Ramos was one of the greatest fighters to come out of Cuba. My dad (rip) was a big fan of his and always said that Sugar Ramos and Mantequilla Napoles were the best fighters to ever come out of Cuba.
Yes indeed Napoles is one of the all time greats and a forgotten fighter, when he became welterweight champ he was already past his prime, as a lightweight nobody wanted to fight him. Carlos Ortiz evaded him forever in those days, that was the reason he went into the welterweights and although he was already 29 when he got his chance he lasted until he was 35 in a time when it was a lot tougher than today to become world champ.
It was those short right hands in sequence that Sugar threw. He could throw those from either the orthodox or southpaw stances. He used this technique against Mando Ramos years later and nearly beat him long after his prime years.
