I was born with straight hair but when I hit puberty it turned into a ball of frizz. I eventually realized it was transitioning to extremely wavy but I had no idea how to care for super wavy hair. Glad I’m not the only one!
ive only recently, within the last few years, began to understand that same thing. i had straight hair until puberty, and then my hair was frizzy, tangly, it was a mess. my mom used to get angry with me and tell me if i wouldnt take care of my hair she'd cut it off (she did once, it obviously didn't help). only now in my mid-late 20s am i realizing that hormones played a huge role in the shift of my hair. i'm a mother now and my hair seems to change more as time goes on. i'm still trying to figure out what works for me, maybe i'll get there some day.
That explains so much. My hair used to be straight and wavy hair wasn't in when I was in school so I never bothered to style it properly until college.
Great tips! I can definitely relate to you with being Asian and having wavy hair. I just started to embrace my waves this year and now I’m in love with it. I'm a mixed asian person with wavy/curly hair naturally and I've always been told it's so unattractive but I love it. I embrace my hair fully and try my hardest to care for it. It's been hard since my hair grew to a really long length though
Being an Asian when I was a teen I was obsessed with having a straight hair and I actually thought my hair is straight plus I used lot of heat continuously for a considerable time period but when I grew up I understood that I have a wavy hair with more curls at the end. I'm here for my daughter who is growing up now. She has wavy, some curly, and some day it's more straight but not smooth. She inherited the wavy from me, but mine is more messy. I used to just blow dry or straighten it out, so people think I have sneaky silky hair. Anyways, I tried as a mom, sometimes I get it right, sometimes I don't. Her hair texture changes by day, depending on weather how beautiful her curls or waves will be. She used to get asked a lot at school if she curls her hair, because some days it just doesn't look like that. It became frustrating because her friends at school thinks she was lying. I'm so glad I have found your channel. I hope I can help her better with your tips. Thank you.
I'm writing this comment as I'm getting my hair chemically straightened lol. I've been getting it straightened for YEARS mainly bc it's way easier to take care of. but knowing that I have your hair type to a T, I think I'll be trying this when my hair grows out again. thank you so much for the curly/wavy, frizzy hair Asians out there 🤍
Love this ❤my hair is not as wavy as yours but growing up I was so self conscious of my hair being wavy, especially my bangs. Everyone had straight side bangs and mine would always be wavy, and I HATED it so much. I’ve since learned how to work with my waves, and love the way it can look but it’s so true that asians do not have perfectly straight, thick, shiny black hair.
Your hair's absolutely stunning! Thank you so much for representing and teaching us asian girls (or boys) with hair like yours. My hair's always been so frizzy and coarse and poofy and no one else in my family had it. My friends and family all had sleek straight hair so neither I or them had any idea how to look after my hair. Thank you again for helping me on this journey! Quick question, how long does it take for the results to become permanent? Like for example, on wash day, my hair looks great and then on the next, it's gone back to it's frizzy poofy self. I've tried using the pineapple method and using a silk scarf, but especially because I have short hair, it doesn't seem to work very well. Any tips? Thank you so much again! ❤
From what I've been reading in this thread, it sounds like you have type 2 hair like I do, and the frizz struggle is real! I think it's hard for Asian type 2s because of the stereotype of Asians having type 1 straight hair and like you said, nobody really understands how to care for wavy hair. I often have to use gel, mousse, serum or light to moderate amounts of grease to seal my type 2c hair to control the frizz and avoid the dreaded "triangle head" or the poofiness that can make it look like I got in a fight with a light socket and lost.
