On the Bean Dad thing. I work with 8 - 10 year old and asking them to problem solve with NO HELP is insane. Kids that age are great learners, but they learn best with demonstration and guidance. Not a "pull your socks up, sport. The world doesn't owe you beans" Ayn Rand Mentality.
I know John Roderick personally and l've met his daughter many many times. She is an only child and the only grandchild. Her family dotes are her constantly and she was spoiled rotten when she was younger. Needing to figure out how to use a can opener isn't going to kill her. She has easy access to food all the time whenever she needs it. Not to mention that all of John's posts on his twitter are exaggerated stories.
My favorite ripple effect from the bean dad thing is that the McElroy brothers (My Brother My Brother and Me) had bean dads band as their original intro music (for like 10 years) and after this incident they replaced it and cut ties with him😭😭😭
I remember reading the thread and being like oh no is this the guy that does the intro music for mbmbam and then the next episode had the little tune of griffin singing a not-rugrats intro lmao
Can confirm after 2 weeks in Italy with my teenage daughter that the need for space is almost constant that first few days then about day 6, you’re in it to win it together. 48:53 I agree a 100% I have never heard such a pretentious thread in my life... Teaching moment or not the fact that you made your child wait over 6 hours after they had already come to you and told you they were hungry it is just cruel in itself in my opinion The idea that you could use the word superfluous to your 9-year-old and yet you did not teach them how to use a can opener shows a failure on your end as a parent

1:05:17 Excuse y'all, Moo Deng is a little girlie and she is a diva 😂 Respect her pronouns, girls can be rambunctious rascals too
And she's from a Thai zoo 😄
Tits out for Moo Deng
And she's from Thailand not China😅
Please do a whole deep dive into "dont hug me im scared" with these three and anyone else who's really into it. I need to see Amanda discover it
This was my favorite episode of smoshmouth I think! We definitely need a part two! Also I'd be down for the occasional meme reviews/updates too.
would love to see amanda's "no, thank yOu sister" as a commercial bit on bit city or something, that sounds hilarious
Honestly, I could watch just a POV of Amanda watching Dont Hug Me im Scared. Her reaction will be priceless 😂
I freaking love DHMIS
YES IT WILL BE SO AWESOME
@@Kazpberry Doubt.
@@slsthewriter1299 ok 👍
@@Kazpberry What does that have anything to do with the insanse fantasy he wrote?
yeah the way he offered no help and any little explanation AT ALL is insane behavior
DHMIS with Amanda should be a whole series
Ever since Amanda got back from her trip she’s been glowing! Her hair is amazing and whatever she’s doing differently with her makeup is so beautiful
my favorite bean dad lore is that he and his band were the intro to the mbmbam podcast for YEARS and then the mcelroys changed it after The Events
Same!! That is the ONLY reason I knew about bean dad at all, I wanted to know why they changed the intro
omg that’s them? that’s insane
this was all i was thinking about during the story!!
from the Long Winters to the Rainy Weekends
This was me too! Twas so surreal seeing it from a different angle cause I was not active in twitter
My favorite ripple effect from the bean dad thing is that the McElroy brothers (My Brother My Brother and Me) had bean dads band as their original intro music (for like 10 years) and after this incident they replaced it and cut ties with him😭😭😭
Yeah, and they were pretty intertwined with him too. They used to do cruise shows together
I remember reading the thread and being like oh no is this the guy that does the intro music for mbmbam and then the next episode had the little tune of griffin singing a not-rugrats intro lmao
I KNEW THAT NAME SOUNDED FAMILIAR! I had no idea about bean dad and thought they just wanted a change of vibe for their opening song.
i was bummed that they changed the theme but thankfully the new theme slaps so hard 😤😤
I’m surprised they didn’t mention this! It just adds to the craziness like 10 years down the drain like THAT
Pleeeease make this its own show. Like drunk history/mockumentary style archeological digs into internet history with amanda as host.
Please.
They used to do this with Reddit!
Can confirm after 2 weeks in Italy with my teenage daughter that the need for space is almost constant that first few days then about day 6, you’re in it to win it together. We still had a small meltdown on day 13 but then spent the rest of the evening and the next morning just fkng delighted with each other’s presence
will do ANYTHING to have Amanda live react to Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared
Internet History with Amanda Lehan Canto needs to be a series
That would be so fun
PLEASE
48:33 I’m so glad I never knew about baked bean dad… Listening to that twitter thread, he sounds like a self published author who has never had a beta reader and thinks that anyone who criticizes his wordplay is just unintelligent. I’d compare it to bad fan fiction, but at least fanfic writers evolve.
48:53 I agree a 100% I have never heard such a pretentious thread in my life...
Teaching moment or not the fact that you made your child wait over 6 hours after they had already come to you and told you they were hungry it is just cruel in itself in my opinion
The idea that you could use the word superfluous to your 9-year-old and yet you did not teach them how to use a can opener shows a failure on your end as a parent
And the poor kid was like my brain is fuzzy yeah because her sugar is low feed her
I could’ve gone without hearing this too ruined the episode for me
Calling himself “apocalypse dad”

