“WHATEVER WINDS YOUR SKEIN!!” 😂 BRILLIANT 👏
Right? 😁
I love it! I'm going to steal it. 😂
Love this response! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Exactly!
Love it !!! Think u done coined a new catch phrase for all yarney's ;) Good goin ;)
Using cakes is also an easy way to get yarns that are already selected to look good together instead of trying to search and search for colors that go well together.
Thank you Crystal for explaining the process with changing colors and not changing the integrity of the yarn😊🧶
I love how you say that everyone likes what they like and can express themselves as they wish! We need more of this these days! Our differences make us unique and I appreciate that uniqueness in everyone! "Whatever winds your skein! " 🥰😘🥳🤣
It’s my 1st time running across you. I don’t even know your name right now, but I have to tell you how refreshing you are. You were sharing about people not being very kind on u tube. I’m Sorry about that, I don’t communicate on u tube. It’s my first time, Just had to let you know. I watch shows on knitting and crocheting. I can’t do either anymore because of neuropathy, but I still enjoy and find it very relaxing to watch. Keep doing what you do, love it. SD
@@christinashum6816 Thank you so much for your kind encouraging words 😍
Awww, all of the shout outs at the beginning of the video! Shout out to Crystal, for amazing RUclips Content! We love you, and your family, Crystal!!! I have always wondered if I was color controlling in the best way, I can't wait to watch!!
They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Thanks Crystal, I really appreciate your expertise.🐕
It's just an added bonus that yarn in cakes is SO EASY to control the color. Can't do that so easily with skeins! Thanks Crystal :)
You're giving me a new appreciation for color control. I agree its not a waste of a self striping yarn because for me the benefit of the self striping yarn would be having someone else choose the colors that will look pretty together. That is constantly my challenge when wanting a multi-colored project, deciding which colors go well together. Often I would never imagine a combination of colors combined in a Mandela, but they end up looking gorgeous together.
_"Whatever winds your skein."_
Oh, I have to remember that one! 😂
I agree the baby blanket made with self-striping yarn looks great ..
"It doesn't mean I'm wrong, it doesn't mean you're wrong, it just means we like different things."
Words to live by!
It amazes me that anyone cares what others do with their own darn yarn.
Thank you thank you. I haven’t been crocheting very long and the striping yarn was very confusing. I didn’t like the breaks when you don’t color control. Now I know how to color control so my rows are even. I have to keep looking through your tutorials and I will probably find every answer to every question I have. Thank you Crystal. I so appreciate your expertise and support.
Mother lesson learned. Didn’t know anything about color control. You are teaching, good info that is not taught in learning crochet. Mind blowing. 💥💥💥💥
I am a knitter and I have learnt to crochet from you. thank you so much for all your videos 💖💖💖
Hi Crystal, I like color control. Just wanted to say how cool it is to see you in your original yarn room with Freddy in the background.
I’m sorry ones is mean to you. Just remember a comment from this 80 year, this world is different than it used to be, But we all seem to learn as we go; so please don’t let anyone kill your joy. You are a very nice person; please keep up your very good job. Love and Best to you.
I like color control as well. It brothers me with those obvious breaks🥰
Sometimes the colors you want, only come in the cakes. I had that problem when I made a blanket for my Daughter. The boarder ended up a darker color than one in the cake, because I wasn't buying enough cakes to finish with the same color. However, the darker color I used made the original cake colors POP.
Thank you for sharing 2 different ways to color control. Color control is another way to be creative. 😊
I am glad to know I am not the only one who hates when my stripes aren’t even!
It was so nice watching this being that it's 2 years ago. You're awesome
Love your saying "whatever winds your skein " lmbo
🥰🧶🦙🐐🐫🐑🧶🥰
Very educational and nice to watch. I really likes how she explains the differences and how to color control. Also I agree, color controlling gives a very neat look to the project.
Thank you! I didn't even know this was a possibility - ha! I also love the look of consistency so this is very exciting to learn!
I usually can't find solid skeins that coordinate as well as the ones in a cake. I've hacked up many cakes to get the color scheme I want because I know the colors are designed to work together.