thank uuuu my hair looks exactly like the pic u showed of ur long straight but poofy hair and i remember when it was shorter i could see all the curls and i think i'm finally admitting to myself that i have curly or at least wavy hair and it looks better when i embrace it and don't hide it 😝😝
I would love to see how you maintain your curls and your routine betweeen washes! I feel like I struggle in keeping my hair looking nice and floofy between washes (especially going to sleep!) so I'd love any tips/recs you have :)
Thank you so much 😢 I just discovered I have wavy curly hair and have damaged it so much throughout the years treating it as if it was straight. I now need to moisterise my hair without it getting greasy
My problem is that my hair is curly/wavy when it’s wet and once it starts to dry it slowly loses the curls. Blow dry, air dry, gel, no gel etc, does not matter. Also when I use curly hair products my hair becomes frizzy once it’s dry. Let’s just say that I’m lost af😅
@@Hangtw at the moment I’m trying out a leave-in and a curl cream from Björk (it’s a swedish brand that people speak well about) and for gel I’m using unite curl defining cream(if I use it, don’t really like it. It makes my hair look so dry so I’m thinking that I will replace that one). Sometimes I use an hair oil. If I skip the curl cream and gel my hair looks great but no curls, with them my hair looks dry and frizzy but also no curls. Like I don’t get it😅 Also note that I live in a humid area
@@rebeccasartcorner If your hair looks great when it’s on the more straight side I don’t see why you would need to change anything. Maybe just add a leave in for more moisture if you feel like it. Too many people nowadays ,,discovering their hidden waves” with hundreds of steps and finger coiling every strand when it’s not neccessary at all if their hair looks amazing straight and it’s not frizzy…
@@seacow0473 yeah, I thought about that too so I get what you’re saying. At this point it just bothers me that I can’t get the wet curls to hold when they are dry😅 my hair was more curly/wavy when I was going through my no poo phase, when I only washed my hair with water and I didn’t use any type of products in my hair. Maybe I’m just bored, idk😅🤷♀️ I will probably give it a few more months and than if it hasn’t worked out by then maybe it’s just not meant to be🤷♀️
are great tips! and apart from the plopping one (which I only recommend for those people with wavy or slightly curly hair, as it can cause a lot of frizz), the rest is equally suitable for everyone. Enjoy!!
I think plopping is great if they’re transitioning and really wanna encourage the pattern but denman styling is probably my fav and have the least amount of frizz!
I’m south Asian and as you know there’s a stereotype that south Asians need straight silky hair to look pretty. It isn’t as much of a stereotype as it is in East Asian countries since MANY south Asians have wavish straightish hair but mine is CURLY with ringlets which really makes me insecure since my mom always tells me how messy it looks. She even said once that I should get it permed…😭 but I’m starting to actually take care of my hair and getting proper haircuts so seeing someone with course and frizzy hair being able to make their hair pop off is so reassuring! You’re so beautiful btw ❤
A year ago I relaxed my hair and 3 months ago I chemically straightened it. I recently got a haircut and now my hair is right above my shoulders. I plan on keeping it at this length for a few months and slowly cutting the chemically straightened hair out. Moral of the story, embrace the hair type that you were born with. You were born with those features for a reason and it will always be what looks best on you! (Just to add on, If you're thinking of getting your hair japanese straightened, don't do it. I had to use my revlon blowdry brush everytime I washed my hair because it was the only way it would look good and not fried and poofy. Now I have eight thousand split ends.)
Ok I’m figuring stuff out and would love a little more description on your haircut. However I’m very lucky as one parent is a hairdresser so they could figure it out. The only issue, I’m the one with the wavy curls and they have poker straight hair. So it’s always been me figuring it out or being the guinea pig. However that leave in at 3:22 I just started using and would recommend! I’ve grown up where drugstore is semi taboo due to my parent but decided to try that one and I really recommend it.
I was born with wavy hair and thank goodness my father never wanted to cut my hair short or straighten it when I get older. i've embraced my waves and I thank my parents never insisted for me to get straight hair.
I found use clarify shampoo once a week to start a clean slate for any moisture and anti frizzy or silky serum to work at its best Hair is like fiber. If not treated with clarify shampoo. it will continue to be in a gunky mess situation and no moisture conditioner or anti frizz serum can work properly 😉
hey can you do a video on how you straighten your curly hair? whenever I want to straighten my hair it always ends up poofy and takes hours to get it straight
I have naturally straight Asian hair but I'm so bored of it, I got a perm lol. I think people definitely want what they don't have. I really thought all Asians had straight hair so i think you're blessed to have such beautiful curly hair. The funny thing is, people probably think my perm is my natural hair and that I probably used to straighten it everyday
Your videos are incredibly informative! I’m curious, as a beginner, do you record them using your front or back camera, and is it from your phone or a camera? I’ve noticed that you always seem to be looking at the screen, which adds a beautiful touch to your content. I would truly appreciate it if you could share some insights. Thank you
Hi.. have you chopped off your straight perm hair completely. I am in the transitional phase. Love your vedios, I find some hope during this phase while watching yours.
My hair takes hours to air dry after I put in products. Would you recommend diffusing it on low heat to dry, or would plopping it until it dries be better?
Hello I hope you're fine ? thank you very much for your video I think I will start doing this routine because my hair is like you. they are not so smooth or loop well, and so when I saw your video I was so happy. I have a little question so do you know if we Asians have what type of hair exactly in the end?
