great thing about Shannon, I also only realized way too late, is that she's already a developed character when we meet her for the first time. She's at her worst at first, because of the things she's been through.
    That's why she's so unlikeable at first. Not because she's a bad person...
    I think about this more and more lately because I got more into contact again with an old good friend of mine. We lost contact pretty much, back in 2020 after my mother's death. I was NOT healthy back then. 😅
    By any means . . . And I must have been difficult to deal with.
    I appreciate the efforts and the loyalty from all my other family members. I swear, mental health is SO important.
    I'm better now. 👍

    Shannon's death still makes me angry. Her growth was wonderful. I felt exactly the same. First Boone, then Shannon.
    Boone was my first favourite, then Shannon, and the show ripped both away from me.
    Luckily, with the introduction of Libby, there was a new character to become my favourite.
    Oh, and we lost Cindy! I do like Cindy too. But now she's gone. Have you recognized her yet? She's in the Pilot episode. She's the flight attendant who talks to Jack on the plane. So glad they bought her back, although she didn't get to come back for long.

  • @SamuelDJCox
    @SamuelDJCox Месяц назад

    Shannon is one of my favourites too. But I think part of the reason is for the pure tragedy and emotion that her story contains.
    A great character arc condensed into a short time-frame and you go on such a transformation in how you perceive her, and by the end when she exits the show you’ve had a life lesson in not judging a book by its cover.
    I wish we got more of her! But that’s also the courage of the writers to make that bold choice in taking her out right when her story was climaxing.
    She represents something beautiful in this cast of characters, a soul clouded by darkness and tragedy whom did have a small light shining alas it was clouded over for so long. By the time we see it at its brightest and most beautiful is also the time when it burns fast, bright and then fades. But the point of the story is that the light was always there. We all have that light inside of us. Great reaction! 💙

    Another small detail I don’t see anyone else pick up on; the doctors lied about Shannon’s dad. The one who talks to them says he died at the scene of the accident, however as we see in the first episode of the season, he was still alive in the hospital and Jack actively chose not to save him, leading to him dying on the table in emergency room

    Lexi's optimistic view of Shannon's survivability in this episode reminded me of my similar desperate optimism regarding the outcome of the shooting of a certain character in "The Last of Us" video game. I had genuine hope for a very optimistic outcome during the opening credits scene because the alternative was just too painful to contemplate or to endure. But I guess we will just have to wait for Lexi's next Lost upload for her to find out the accuracy of her optimism.

    27:54 "There's no way they killed her off in Episode 6 -- that's not an episode you kill a main character in." Actually, back in those days at least, it was very important for TV networks to get people watching their shows during certain times of the year, called Sweeps Months, including February, May, and July -- and November (in which this episode aired) was the biggest of them all. This is because these times were when the Neilsen ratings (a method of measuring audience viewership) were measured, and on which TV advertising rates were determined. So these were very important times for the network's bottom line. And so TV shows were written to maximize the shocking twists and turns during these months, like killing off characters! This was how network TV worked back then (and maybe still does, but no one watches network TV anymore). In contrast, the idea of a "midseason finale" as an advertising tactic didn't come around till much later, because December episodes didn't count for much in terms of ratings. December episodes were often unmemorable transition episodes, or sometimes holiday-themed episodes. Google "November Sweeps" and "Neilsen ratings" to learn more :)

      It is very unlikely to be fair, but this accident was an important moment for them both, so if Jack was to tell Shannon where he work, Shannon would remember that it is where her father died. And if she then tells him the name Rutherford, there is a good chance that Jack would remember the name of the man he could not help to save his future wife instead.
      But after this episode, it's even more unlikely i guess 😅

    If I recall correctly from what I read at the time - the show runners felt it was necessary to kill a character in the first season to show people that this was a real life situation these people were in; there was of speculation that it was all dream or other unreal thing. Ian Somerholder drew the short straw, and so they killed boon. Then, I think Maggie Grace asked to leave the show because of other things she had going on at the time, so Shannon was killed.
    Had they know she'd be leaving, possibly they wouldn't have picked Boone to die. It is unfortunate that both characters from a single story arc were gone, especially just as each seemed to coming into their own.

    • @Zso-VIII
      @Zso-VIII 4 месяца назад +4

      No, Maggie Grace didn't request to leave, she was informed they were killing off her character. Apparently they thought her arc had reached a natural end and they didn't have anything specific they wanted to do with the character going forward.
