My partner and I went to the cinema in 1997 intending to see "Batman and Robin" but the queue was way too long so we saw this instead. Definite win! This movie is so fun and imaginative.
God, I remember going to the cinema and had to get there early in order to get tickets and cross fingers that you got seats together... :) Then when you got the setts you had an hour to kill before the movie started and then you walked a block away to but the candy from a place that had normal prices compared to the cinema. Note: Sweden have changed rules so that you aren't allowed to bring your own candy into the movies (you can still smuggle some in (not that I ever have though😂))
I think the most amazing thing is that this film, Chris Tucker, Milla Jovovich, and director Luc Besson were all nominated for both best and worst film, supporting actor, supporting actress and director respectively across many awards (along with many other "best" awards)! There was a real love-hate relationship with critics at the time of its release. An iconic film as far as I'm concerned with so much fun, and personality packed into its run time!

I got the first "like!" This is one of my favorite movies. The costumes were designed by Jean Paul Gaultier. Gary Oldman is my favorite bag guy. Also, Priest Vitto Cornileous is the same actor that plays Bilbo in Lord of The Rings.
The reason why he didn't move in the beginning on the ship was because is being controlled by the entity. That's why he had that brownish liquid (blood), or whatever you want to call it, leaking from his head.

My Dad, brother and I did so on that cold evening in 1997 and were thoroughly entertained - we had a great time with this, as did the audience we saw it with. When people say "they don't make movies like that anymore", I think this example fits. All it wants to do is entertain, and it does so in spades. Still does! So much fun. Glad you got on board with it!
I love Bruce willis. If I had to pick only movies from one actor that I could ever watch, it might be Bruce willis. He has a lot of good stuff. More than pretty much anyone I can think of.
So cool for you to react to this, The Fifth Element is my favourite! I also recommend you watch Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. That too is directed by Luc Besson and thought of as a modern spiritual successor to The Fifth Element, similar wacky style and a lot of fun.
Prince was actually asked to play the role Chris Tucker plays but due to scheduling issues he was unable to take the role so Chris Tucker acted like Prince instead. He got so much flack from the African American community for his role in this movie it was crazy. The director luc beeson was married to the alien opera diva at the time but by the time the movie premiered they were getting divorced as Mila Jovovich, lilou was pregnant with his child it was a huge scandal at the time.
I have an actual multi pass!! This should have been nominated for costume design and Best Supporting Actor, Chris Tucker. The wanted the Diva to sing a song that other-worldly, so the composer wrote her song in such a high pitch that no human could sing it. The singer they hired surprised them and could sing most of it. There was only 2 or 3 times where they had to digitally apply some notes, but otherwise, it was all her.