So true. The main stream culture that I get as a non cultural Asian American (my mom is adopted by white ppl) is: Rice water Keratin treatments Straight hair I'm half latin and my hair is between curly and wavy and it just wasn't good for me.
when you started did your waves like not work with you and fade out a lot when you slept on it in the first week? i’m trying it rn and when i wake up they are basically gone!!
That’s normal for it to loosen up. And depending on your wave pattern - if it’s really loose , you’ll see it eventually fade away. Try sleeping with a bonnet and move it away so you’re not sleeping on top your hair. This might help maintain pattern or you could also refresh in the morning by misting with water!
I have a question, i have a bit of wavy hair too. But i cant use a lot of products as i have eczema, and my scalp does not like parfume at all. I cant find any good products that doesn’t have parfume in it. Is there someone that knows good products or natural remedies?!?
Hi I hope you see this cuz I need help 😭 my girlfriend is at that awkward stage where she straitened her hair and it’s now growing out from the roots about 2-3 inches and the rest is her straight. She wants to embrace her wavy hair but doesn’t know where to start so I’ve been helping her do research 😔
Yeah i get that to its soo annoying. I'm half asian and both my parents have straight hair. My non-asian dad has slight waves bt I do have actual curls and most people seem think I curl it. I don't even have a hair curler at home!😭😭
As a Native American, from Central Mexico we are the same way, not everyone had straight black hair. Some had wavy but definitely not curly.... What part of Asia are you from?
i’m a mixed african male and my mom has very curly hair and my sisters also but it’s weird since i’m like the only person in my family with relatively straight hair, i heard it can change with age but it’s pretty weird
I think it's more common than people realize for type 2s to have oilier roots and dry ends. Oil flows from scalp to ends most efficiently in people with straight hair. As a person with type 2c hair, I tend to put heavier conditioners, leave in products or sealing products everywhere but the roots, focusing mostly about mid shaft to the ends where it's the driest.
Can u plz share some tips to prevent rough hair ends... I really need it. I'm a teenage girl with curly hairs, and I'm so sick with rough hair ends. I live in India, so many products aren't available here that you've told to try. I really don't know how to take care of my hair plz help me...🙏🙏. Love from India 💜
You could try sleeping with a bonnet and moving your hair up so you won’t directly lay on it. Another option is to refresh in the morning by wetting it
Hi, thank you so much for the tips but I have a question so my hair looks like yours when I get out of the shower and stays curly for maybe 3 hours? But then it just becomes straight I wonder if you know the reason or some tips to help me.
@@Hangtw i don't really have that much for hair but when I get out of the shower I do use something to make my curls look better. i live in Norway and the place I live we barley have anything for hair and shipping takes a long time so I always try to look in shops but they have nothing.
I don't think I've ever seen any Asian person (who wasn't mixed raced) who had curly or even wavy hair before. In retrospect, it seems obvious that at least some of the population would. Most races have a mix of hair types so why not? It makes sense now that I think about it.

thank uuuu my hair looks exactly like the pic u showed of ur long straight but poofy hair and i remember when it was shorter i could see all the curls and i think i'm finally admitting to myself that i have curly or at least wavy hair and it looks better when i embrace it and don't hide it 😝😝
I would love to see how you maintain your curls and your routine betweeen washes!
Use curly hair products on wet hair and dont move your hair a lot while its drying. Do u use a gel in the end?
I had this problem when I first started and it was because my hair was missing a lot of moisture and very dry. What products do you use?
Yes Girl!! I have curly Hair too! :)
Shout out to all wavy asian hairs friends out there! I feel we have similar journey to embracing out natural hair :D
i’m half asian and i have waves but yes i agree people don’t know that asians can have curls and waves
I found use clarify shampoo once a week to start a clean slate for any moisture and anti frizzy or silky serum to work at its best
Hair is like fiber.
Yes sure!
Her hair is not curly. Wavy at best, NOT curly
This is super helpful ❤

To anyone reading this comment you are a Queen who deserves the world and you are beautiful and intelligent no matter what anyone say
Thank you
Love your layers
My hair is similar. Trying to take care of it more.
Great help 👍
Great tips 😊
Can you please do video on how to maintain the curls until next hair wash , cause I'm a beginner, and should I braid hair or not ?
Wear a bonnet to sleep, or refresh in the morning by spraying water 😊 I have a video that shows how I refresh
@@Hangtw thank you for replying 🤍
Hi.. have you chopped off your straight perm hair completely. I am in the transitional phase. Love your vedios, I find some hope during this phase while watching yours.
My hair takes hours to air dry after I put in products. Would you recommend diffusing it on low heat to dry, or would plopping it until it dries be better?