I am a knitter. Always like to learn. Love this video on Color control
This will encourage me to bring out the striped yarns I have been avoiding...so thanks one more time!
I’m a knitter, I enjoy all your videos. I think you are a great teacher! By the way I am getting all your notifications now. I ❤️ “ whatever winds your skein” 😂
Thanks ☺
If they didn't want you to color control, why would the striped colors be so long? I love color controlling ♡ I'm just laughing inside, proud and happy that I color control like you Crystal! We have something in common !!!
I just want to thank you Crystal for your tutorials. It has been extremely helpful to have a knowledgeable crocheter that is willing to teach others. It has meant so much to me. I haven't the female family or male for that matter, as my Granddad Tatted, left alive to ask questions too and most of my friends do not crochet. You have a wonderful personality and I have been so thrilled to find you. Also your family is a joy to watch on your blogs. I have wondered for so long how others were able to make the patterns turn out with even colors. I hated that it would have a few stitches into the next row. So this has been so helpful. I didnt know that the cakes came apart like that either. THANK YOU !!!!!!!
Thank you so much, Crystal! Awesome info! I remember the first time I took a cake apart, I thought the yarn police were going to break down my door 😆 It was for the best, though. I like consistency 😊
Lol.... That cracked me up. Yarn police. I use to think that would happen to me too!!!
thank you so much, Crystal! this is a question i have been wondering FOREVER! all the other youtubers' color controling videos are not very good. this one is perfect! you are the best crochet youtuber EVER! i love all of your videos, i love your style in editing your videos. some youtubers over do their editing and some just don't edit at all. i look forward to your videos every single day! thank you so much for the recent yarn shopping video! it was very good and helpful. thank you so much for all you do! God bless you!
Ya know, discovering our preferences and learning more about how to get consistent results is always valuable. We don't all need to have the same preferences, but any new skill is more than welcome in my book. 😘
I prefer an ombre fade, but that isn't always possible. Sometimes, I like to be 'surprised' - but the changes are too abrupt. Thanks for teaching options, Crystal. That's truly the mark of a good instructor. 😍
I’m amazed those chunks come out separately so easily!
Idea for a lot of small projects: Make new granny squares patterns. Eventually, you can show how to make them into an Afghan, which would result into a large project without using so much of your time at once.
Thanks for the video!
I love that you gave us all a "trigger alert" when you were going to take a apart a cake. Made me LOL as you warned us a few times. Haha
No one freak out!
Always the best content with enthusiasm, education, and humor.
The best channel by far.
Thanks for the video.
I like what winds your skien by the way.😉👍
Crystal you are THE BEST teacher!!! Thank you!
💛🧡💜🧶
"whatever winds your skein" haha!! That needs to be on a TShirt!!!
Thank you Littleknits for sponsoring this beautiful give-away. The yarns are gorgeous. And thank you Crystal for sharing the wealth. I love the Cotton Fleece from Brown Sheep; I have a lovely green of that yarn. I have read the rules and abide by them.😇 Blessings, Maureen Reilly.
Awesome explanation Crystal!👍 I'm lazy & don't like ends, so that influences my choice greatly about whether to colour control or NOT!!😂🤣 Blessings from South Australia💕🐨
I thought color control was much more difficult. I didn’t like how the colors would change in the middle of a row. Thank you Crystal for showing how simple this method is. Barbara
I color control; it is necessary at times! It just looks better. I agree!
I looked specifically for this video when you mentioned you did a video on this. I love your color controlled shawls! Thank you Crystal!!
Thank you! You have a great way of explaining with such a simple but thorough explanation of when to and when not to and how to.....ahhhh! I learned so much in such a short time! Thanks again Crystal!
I’m a “color control” freak, too 🤣
I love separating colors of mandala yarns for weaving scarves on my rigid heddle loom, as well as crocheting.
Great lesson on many levels: a reminder to celebrate the differences!
I think too often we get caught up in thinking our yarn needs to be one continuous line. When in reality we have the knowledge and experience to make a bunch of little pieces come into a nice piece of artwork!!!! Thank you for sharing your way and thoughts ❤️
Thank u Crystal, I would of never pulled apart a cake . Now I have learned to color control and it’s ok to do that. I thought the maker of the wool world not appreciate u doing that to their product but now I know I can do this!!!
