Actually using complementary colors (opposites on the color wheel) is one of the more useful ways of getting the colors you want. Say you are painting a tree top green, the way you can get shadows in a bunch of darker green shades is mixing that same green with a touch of red and then a touch more red. Then in the areas you want blacker add a considerable amount of red to that green to get a nice matching chromatic black/grey. :) it doesn't make bright colors, it makes very useful colors :) have fun, best to you!
Thanks for this review. I got this palette after I saw this video in Summer. It really changed how I feel about water-soluble crayons. Now they are my go to even over my watercolor palette because of the ease and variety of colors. I use them with a set of Lyra Polycolor.
I enjoyed seeing all the different colours you mixed. I have a small set of Neocolor 11(30) and have wondered about a buying larger set but now I think I’ll be playing around with colour mixing. Thank you.
I had a great time thank you.. I was thinking about purchasing the palette but thought it might be just a silly item, after watching you.. its a must (giggle) again thank you .. hugs
It's a good little tool Samantha. Other people have suggested using a chopping board as they are cheaper but I do like this and it's a nice size too. Not too big. 😁🎨
I have bought this colors (40) today, because I fall in love with it.... You can use this wonderful colirs to many kind of arts. thea‘re very good for mixed media, backgrounds and so on......Thank you for this video ....
Thanks so much for your neo 2 videos, they came at the perfect time as I'd been looking at these for a while and couldn't make up my mind. I've just bought the 40 set and the palette on your recommendations and I love them so much, I also went mad and bought Mythomorphia and Inklings so I've got some exciting colouring ahead and can't thank you enough. This palette makes it so easy to paint smaller details as well as colour mixing, I originally thought it maybe a gimmick but it's really a must have with Neos. Your so thorough and give enough information to help make up our own minds. Thanks again!
This is the most informative video I have found on mixing Noecolors Aqua crayons . thank you hon. so helpful. I plan to get the 10 set for holidays 2024 .I have the 84 set got for xmas 2023 from my man hahahah Happy Etsy
I really enjoyed this video.. perhaps if you used a slightly larger brush, that would help with the streakiness of the washes.. just was thinking that as you went back and forth with such a tiny brush .. I know this comment is a long time after the video was made , but I just recently discovered your channel .. thanks :-))
Smoother paper would be better, Sue. I should have used a hot press watercolour paper for this demonstration. I personally don't mind the texture on the cold press paper but I don't think it was good for this video. I have coloured one picture with these in the Romatic Country colouring book and it's ok but close up, it's dried funny. It's kind of bitty. Didn't dry evenly. So in future, I think I would either transfer the image onto hot press paper or use the clear gesso in the colouring book 😀
Very helpful video. I find watercolour paints frustrating in many ways (getting lids on/off, messing up my palette colours, using too much water...) I think using neocolor IIs like this might suit me better.
Hi Sing, do you mean the mixing palette? If yes then yes I've used it with inktense. It did stain the palette a bit but not too much and it really wasn't a problem for me.
Have you been reading my mind? I have had this palette on my wish list for about 3 weeks and 'ummed' and 'ahhed' about whether it is worth the money for what I do. I can see it will be very beneficial. I sold my 15 set of neo's after buying a 30 set when Blythes were closing down. I haven't really used them but I can see how much easier now it will be. Have you tried doing something similar with watercolour pencils? I would love to see something along these lines to use both to their full potential.
Haha, great minds think alike, capyboppy 😆 I'm quite pleased with this palette even though it's a bit pricey for what it is. Other people have pointed out that you can use other objects like chopping boards which are much cheaper 😲 but I've already gone and invested in this now 🙄 Actually, I never even thought about using my watercolour pencils but I suppose it will just work the same. Thanks for the idea, I might do another video about the watercolour pencils too 😀
The Art Spirits I noticed they had doubled in price from when I added it to my wish list but found one in eBay at £10 including postage. Expecting it tomorrow.
Yes, that's what I paid for mine. I think around £10.50 but I can't remember if I bought it from eBay or Amazon. It's still a bit expensive for a little piece of plastic but I do really like mine. Hope you love it, capyboppy 😀
The Art Spirits will let you know how I get on with it. I actually have 2 textured flexi copping boards I could have tried. They may be too flexible though. Nowt like the real deal though (hopefully).
Hi Ritsuka, I haven't actually used acrylic paint in them so far so I'm not really experienced enough to show others. I do know that a lady on another RUclips channel called Dede Willingham, if you haven't already heard of her. She does a lot of videos on this exact subject and she's an amazing artist so I would definitely recommend you taking a look at her videos 😀
Pretty color mixes! Excited to go try mixing the few crayons I got :). Whereabout in the UK are you from btw? Am not good at recognizing accents and really curious.
Is there a chart that says what colors are in the 40 set? I have the 30 set and then I ordered 17 open stock from blick they will be here Friday. This video is very informative and I for one appreciate you taking the time to show this. I was playing with some other crayons but they don’t work the same. But still good. I just use them different. I love the neo color 2 they are my favorite. I’m trying to perfect a galaxy. Tried to get that palet your working on. I’m in the USA and can’t get it. Any suggestions on something else to use?
Maybe just add more water and use the white of the paper and save your white crayon. I've ordered one of these palettes for mixing watercolour pencils and crayons, should be here soon. Thanks for the video.
I have the set of 10 Neocolor IIs, but I rarely use them. My question is this: why use these rather than just using watercolor paint? I don't see the advantage of using the Neocolor IIs.
It washed off pretty easy but did leave some faint staining behind. It may come off with a soak in some alcohol but it's not really a problem for me so I've just left it as it is.
Yeah, I was doing that too, before I bought the palette which is a lot better as it's textured so grabs a lot more pigment. I found the lid of the tin to be a bit too smooth.
This is brilliant! I LOVE my Neocolor 2’s and your video helped to remind me of their versatility as a art medium. Hugs... 💕🤗💕

