Very cool unit! I was super excited to see the e-reel thinking it might be connected to the controller to actually let out tether as you need to. Tether management is one of the biggest challenges with using ROVs in my opinion and a system to reel out and reel in the tether via control buttons or even a foot pedal would be so awesome!

Are you certain that little screw needs to be removed to get the battery out? It seems odd that it has the spring loaded locks and the clamp and then you also have to bring a screwdriver with you too!
Hey David. I was wrong about the screw. It is only there to hold the rail on the battery. There is another identical screw on the other end of rail 🍻

Yes
Tether is rated to hold over 100lbs
To get pounds from kilograms you have to multiply by 2.2 so 12 kg is 26 pound. 😉. Nice review will probably buy one soon. Thanks for your review.

Oh boi i want one so bad but its too expensive. Id love to have a comparison to the gladius mini s which has the same claw and is far more affordable. Im kind of worried about the gladius stability though since it only has 4 motors

Cool stuff man. I'm a big fan of the channel. Glad to see you got a fimi x8 mini too. I've had it for a while, but interested in your take. Like this chasing here, you should try to get a hold of the Swan-K1 PRO. It will be like the of Parrot Disco mixed with a Mavic, which you seemed to be able to appreciate.
The “Captain Drone” YT channel did a review of the Swan. A very cool quad/plane, an hour’s flight time, looks like it has lots of potential for Dustin to mod it up!

Drone itself looks good... But for the price, one would think the controller would be beefier and the tether holder/roller would be metal VS plastic. I was interested in buying this drone, but after seeing the cheesiness of the controlller and that cheap plastic... I believe they lost my money.
I don't even want to think about the nightmare of maintaining a tether winder made of metal. Anybody who has an M2 (myself included) knows the chore of maintaining the motors due to their metal cores. I am very glad the reel is mostly plastic, as I don't need another thing to have to constantly check (and I only have the unmotorised reel, the e-reel seemed unnecessary to me). As for the controller, in use it actually works fine. it's about as substantial as the handsets for the DJI Phantoms (actually, very similar to them), and once a tablet is attached to the top, beefier would mean heavy and unwieldy.
What does bother me about the M2 is the onboard video quality. Chasing claims 4K, but that feels a little disingenuous. That doesn't really matter, of course, because you're either using it as a grabber platform, or you're using it as a camera platform (which IMHO the M2 does very well), in which case you'll bolt GoPros or 360 cameras to it. Either way, the on-board camera quality isn't that important, so they could have save some money on that, and the stabilisation stuff built into the camera, and passed that reduced cost to the consumer.
I do also wish that some of the fancier add-ons were compatible with the M2, and you weren't forced to buy the M2 Pro or Max to use them. Sidescan sonar would be really useful in the M2's smaller footprint.