Here Are Some Creepy Pasta Recommendations For Amanda And Shayne:
- The Disappearance of Ashley, Kansas (i HIGHLY recommend this one)
- Pen Pal
- Psychosis
- The Left Right Game
- Tales From the Gas Station (This one is funny yet slightly horrifying at the same time, I also highly recommend it)
i loooove tales from the gas station. i need to relisten to mr. creepypasta's narration of it
Pen Pal and The Left Right Game are both really good.
and Borrasca
@@stanleyhudson5684 this is my favorite creepypasta but it is INTENSE so so good though
I don’t know if its still up on nosleep but The Pancake Family and Autopilot still stuck with me until now
I was excited to have them talk about DHMIS. It's hard to cover because they're videos and they don't do reactions on here, but maybe a live?
Y'all should have an episode explaining to Amanda all the more dark youtube/internet series, like The Backrooms, Don't hug me I'm scared, and all of that
i'm not american and from 2012 until today i thought kony was a presidential candidate that dropped out super early and people found it funny, similar to kanye 2016 but almost half a decade earlier. enlightening.
Yeah same
Kanye ran for president in 2020, not 2016.
I'm also not from the USA and i thought based on the time they mentioned him on beopardy that he was like a famous youtuber doing a charity campaign
This video made me realize I’m not as chronically online as I thought. I didn’t know more of theses than I thought I would😅
Same here so I can't blame Amanda too much
I didn't know most of these either lol
They picked a lot of older stuff since Shayne probably chose the topics and he's 31
Meanwhile I'm in the crowd where I knew these (peripherally) despite being too young to understand the whole context. ;_;
As a Greek it's always insane when non-Greeks mention my country. Glad you had a good time!
I never read the bean dad thread and I agree with Amanda - I did not need to know any of this. That was INFURIATING
This needs to be a series. I want more of this.
turning amanda into a chronically ONLINE queen was not on my 2024 bingo card
She'll get there one day hehe
Ok mfer what WAS on your 2024 bingo card? Let’s see it! Put em up!
Maybe Online historian
Finally, someone explained Kony 2012 in full. Like, I got that it was a doc and all, but I never got why it was such a meme… but goddamn, I see why now 😂
There was an Internet Historian video on it a while back. There are a lot of videos on it, but that's the one that I've watched. It was cool seeing them cover it here after all this time.
@@XanderPGKmaybe Shayne and Trevor aren’t up to date on things but it seems like they mischaracterized a lot of information about where the money went (various charities in Uganda) and that Russell had a serious mental breakdown and wasn’t jacking off.
Yeah, same. I only knew about it in passing and never bothered looking into it.
@BostonMBrand Yeah. I've heard a little bit about that, definitely the fact that Russell wasn't wacking it and arrested.
@@BostonMBrandyeah that bothered me too. It's such a common bit of misinformation that keeps being spread around :/
I genuinely need an hour long stream that is just everyone on the cast watching the dhmis videos. Especially since Trevor and Shayne didn’t even mention the new tv series and it’s amazing. It’s so good, I even recommend it for people who haven’t watched the original videos because of how they perfected the original ideas from the RUclips series.
42:13
fun fact, Bean Dad is none other than John Roderick, of John Roderick and the Long Winters, who notably performed the song "(It's a) Departure," which was used for a long time as the theme song for My Brother, My Brother, and Me
okay the lists that Shayne and Trevor had prepared made me think of these off the top of my head: Vine compilations, lonelygirl15, cicada 3301, web driver torso, llamas with hats, the 9/11 to Ellen downfall pipeline, the backrooms/liminal space- and Trevor should definitely explain loss, because I even forgot that one until he said it
As a greek 🇬🇷 fan I love hearing Amanda's experience in Naxos!! Also I'd like to point to point out that, yes the greek gods mythology etc is mainly for the tourists
@@sophiasotiriou yeah exactly what i thought, greek mythology isn't actually so big between greek people (unfortunately)
@cabin_8 we mostly learn about it in elementary school so I guess it doesn't spark that much of an interest to most people but it truly is fascinating! Also I love Shayne's enthusiasm on it lol
@@sophiasotiriou yes!! i love greek mythology and i'm glad the rest of the world appreciates it but i wish it wasn't so underrated here.. and same! i love it when he talks about Madeline Miller lmao