I am a solid type of girl. I rarely will buy cakes because of the different colors because I usually do not like all the colors together because of how it breaks or even one of the colors that are in the cake. Now it gives me an option of buying the cakes and just using the colors that I like especially when they do not have the same colors in a solid skein. Thank you Crystal!
I color control projects all the time! Thank you for all the time you put into your videos, I really appreciate it 🥰
Not just a pleasant tutor, but a very wise one too. Thank you for the thorough explanations!
Thank you for explaining so thoroughly what color control is and how to do it.
I was literally just thinking about this when your video popped up. Perfect timing. Thanks Crystal. Now i won't be intimidated by the cakes anymore.
Whatever winds your skein! LOL like that ☮️💕👍
Crystal, I'm color controlling the yarn for my project for your contest. Whoo hoo this is fun! Thanks for the tips!
Thank you Crystal for explaining the 2 ways of colorcontroling
i feel like im sitting with a friend when you post a new video
Great video Crystal. I just told my cousin about your channel. I told her you are the best. I’ve met people and when we talk crochet your name always comes up. It’s awesome that I’ve met people that also sing your praises.🤗🎉 In the year that I’ve been subscribed to your channel I’ve learned so much and have made so many of your projects for gifts. Everyone loves them. Now I’m doing your household items. I’m in the world of cotton now. Thank you.💓
Thank you so much for yet another subject i didn’t know squat about! Once you had shown what to do, i dope slapped my forehead! Its so simple and yet it was a total mystery! Lol This is my “you learn something everyday” thing for today. Thanks again!
This was by far the most interesting video on color control
I totally understand how & why you do color control. And you are right! Sometimes the color changes aren't that different but sometimes they are! Guess alot of it depends also on what you are making! It reminds me of little ones who are learning to color. 2 of them might be coloring the same pictures. Say the pic is a kid on the beach. The kid in the picture is dressed in shorts & a t-shirt. One might color the shorts one color. The other one uses 4 colors to color the shorts. It's the same concept. Great explanation Crystal! Thank you for doing this video! 😍💕
Thank you Crystal. Apparently I've been color controlling certain yarns/patterns for years. Lol I LOVE that scarf & he shawl/poncho is beautiful! 💕
I also like consistency - nothing I hate more is colours changing in the middle of the row !! thank you for the very informative tutorial !!
I am amazed at how easy you removed the color sections in the cakes! I have avoided skeins with multiple colors because I am like you in that I do not like breaks within my rows. Thanks for breaking it down for me!
Thank you for explaining that. Sometimes it is nice to color control a project and other times it is okay not too. Either way it will still be beautiful. I enjoyed learning how to control.
Thanks for this info on color control. 💖 I like the way it looks! If ONLY I liked to hide my yarn ends .... 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for your information on color control. Very helpful.
Thank you for sharing this. Interesting. I like both ways. Your a great teacher. I'll never understand why some keep giving you thumbs down. They must have hit it by mistake. Love your videos !!!
I totally agree with you there Crystal. I don't like to see colour change throughout the next rows I like to see full rows of colour. x 👏❤️
I agree some colors need to be color controlled but that blanket the colors look fine not controlling the colors they blend better and that scarf is awesome love the colors
Thank you for explaining it. I do agree that the blanket didn't need it. It looks Beautiful the way it is.
Cakes are great because you already know the colors go together, whether you color control or not. I haven't really done this yet, but I will soon!
Thank you again Crystal for another great video. I too like color control, but I can’t imagine anyone trying it with a variegated yarn,...my word! To me it would rate right up there with making a five colored granny square and then make about one hundred and fifty of them and sewing in all of those ends. Props to everyone that make them. Thanks again! 👁❤️🧶
Thank you for sharing two ways to color control!
I’m with you on separating the colors. I have avoided using the cakes because I didn’t like the random color changes. I ended buying some Hobby Lobby cakes thinking that I would just separate the colors but I ended up using them on your hanging dish towel straight off the cake and they turned out gorgeous so I guess they do have their place! 😂😂😂
I’m just watching this now. This is exactly what I did with my new anniversary cakes for a blanket.
