Amazed at how much I actually remembered of this episode. Radio Terrapin. Ice-cubes Down My Cleavage or The Coldtitz Story, that parody on the Deck of Cards. Cloughie. Found myself anticipating punchlines from memory. Must have been Christmas. Arab oil embargoes. Watergate is bubbling under. Heath is at No 10, Slade is at No.1. The Exorcist will premiere in three days time.
Another thing....wed listen to these shows on Dad's really excellent stereo which had BBC designed monitor speakers (Spendor) and the stereo sound quality was fabulous. Like the performers were in the room with you. And the sound effects were great.
Just found this. My dad recorded it and we kept the cassette a long time. Mr brother and I have quoted bits of it to each other ever since. Thought it was lost forever.
ISIRTA ran from 1964 - 1973 and this was the concluding edition of the ninth and last series, first broadcast on 23 December 1973. There was a 25th anniversary special in 1989, since which time we have sadly lost David Hatch (2007), Tim Brooke-Taylor (2020) and Jo Kendall (2022).
I know all of this episode pretty much and I’ve not heard it for 30 years at least. 11 when it went out, some great writing and oddie was a genius song writer. It’s all riiight, ......I’ll walk Superb. And we thought we were in a mess then!
So bloody annoying, having a picture of the Pythons instead of the cast of ISIRTA. It's just as easy to get things right as they are to paint a picture of a ferret.
My favorite episode ever! Pure genius.
My favourite ever episode. Thanks for bringing back memories :-)
loved the opera " The Budgerigar". Did you ever hear that ?
And a rat timeless

Wasn't Brian Clough's time at Leeds United imminent at the time?
@@barbarakirk3064 Not really. Clough came in August 74.
@@clivenaylor5392 Thanks for correcting me.

I remember listening to ISIRTA when it was originally broadcast. It is as funny now as it was all those decades ago.
Fab episode, especially for Bill Oddie’s ode to Brian Clough.
Years ago, I had a tape made by the BBC and hosted by Paul Merton that featured the Colditz sketch. I've been trying to find it ever since!
Wrong photo. Only John Cleese was in the cast of ISIRTA.

Bill doing Tim's take on Deck Of Cards!
3 Goodies, a woman, a Python and a top BBC executive!!!.
Shame the photo is of the Monty Python team not the ISIRTA gang.
All westerners look alike to them.
Why is the picture of the Monty Python cast? There are pictures of the ISRTA cast available, surely.
Prescient stuff from TBT at the top there. We’re no fools, we’re off to the Bahamas. Byeee
I live in Exuma. I hope you had a lovely time.
Could re-run the intro for today's situation