Ive never heard that "touristy" dinner places in greece dont cook their fish well. Or does she have a point with that?
Moo Deng is in a preservation zoo and as far as I can tell is very happy!

the thing about bean dad is, one of his songs was the theme song of My Brother, My Brother And Me, a veeeeery popular comedy advice podcast, he played it at their live shows many times, and they stopped working with him over the offensive tweets that surfaced after the bean dad saga.
he truly ruined his entire career over that can of beans that might not even have been a real story.
I legit didn't get why he got canceled so hard but I also admit to not being that fond of most kids. I just remember thinking, Yeah, a nine year old should be able to figure out how a can opener works
He also has co-hosted a podcast for a bit with Ken Jennings, the current host of Jeopardy! My dad listens to it, so I was surprised to hear his name on this show.
@@KillerKitty317 I believe it was less about the beans, more about the offensive tweets.
I really wish that had brought that part of bean dad up. It adds more context, mbmbam fans went (rightfully) after him.
@NekolatheDruid yeah, I heard about it as a fan of the mcelroys and when I looked into it i didn't find anything about it other than the bean dad stuff. This is the first i've heard about offensive tweets besides that saga
I relate so hard to Amanda at 54:05. There are so many things I didn’t learn because pretentious men talked down to me thinking that was how to teach. I still refuse to touch chess because of my college boyfriend.
Trevor is really find his place and he’s growing on me very quickly. Happy for him and love seeing him in videos. 31:35 KILLLLLLED me
Amanda honestly seems like such a fun person to hang with, such an interesting personality!!
How Trevor brings up Salad Fingers, Charlie the Unicorn and Happy Tree Friends, but leaves out Llamas with Hats. A travesty... Trevorsty!

I, too, did not know about Kony 2012, but that whole "South Park" song about "jacking it in San Diego" makes SO MUCH SENSE, now. 😅😂
The only thing that they mentioned that I'm just shocked about is Kony. It was everywhere in 2012. From stopping the warlord to questions about what was the money actually going to do. It was a huge event
@@psicoparkita I'm honestly just a chronically offline person, and always have been. I've got no social media, and I really only use the internet to look things up or watch various things / listen to music on RUclips. 😅
ETA: I used to have socials, but over time, I just found myself hating them or having them and never using them.
@eva.valo.00 that's the thing tho, I learned about Kony without social media. It was everywhere. As Trevor said, he learned about at school. It was actual news, not just social media.
That song was playing in my head the entire time they were talking about Kony 2012 😭😭😭

*charging it inside a microwave
* how they didn't really remove the 3.5" jack so you need to drill into the case
*that it is now waterproof
*how the phone was meant to bent 90 degrees (Bend it like Beckham)
This is going to truly be a great series of episodes they do. The showing of internet culture through the years. Kony 2012 for me was nuts. I was still very much a 4chan user and it was all over the place. It brought back some crazy memories of me and my friends being online and seeing it happen.