This was so interesting. I took a six year break from crocheting and yarns changed! Thanks for this.
I was shook when you just popped the color out from the middle 😱
I've had cakes like this and I just wound them by hand to separate each color
It was so easy this whole time
Thank you 😊
I've been watching you for years, I never knew color control was possible. THANK YOUUUUUU!! Love you. BTW, I comment a lot so sorry, dont mean to bother you
Your blue newsboy hat is beautiful
I was one of the ones that asked what is color control so thank you so very much for teaching this. I just hate when you have to justify why you do or dont like something; or why you prefer to do things a certain way. It really makes me cringe. Anyway, thank you so much again Crystal!!!
I like how you Color control I think it looks better and sometimes you can’t buy the colors that come in the cakes in solid colors so you have to buy the cakes I say don’t worry about what other people think I think a lot of people like your Color control and I know you like it and I like it so it doesn’t matter what other people think all that matters is that you like it😃 I love your RUclips videos and look forward to them thank you 😍
Omg! I'm laughing at myself. I started from the outside winding it into balls. Your way is way easier! Thank you for teaching us. Wow! Just pull it out from center! Wow!🤣 I wish I found your video sooner. Oh well I had fun winding it up.
I have done this in the past but never realized that I was color controlling. I've heard the term referenced before with an air of mystery. 🤣🤣🤣 How simple it is! Thank you Crystal.
I never knew what color control meant until this video. Thank you for going over it. I completely understand how to do this.
Ug, I wish I knew this before i start my mans cardi 😒 but next time it will all be amazing thank you for teaching this, and the mans cardi pattern. You are a gem!!!
I did not even know this was a thing. Omg if I had found your videos a couple of months ago my cardigan could have been down this way. Thank you for the tip
Ty for this video. I was wondering if u have a video specifically for hiding ends , I would really love to see how u do it, especially for color control projects. Ty so much 💕💕💕
Love explaining the color control iam like you love mandala yarn
Don't forget us loomers that watch you also! ❤
No yarn police! Do what you want as long as you like it🥰
I usually only try to color-control when joining a new skein/ball of a self-striping yarn. So if the first skein ends at a certain point in a color sequence, I try to start the next skein at the same point or the very next color in the sequence (and will check each skein - at both ends - for the best match, if I have multiple skeins of the same colorway to choose from).
I do this as well.
Thanks. It is great when you are told when a pattern is color controlled. I followed a pattern for a baby blanket with Super Saver Stripes. She color controlled but didn’t say that was what was done and I wondered why my blanket had a different look. It looked completely different. I hadn’t heard this concept of color control before. So I really think this tutorial is great. Perfect tutorial. Thanks Crystal
Talk about timing! I bought a skein of Hobby Lobby's Yarn Bee Sugarwheel licorice jellybean to make a hat for my Granddaughter Mia. She loves colors that are ombre. Looking at the skein and staring the hat, I was afraid the color gradation wasn't fast enough. I started pulling it apart in Hope's that I could get the color changes I want. Your video was in my messages and I have to tell you, you have given me the courage I need to cut my sections out!! Thank You for this Video!!
Another great instructional video. What I’m taking away from this one is this: When the color changes are very subtle and basically the same color scheme it’s not really necessary to color control, but when they are a lot different color control looks better. Thx Crystal
I love the way you do it. If I cut them out, it would be a mess. Lol That's a great tip about changing the color order, I hadn't thought of that option! :)
Thank you for sorting out these yarns and color control/ not color control. Not having crocheted for a long time I’ve been struggling to understand what the heck is going on with yarn colors!
I like that the cakes use complementary colors and I sometimes color control like you do and sometimes separate the colors and change the order of appearance. thanks for the video. love your thoroughness and care.
Sometimes it's more economical to buy the cake with all of the colors than buy 5 skines. Then you can still control the order of colors as Crystal showed. Your always the creater and on control of your projects. Learning that you have options is awesome 😊.
This isn't something I had ever considered. Thank you for sharing! I really appreciated your message near the end that everyone is creative in their own way. Very nice. :)
If projects were all same size & stitches color control wouldn't be needed. Which is why color control is used 👍 thanks Crystal your channel is great!