hansendesigns great típ!
Complementary mixing is also a great way to make browns.
Thank you for mixing colors with the smaller box of crayons. The range of greens was of particular interest.
You’re welcome 😊

The paints are beautiful, I really like how u explain why you do certain things in your art work. Great job.
Great video. It really opened me up to the possibility of these crayons. Loved all the color mixing demos.
Excellent video, thanks so much for showing the mixing on the palette.
Thank you very much for watching, glad you liked it 😀
Thanks for your video! Those crayons are so exciting when used together like that! I want to purchase the pallet too.
Thanks for sharing. This is a very useful video explaining and demonstrating color mixing.
I could play with colors all day long! And watch color mixing videos too
Me too! It's so much fun 🎨🎨🎨🎨🎨🎨🎨🎨

Thanks for your video. This has helped me to decide which set of Neocolor II that I should get. Thanks for doing the fleshtones.

Thanks so much 😊. Wow, I'd love the 84 set 😍
@@TheArtSpirits hope you can get them in a sale xxx
Brilliant! I'm going to mix everything I have now! Thanks xxxxx
Haha, good! Glad you found the video useful Kerri 😀
Thank you so much for doing this video. I only have 10 set and in my mind I didn't know how to achieve different colors. Thanks again
Always so informative...thanks Bec!
Thanks Kate 😇

Great video, as ever.
I suspect the colouring book paper would behave better than the watercolour paper with these if you wanted to go direct.

Great Video! Would you know if it works with the Derwent Inktense pencils?
Hi Sing, do you mean the mixing palette? If yes then yes I've used it with inktense. It did stain the palette a bit but not too much and it really wasn't a problem for me.
Hi, do you have the pigment codes for these?
Have you been reading my mind? I have had this palette on my wish list for about 3 weeks and 'ummed' and 'ahhed' about whether it is worth the money for what I do. Hi, thanks so much for watching. I'm from Cumbria 😀
Well i bought the Caran D'ache palette this morning.
Is there a chart that says what colors are in the 40 set? I have the 30 set and then I ordered 17 open stock from blick they will be here Friday. I would probably try using a small nylon chopping board
Great Video.
Love The Palate because when using different colours in new area It Stays without dripping Down.
Yes, that's another good thing about it, Julia. I wish I had mentioned that in the video 😀
Maybe just add more water and use the white of the paper and save your white crayon.
I've ordered one of these palettes for mixing watercolour pencils and crayons, should be here soon. Thanks for the video.
Are there only swatch -artists anymore?
Thank you so much.. I learned a lot!
I just wish the neocolor ll's were rated as lightfast
i love this video ❤💚💜💛💙
Thanks very much 😀
You only need Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. You can creat all the colors
I have the set of 10 Neocolor IIs, but I rarely use them. My question is this: why use these rather than just using watercolor paint? I don't see the advantage of using the Neocolor IIs.
Also..... I meant to say...... excellent video. Thank you !!!
Is it easy to clean up
It washed off pretty easy but did leave some faint staining behind. It may come off with a soak in some alcohol but it's not really a problem for me so I've just left it as it is.
Love this video ^-^
Thanks Jade 😀
I use a small plastic cutting board. Super inexpensive.
Try a larger brush. :)
i just use the lid of the tin mine came in.
Yeah, I was doing that too, before I bought the palette which is a lot better as it's textured so grabs a lot more pigment. I found the lid of the tin to be a bit too smooth.
You are using the brush wrongly and its metal part is scratching your paper. Also the bigger the surface, the wider the brush.