What's your hair porosity type? I have dry/ coarse and low porosity. Thanks
Thanks for sharing this!!! :)
Absolutely:)
Hello I hope you're fine ?
thank you very much for your video I think I will start doing this routine because my hair is like you. they are not so smooth or loop well, and so when I saw your video I was so happy.
I have a little question so do you know if we Asians have what type of hair exactly in the end?
So true. The main stream culture that I get as a non cultural Asian American (my mom is adopted by white ppl) is:
Rice water
Keratin treatments
Straight hair
I'm half latin and my hair is between curly and wavy and it just wasn't good for me.
when you started did your waves like not work with you and fade out a lot when you slept on it in the first week? i’m trying it rn and when i wake up they are basically gone!!
After plopping technique do u go to sleep with the wet hair??
its thin w high porosity
Hi I hope you see this cuz I need help 😭 my girlfriend is at that awkward stage where she straitened her hair and it’s now growing out from the roots about 2-3 inches and the rest is her straight. She wants to embrace her wavy hair but doesn’t know where to start so I’ve been helping her do research 😔
Yeah i get that to its soo annoying. I'm half asian and both my parents have straight hair. My non-asian dad has slight waves bt I do have actual curls and most people seem think I curl it. I don't even have a hair curler at home!😭😭
Help, my hair after smoothing not grow as good as your hair does :(
As a Native American, from Central Mexico we are the same way, not everyone had straight black hair. Some had wavy but definitely not curly.... What part of Asia are you from?
What is ur hairstyle name I love it
For #4 can you just plop your hair with a microfiber towel?
i’m a mixed african male and my mom has very curly hair and my sisters also but it’s weird since i’m like the only person in my family with relatively straight hair, i heard it can change with age but it’s pretty weird
I'm 2-C bed head style. Looks good the first day, then the second and third is a hot mess. Greasy skull, so I tend to wash more.
I’m a 18 yo male that has had dry frizzy wavy hair all my life, what’s the best products you recommend?
The conditioner that I shared in this video is a great place to start
Can u plz share some tips to prevent rough hair ends... I really need it. I'm a teenage girl with curly hairs, and I'm so sick with rough hair ends. I live in India, so many products aren't available here that you've told to try. I really don't know how to take care of my hair plz help me...🙏🙏. Love from India 💜
Ur so beautiful!! Also how can my hair stay curly when I wake up my hair is straight and I don't want that :v
You could try sleeping with a bonnet and moving your hair up so you won’t directly lay on it. Another option is to refresh in the morning by wetting it
@@Hangtw omg thank youuuu 😭, your the besttt 🤗🤗
Hi, thank you so much for the tips but I have a question so my hair looks like yours when I get out of the shower and stays curly for maybe 3 hours? But then it just becomes straight I wonder if you know the reason or some tips to help me.
Do you use any products to hold the style?
@@Hangtw i don't really have that much for hair but when I get out of the shower I do use something to make my curls look better. i live in Norway and the place I live we barley have anything for hair and shipping takes a long time so I always try to look in shops but they have nothing.
Does anyone have any tips for drying thick and wavy hair?
Oh you haven't seen Indians when you say 'you never saw Asians with wavy hair'. I think atleast 70% of Indians have wavy or curly hair😂
I have wavy hair that’s oily at the roots,is that fine?
Need you skincare routine
Your hair before, just like my hair now😭😭😭
My hair is like u now it so puffy at the top
Hey how to treat hair post shower?
I have a video showing how I style after shower. You can find it in “how to tame frizzy hair routine”
@@Hangtw thank you ♥
Am an Asian and I have wavy hair
Nice 👍
great video but girl your microphone-
😍😍😍❤❤❤
I have wavy hair, I think because of my spanish heritage?
この動画の言ってること試してみるけど、日本にはカーリーヘアを扱える美容師がいないの。困る😭😭😭
I’m watching this in 2024 wow
Why do you describe your hair as wavy and not curly?
Your height
It looks greasy in the thumbnail.
I don't think I've ever seen any Asian person (who wasn't mixed raced) who had curly or even wavy hair before. In retrospect, it seems obvious that at least some of the population would. Most races have a mix of hair types so why not? It makes sense now that I think about it.
First?
yasss ☺
Ur hair looks more curly than wavy
1:49 what products would you recommend hang? 👀❤️🩹
I was born with wavy hair and thank goodness my father never wanted to cut my hair short or straighten it when I get older. i've embraced my waves and I thank my parents never insisted for me to get straight hair.
