Passable but Jim Kerr's vocals don't really suit the song. This is too smooth and earnest, lacks the ramshackle charm of the original and I say this as a huge SM fan.

I try hard not to comment on Jims covers but he is a unique singer who belts out his own anthems. There is not one cover song I like, its just not his style. White Wedding is passable but still not near the original. His RUclips version with wee Jimmy Johnston is a far better "ramshackle" effort. To Jims credit, no one can cover him.

It's probably true that no one can cover him...never really thought about it like that. I find his covers hard to digest though. It's like an acquired taste. It takes a while to develop an appreciation for most of his covers. But when you do you just do.

Making cover versions is fun, and of course this is the group's choice and all, but from a personal (fan) point of listening, this is below mediocre. Sorry Simple Minds...
I know it's annoying to constantly pull back pointing out how good and innovative you remain with your earlier repertoire - writing great instrumentals on one side, and on the other making cover versions that are, at best, this ordinary. Good luck with your new album though.
